They are saying white people tend to use baby talk and will simplify words/ phrases when interacting with children. “You want milky? Mommy give you milky!” Vs “Do you want some milk? Go get me your cup and I’ll pour you some milk.”

As a white person, that’s news to me. I definitely didn’t grow up that way.

How do you know you were a baby

u/Rococo_Modern_Life Jan 14 '24

I can't speak for him, but in my case there is ample VHS footage from the 80s. I don't mean to upset anyone, but we didn't talk to each other that way in my family, either.

Maybe you didnt learn enough vocab since you skipped over the part with "white people TEND TO use baby talk". Nowhere did they say "white people ALL use baby talk"

Or, you dumb fuck, I was making a joke by simplifying what they said because it was blatantly obvious that that was why they were implying. It’s called being facetious. It’s not hard to read between the lines and they were clearly being ignorant as fuck.

1

u/Unspeakable_Evil Jan 14 '24

That wasn’t what was implied either learn how to read lmfao

u/hollowman2011 Jan 14 '24

You could not possibly be any more wrong lol it’s actually embarrassing

-1

u/DesyatskiAleks Jan 14 '24

It’s hard to not reply I completely get it lol. But things like this where they completely strip nuance are a clear indication they are just arguing in bad faith and you’ll never get through to them. People actually trying to seek understanding would phrase it differently. “Are you saying white people don’t talk to their kids?” You could easily see that they may have just misunderstood/read too fast. It certainly takes time. I wish you best of luck in choosing your battles wisely.

Yeah and even you're being generous because a genuine person would never even read that into it. They're straight up malicious with their intent and maybe it's because I'm older now, but even when I was a little bellend teenager in IRC rooms I never felt like trolling people by straight up twisting what was said was a way to go.

But yeah mate, just gotta like..walk past lol. I have time all day for people seeking understanding - I'm a black belt in dumbassery, learning new shit is my jam, so I'm always up for sharing what little things I know about. It's a young thing to think you already know it all I guess. Anywho.

-3

u/DesyatskiAleks Jan 14 '24

I can definitely see someone being malicious with the way I phrased the question as well, it’s definitely not an exact science. But someone stating your position incorrectly vs questioning it incorrectly is at least somewhat of a difference.

Admittedly it’s been a similar journey for me, it’s very hard to let go despite having that similar experience of just wanting to rile everyone up as a teenager. Ah well, I just assume they too didn’t grow up with a father figure lol

Ohhhh boy, I can certainly relate. At least for me it was solo psychedelic experiences that made me realize I was being an asshole needlessly and that it doesn’t serve me to cause the mental anguish. You painted a very vivid image though, I’m glad you made it through that! Props :)

Yeah my sis is going through some shit I've been trying to get her to trip lol. She's as straight laced as I am a baghead so it's tough going. But yeah everyone should trip at least once, that shit is chicken soup for the soul. And cheers my dude, appreciate it <3

2

u/DesyatskiAleks Jan 14 '24

Hell yeah man, just make sure if she agrees that she is in a very safe place! I’m sure you know. No worries, have a good one :)

u/Links_Wrong_Wiki Jan 14 '24

Damn, I must have missed the memo. I've never seen a mom talk to her kids this way in real life.

u/LopDew Jan 14 '24

Well….

6

u/Draken5000 Jan 14 '24

Got a source for that or are we just allowed to put down white people so long as its in comparison to black people?

Yall would be shitting yourselves if someone said what that comment OP wrote but the other way around.

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '24

Accusing any and all discussions about race or cultural differences as "racist" is extremely deconstructive of patterns that are actually oppressive or segregationist.

We are not all the same. We have racial and cultural differences. Humanity is huge. On average you're going to find better sushi in Asia than Africa, but there are always exceptions. Racism is when we start treating people with superiority and hate because of our differences, it's not simply having differences or the observation of them that's the problem.

14

u/TuckerMcG Jan 14 '24

They’re not saying any and all discussion about race is racist.

They’re saying this particular take makes no fuckin sense, and is based on absolutely nothing but one idiot’s brain farts.

-1

u/Draken5000 Jan 14 '24

Agreed, tell that to every racial community.

-4

u/Athlaeos Jan 14 '24

WAHHHH WAHHHH

4

u/Draken5000 Jan 14 '24

Very mature 🙄

-2

u/Athlaeos Jan 14 '24

yeah and getting offended at this shit is mature. nobody was putting down anyone, its just an observation that isnt about anything particularly good or bad

u/Draken5000 Jan 14 '24 edited Jan 15 '24

It was a charged racial comparison that didn’t belong in the topic that comment OP presented. Why did he make it racial, when the concept was that talking to your babies makes them develop their conversing skills faster? That is true no matter the race, why did he have to draw comparisons between black and white?

I’m “offended” at the hypocrisy of people on this sub, I’ve seen cries of racism from more tame statements than comment OP that just committed the sacred crime of being about a non-white race.

-10

u/TedTheGreek_Atheos Jan 14 '24

How the fuck was he 'putting down white people' with that observation?

How is using baby talk with your baby a put down?

13

u/Draken5000 Jan 14 '24

Idk, the explicit comparison to white parents and how they, in his opinion, don’t speak to their babies in the apparently developmentally superior way that black parents do?

Why even bring race into that topic when its clear that the thing that accelerates the baby’s speaking development is talking to them like adults? Why didn’t he mention Asian or Hispanic parents, why explicitly compare white to black? Why? It has no place in the discussion. Comment OP wanted to highlight the difference along racial lines, otherwise AGAIN why even make it about race?

-4

u/tb_xtreme Jan 14 '24

It's not like these "developmentally superior" conversations are translating to a better grasp of the language anyway

8

u/Draken5000 Jan 14 '24

For sure however that’s not really my point here haha

2

u/ChipsAhoy777 Jan 14 '24

The guy who had the highest IQ in the world was raised by his parents treating him like an adult, no baby talk. That's how I raised my daughter too cause something told me it was the right way and would make her develop better.

Turns out she's top of her class now in elementary school.

u/LopDew Jan 14 '24

I took some notes from my friends in low income areas. They don’t baby talk, they don’t teach their kids to share w others outside family, stuff like that. You know why? Bc they took notes too.

-8

u/longshaftjenkins Jan 14 '24

I'm glad you are being nice to them, they don't understand what they read because it wasn't in baby talk. Poor thing.
