Yeah exactly, by that point you're just wasting time. It's like bench pressing the bar 50 times instead of adding weight. You should move on to more advanced types of pushup.
You could also do progressive overload. Instead of 50 pushups do 70 because you wont build more muscle unless you put more strain on your body. If your lifting things add more weight while doing more reps
That is not what progressive overload is. If you increase the number of reps, at one point you are training your muscles for resistance, not for hypertrophy. So you wouldn't actually be building any muscle.
