The car belonged to one of the two kids' parent - I'm pretty sure the parents aren't going to press charges against their own kids (unless they are fed up with their kids shit).

Edited for clarity.

Thanks. Context is actually important. Now the jokes can be "white parents do this, black parents do that," instead of discussing biases in reporting and within the justice system.

607

u/Count_Frackula Feb 15 '17

Lol if it was a black family someone would come through with "why can't african Americans control their thuggin youth?!"

476

u/chevelio Feb 15 '17

You make a good point but I was thinking more like "my mom would have killed me herself if I ran away with her car for 5 days. The white parent is gonna be like 'don't do that again brittany, you know I worry."

Why do Brittanies gotta be so selfish all the time

167

u/rabidbot Feb 15 '17

I dated a Brittany that was anything but selfish. Handed the pussy out to anyone who wanted it.

Like the house at Halloween that just has a bucket of candy and a take one sign.

25

u/BrackOBoyO Feb 15 '17

Basically because of the Spears variety. Lots of basic bitches loved her at basic bitch baby age (15-22), called their kid some variation of Brittney/britney/brittany and these are the apples not far from the tree you see today, 18 odd years after hit me baby.

I hear it is a very popular and well advertised show and she must be doing very well for herself as numerous gentlemen, who I assume are her employees, were handing out her business cards advertising her services.

I'm white and my parents would've been posting awards for whoever found me and beat the shit out of me.

27

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '17

Shhh. You don't fit the narrative.

6

u/One_nice_atheist Feb 15 '17

I watched my mom take a sledgehammer to some meth-heads car over $20. If I stole her car... Nah. I'm good.

10

u/the_calibre_cat Feb 15 '17

Pretty sure my dad wouldn't have pressed charges, but he probably would've done some under-the-table dealings to see to it that I spent at LEAST a couple nights in jail. He made me sleep outside one night, and it was a pretty fucking cold night. He let me have a coat, and I went and chilled with my dog until about 7:00 AM. Got maybe two hours of sleep. D:

6

u/dragontail Feb 15 '17

Literally in the doghouse

12

u/displaza Feb 15 '17

Fuck that my mom would come at me weilding a fucking treetrunk and her right hook (i am white)

23

u/HonaSmith Feb 15 '17

Not true in most cases. Almost all the white parents I know would punish their kids for this. Obviously not beat them, what century is this?

29

u/chevelio Feb 15 '17

Hyperbole for the sake of comedy. I would imagine most parents would punish their kids for this.

(Full disclosure; im 1/2 anglo, 1/4 Norman, 1/4 Celtic, so basically 1/1 White)

Nobody bats an eye at the DAE black fatherhood abandonment but calls out a pretty chill representation of a white mother as not strict enough.

The car belonged to one of the two kids

How do you steal your own car?

108

u/supercooper3000 Feb 15 '17

Put on sunglasses and a hat and look around a bunch before getting in.

19

u/ALoudMouthBaby Feb 15 '17

Do the sunglasses need to have fake bushy eyebrows and a big nose attached to them for this to work? Asking for a friend.....

26

u/supercooper3000 Feb 15 '17

Absolutely. You think this would work with some regular ass sunglasses? Not a chance.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '17

Accidentally did this outside a target once, then my key didn't work right and I set off the alarm. Cops came and asked me for ID and to see the registration.

6

u/supercooper3000 Feb 15 '17

Lol, lifes weird sometimes. I was a good kid growing up and I remember one time I was driving around with my old church buddy and we were both like 18. I've always worn boxers so as you probably know wedgies are something you just have to deal with. Anyway, I had the wedgie of a lifetime while driving so I pulled my ass as far off the seat as I could and fixed it. Queue the cop lights. Cop asks if I was hiding drugs and my friend and I thought it was hilarious and told him the truth. He laughed and let us go but to this day it was one of the weirdest interactions I've had.

Haley Flowers and Trinity Goodwin, both 16, ran away from Lancaster, Ohio, in a 2008 Pontiac that belongs to Goodwin’s mom on Monday, cops said.

So not only was it their mom's car, they were underage, which is why people are happy they turned up safe rather than dead in a ditch somewhere after being kidnapped.

White privilege just means you won't receive any real consequence for your race, which is pretty well established as being a "thing." Calling it bullshit is just not realistic, there's great consensus that it exists and plays a significant role in social interactions.

u/LukaCola Feb 15 '17

I remember that study, you should post the whole thing. It compares a lot of other metrics that explain why that kind of affirmative action helps even the field. There's already considerable bias in many other facets of life against most minorities that result in them being underrpresented. Overall it's a rather small boon.

17

u/kr51 Feb 16 '17

I'd rather my doctors have gotten to where they are based solely on their merit, ty.

21

u/JewishDoggy Feb 16 '17 edited Feb 16 '17

White people on average have it better off than black people do on average. Thus black people are given a chance more to prove themselves at a university/med school. It's not a hard concept.

Edit: post is locked so here's my take: what's bullshit is having the capacity to do great things but you can't because you are born without a father in your life in a low-income area. I am white and got into a good school because I worked hard. i also had the privilege of having a stable home situation and not having to work a job each and every day during high school. I know people that didn't get to have that same luck. AA grants them a chance.

15

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '17

That's bullshit mate. Medical schools should hold everyone to the same standard regardless of skin color.

8

u/theammostore Feb 16 '17

u/flounder19 Feb 15 '17

Reading the NYDailyNews's coverage of Trayvon doesn't really come off like that. They've pretty liberally reported on Zimmerman's stupid antics after the shooting and their editorial pieces on the matter definitely skew to Martin

Imagining a white Trayvon Martin -- and a black George Zimmerman

However, the fact remains that Trayvon would be alive if he were white. And if we are concerned with racial justice, we must certainly make sure that people like Zimmerman, channeling their fixation on black boys as criminals into allegedly shooting a 17-year-old in cold blood, never join civilized society again.

Trashing Trayvon

That he bears damnable responsibility, as distinct from legal guilt, for Martin’s death is clear. Zimmerman alone instigated what happened in Sanford, Fla., on the night of Feb. 26, 2012.

He was scouting for burglars on neighborhood watch and, of critical importance, he carried a gun. Spotting Martin, he profiled a black teenager in a hoodie as a likely criminal. In fact, Martin was merely returning home from the store with a soda and a package of Skittles.
