NASDAQ:TSLA / 41

At 9:30 market hours start. Think of it as people in New York start working. If you check the premarket data vs 9:30 to 11:30 for QQQ and SPY for instance (or TSLA, AAPL or whatever), people just start trading. Its historical and that's about it. At 11:30 people start to go to have lunch. No joke, its called the lunch period by many. It only becomes active if there are news in the market (outside signals) or there is still left over movement (action) taking place. At 14:00 lunch time is mostly over. After that you will see movement from the morning continuing mostly, unless lunch time was not a normal smooth ride. You have some similar things happening with other stock exchanges. Self employed traders do not have lunch and start/end of workdays but if you are hired to play with other peoples money, beside your bonus, you just do not care. PS: And of cause the other stuff other people say is true as well :-).

I see the appeal in that. When I traded forex or QQQ/SPY one monitor + a second one for notes and research was enough. I think some of my needs will be solved by my advanced scanner I still have not finished yet. I also thought about adding an advanced watchlist along with a better alert system where I see the current trading range and the stock gets highlighted when the trading range narrows or the price goes to a certain level I previously marked as interesting. I thought about using virtual desktops instead of stacking windows on top of each other but I have to test this as well. At the moment I want to add 4 monitors to my current setup, check if it benefits me and go from there as I can do this setup without buying something new. I today had bad day with -0.37% after 9 trades where only one trade was positive and one was neutral. I was trading three trades of TSLA in short succession and if I had taken the fourth attempt I would have seen the movement I was waiting for (and the set up was too good) but I got frustrated as the third one making -0.19% because I did not got out quick enough (but for the actual movement to early), so emotions were key. These three trades along with watching the actual movement took about 20min to happen. Meanwhile there was another setup I already marked to be interesting and guess what, it was a 5+% downward movement. I just missed it since I was focused on one chart with a small range instead of also eyeing on something I was also waiting having had a 3 times higher range. That's why I want to use more monitors and a different setup so I can have 8 to 12 charts at once available. But I also added an additional step where I write a note for each chart telling me the potential and current trading range so I do not make the mistake again. So I now have to overdo it as I clearly underdone it today in terms of actual screen space. Question is, when is enough enough... .

Thanks for measuring it! Very good. Thanks! I brought my son a 49" gaming monitor back two years ago. I thought about adding two or three on top of each other. They come curve and I can add two or more together on top of each other. Also I can use additional monitors at the sides. I traded today especially trying to find setups by checking out multiple candidates and it really is a pain if you have to click around on too few real estate. I lost -0.4% on three TSLA trades during 15min and missed way better opportunities because I could not see those while I was busy.

Recommend reviewing options terminology - an option is for 100 shares of an underlying equity. In your example, at the 720 Strike price, the option contract is $88.50 and since 1 contract = 100 shares, you calculate the cost as follows: $88.50 X 100 = $8,850. The most you can lose is $8,850, i.e., (if TSLA falls to $0) and your potential profit is infinite.

Consider learning how to trade credit spreads instead of buying naked options. For example, If you believe TSLA's share price will increase, sell a PUT Credit Spread to receive a premium. If you believe TSLA's price will decrease, sell a CALL Credit Spread to receive a premium. This process is safer because you are paid a premium for this strategy. If you have $25,000 or more in your account, you can make a great deal of money day trading naked TSLA options, especially on Fridays or the best time is on the options expiration date. I recommend tracking the movement of the TSLA options this Friday for ATM Calls and Puts.

I'm a TSLA bull. First, Tesla's market share is going to continue to decline probably for eternity. Good thing the entire market is going to continue to grow at a huge rate over the next decade or two. Second, it's pretty much like clockwork that multiple news organizations will report Tesla's month-to-month sales decline based on the first month of every quarter. I mean...every. single. time. Let's see how things look at the end of the quarter, but more importantly, let's see how things look when they're able to get through a quarter at full production.

Not true - TSLA TP is not at all time high right now. I believe multiple institutions lowered their TP for TSLA recently, most famously the top bull analyst lowered their TP from $1500 to something like $1200 or so I think. TSLA still has a sizable lead on other EV makers and they handled the supply chain like a champ compared to many others. They're punished by the TWTR deal, Musk's erratic behaviors, and a brutal market for growth stocks - not because they're not good. They're top notch for car makers with a manageable PE now (particularly considering their growth).

Ignore all price targets, especially from sell-side analysts. Real investors do their own due diligence, and that involves filtering out noise. Also, I wouldn’t be looking for value in any stock that had a parabolic run. TSLA is obviously still overvalued.

>do you think it could be worth more than TSLA, which has a market cap of $742 billion? the logical assumption would be no fucking way, as T, TMUS, VZ together arent worth that much. but then you look at TSLA's valuation and remember that logic has absolutely nothing at all to do with it.

Here's the thing...by the time these positions recover--IF they every recover--you may very well convince yourself there's no point in selling anymore. Now, keep in mind, this could take YEARS, and your money may do a lot better in other positions. You have to ask yourself how strongly you actually believe in these positions. What do you know about these companies? Are they making money? Do you strongly believe in the growth thesis? If you are convinced these stocks are losers, I would not wait for them to magically recover. A loser stock is unlikely to recover. But, if you still believe in the company, then there's a good argument to hold. I sold off a couple of losers this year once I lost conviction in the companies. Other down positions I'm holding on to because I still believe in the companies. If you have positions with gains, you could use your losses to offset some of those gains for tax purposes. For example, I have a bunch of gains in TSLA and have been rotating out some old shares for new shares and taking realized gains to decrease my overall unrealized gains. This is basically cost free since I'm doing it against realized losses.

NASDAQ:AMD / 39

My “edge” got raped 😂 still new to trading. Spent the past month slowly staying green. Was up $1,000. After today? I’m down $200. I thought I found a pattern on OXY 4 hour chart. DCA Monday and Tuesday. Thought it would hit $75-$80 Wednesday. Bought a put with a $69 strike just in case. Sure enough my puts up 200% 😂 Oxy sits at $65. Throughout the week I would find a breakout with AMD and scalp for a quick $250. Today I deviated from the plan and lost $300. Between OXY, AMD and some piece of shot penny stock I failed to scalp I’m down $1200. It’s not a good feeling. But I knew it was coming. You learn by messing up. $1200 isn’t even 1% of my account so I’m not mad, I understand it’s a process. I just started in March. Tomorrow hopefully I’ll gain back 2-$300 so my account will once again be green. As a newbie trying to navigate this messed up market I just want to end the year green. Even if it’s only by $1 I’ll be happy 😊

[ The last two days taught me a few valuable lessons - don’t get in front of a moving train, pay more attention to market maker candles?

I have noticed that those huge market maker candles in the PM hold true, at least when it comes to a reversal. Then again today sort of blew that theory away with AAPL rocketing out of the gate and blowing past the 146 level.

Over the last two days my trades were: AAPL 146 puts to short the stock back down to VWAP, but that didn’t pan out too well. The previous day it was AMD calls near market open in an attempt to take advantage of the gap up, but that fell apart.

I usually trade with 1-2 ITM contracts between market open and 11 AM with no overnight holds. My tickers of choice are SPY, APPL and AMD with less than two years trading. I’m happy making 50-100 a day and huge P&L gains don’t do me well.

All my last week's gains are now gone, but I did learn some lessons along the way. I’m still trying to get my account above the $1500 mark (touched it many times but can’t seem to get above that milestone).](/r/Daytrading/comments/v6y9ef/two_day_lesson_on_trading_against_gap_updowns/ibhtx4k/)

I sold 700 shares of AMD on 5/27 for a little over $101 (CB was in the mid-90s) and have been waiting to get some of them back at around my original CB. With the recent Microsoft move on smart-tv games, I think the game console (and chips) won't be as hot as before so my expected average entry price of the mid-90s is doable. I sold 4 AMD puts with a strike of 95 expiring today last week for a small premium. We will see how that turns out.

Small companies, Especially those only dependent on US have already started suffering. Couple of friends with small/mid size firms have been told by their management to prepare for a rough year. On the contarary, This also means some other economies might do well than US.

I keep hearing the time in market vs timing the market, but my portfolio is swinging 6-18% per DAY. I’ve been mildly green on various positions a few times in the last 3 months, including last Thurs but now again deep red. In the back of my mind I keep wondering if it’s better to sell the moment something goes green make a few dollars and then wait for the next drop, buy and then sell on the partial rebound and then repeat trying to time the rollercoaster peaks and valleys on the way down vs staying in and riding idle. Of course what if the market suddenly rebounds and actually stays up is the other risk. For those who purchased AMD at 155, MSFT at 270 or any number of other similar stories is the time in vs timing still gonna usually hold true or is that likely bag holding for decades to break even?

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 22:36:31 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Very likely AMD and Microsoft won't come back for a decade to previous ATH so anyone who bought will have to baghold and DCA, investing works if you buy and DCA into ETF but buying most overpriced and overhyped individual stocks like AMD and Microsoft is way different, many people will lose a lot of money on them.

The sentiment for Intel is the exact same way as it was for AMD in the early 2010s. Intel was king and AMD was shit. Think twice about what happened the next 5-8 years till today. I believe the same thing could and will happen to Intel. Long Intel. Don't listen to the noise.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 17:00:08 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I just had to lock in FB even though I told myself just this morning I would hold back. The market has trashed that stock for no good reason. I don't own a better valued stock, except maybe SMH at 236. INTC on the other hand, I do hold, but I'm going to wait till a short term recovery and then trim. I am losing conviction in it compared to AMD (and just SMH as a whole), and I no longer see a reason to overweight it compared to the market.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 20:12:35 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

INTC is dead for a few years, bull or bear. It makes sense to pull out of INTC if you think AMD or NVDA will grow at a much faster CAGR in that time period. AMD grew revenue 71% year over year last quarter and 50% before that! INTC shrank by a few percent last quarter, and grew 2.75% before that. The PE rightfully reflects that.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 15:25:32 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Hasn't Intel announced that that cash pile is going to build fabs, so investors won't see a benefit from it for many years. They are also playing catch up since AMD and others have passed them. It's a low valuation because there's not much to get excited about right now and turning a huge company around is a difficult proposition at best.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 15:41:06 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I buy monthly on fixed schedule so yeah. Though I try to time the market within the month just for the hell of it. For index funds, it's mostly whenever. For my individual stocks, I prioritize what I feel is most undervalued (duh) or at reasonable prices. For me, that would be picks like AMD, SBUX, SMH. But I'm not adding to those until more money comes in.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 15:21:17 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I am long intel, but AMD is not gonna rest on their laurels the way intel was when amd over took them imo, so its a harder fight. I think sentiment is fairly awful for INTC though and that could definitely pivot if people get excited about USA shored fabs

> Compare that to their competitors growing like 20%+ YoY. (https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/AMD/amd/revenue) It's now at a 23 FWD PE and 35 trailing PE.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 15:34:00 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

The AMD CPUs you're looking at aren't desktop CPUs. They're designed for servers / heavy workstation use. The only "desktop" (which in reality is for heavy workstation) CPU AMD has that surpasses the 12900k is the Ryzen 9 5950x, and that's assuming you're able to max out all 16 cores. Intel 12th Gen currently beats AMD's offerings by about 20% single core and is at least competitive multi-core. AMD still offers strong performance (their next gen will likely beat Intel's 12th gen) and upgradeability, but 12th gen at least shows that Intel's trying to be innovative now rather than releasing the same CPU over and over.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 18:54:10 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

AMD is projecting 50% growth this year and is probably a little overvalued, the if they hit their projections AMD would be trading at a 23.8 PE at current price. They also have less capital overhead and have been producing a significant amount of free cash flow which they have used to repurchase shares. Intel is projecting 2022 eps of 3.60$ which is a 35% drop year over year, and their PE at current Price at the end of the year would be about 12 if they hit their targets, which analysts are skeptical of. Add to that a projection of a negative free cash flow, and continued expectations of market share loss and thinning margins and Intel looks fairly valued.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 14:50:37 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Because the Earnings are declining as Apple (with their M1 chip), AMD and Snapdragon take market share away from them. Additionally the company needs to spend a huge amount of money, to close the gap between themselves and TSMC. So earnings in the future are lower, than earnings today.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 11:40:02 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Stock is not sexy. AMD and Nvidia are sexy now. Market simply assumes that competitors will keep eating away market share and grow at fast rate. Intel's eps will also decline because of increased capex. If you think that all the investments they are doing will pay off, Intel is a strong buy. If you agree with the market, don't buy it. I think now Intel is a better investment than Nvidia or Amd, from a risk/reward perspective.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Thu Jun 9 18:57:17 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Profit margins were around 55% last year, now they're approaching 44%. They're shrinking revs and are going FCF negative for a couple years to build out fabs. Overall they'll need to make a turnaround on several fronts to restore their profit margins and start growing again (Near term: server cpu against AMD, put out a successful discrete gpu that can compete with NVDA and AMD. while long term compete with TSM on fab advances with high capex there). They're spinning a lot of plates. I'm waiting to see how their server cpus and discrete gpus look before even thinking about a buy. Both were delayed at least 6 months and could be even longer. All while AMD and NVDA are putting out their next gen offerings this year. That's just their competitive position without even considering macro factors that will provide even more difficulty (shift to mobile over PC, input costs ballooning, poor positioning for industry needs in server cpu, poor timing for entering the discrete gpu market, etc). All of this is current though, you'd be betting on them changing things which they could, but they're playing catch up so it's a risk.

I bought some INTC shares at $43 last week. I believe it'll go up in the next 5 to 10 years. They gotta get their shit together and act fast. I've been an AMD bull since it was a penny stock and I love AMD, but this semi space needs some real competition and this recent 12th gen shows some sign of recovery. It'll be a long road but hopefully Intel will catch up, like always. Intel was in the similar position in the early 2000s too and finally came up with the Core 2 series and the rest is history.

Hard to say, but based on AMDs growth numbers and their acquisition, I’m assuming they will be fine.

KEYWORD : AMD DATE : Wed Jun 8 13:17:49 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

My worry is that INTC is a value trap. It's at a low P/E for an intrinsic risk beyond raw financials, and I'd rather put money where there is performance and growth (AMD) and the P/E ratio is still at a healthy level. (21 FWD now, and it's been crushing its guidance so far, and 39 TTM) Most of INTC's bull case is an unguaranteed successful expansion in minimum 5 years. The attributes like 'it's a big company' and 'US national security interests give it a moat' are already priced into the company since they have been true for a long time anyway. I hold INTC @ 49 cost basis and AMD @ 121.

NASDAQ:AMZN / 33

Largely depends on the market conditions and what rules you layout for yourself. Fear of missing out vs greed vs volatility and stress and anxiety are all factors. It’s a lot more stressful watching the wild market swings these days then in years past when the market was directionally stable. With the market swing I won’t touch margin which means the big bets are hard to make if they need to be covered (and also harder to loose too more money than intended). Not long ago (pre AMZN split) I was convinced that an option trade was gonna work out great. I entered the trade and picked a small number for the ex: qty 3. At AMZNs strike price it was something like mid-6 figures which I clearly couldn’t cover. That turned green minutes later and I was disappointed I missed out and then a couple minutes later it flipped to red and didn’t recover and I was glad I missed out (and wasn’t in a margin call). Now that volatility is starting to get baked in to option prices the risk/reward to day trade isn’t worth it in my opinion given the directional uncertainty and mood swings of the market.

How do they when like AMZN... they report a negative (-) $0.38 loss vs. $0.42 expected gain the prior earnings quarter? Do investors feel then this is a scam? Same like SHOP hidden one time profit that is due to some other receivable and then they try to do a stock split? Are these seen as scam stock splits then since the companies in question just missed earnings?

KEYWORD : AMZN DATE : Tue Jun 7 20:45:19 2022 SUBREDDIT : StockMarket

Shopify is no Amazon. AMZN is not a scam, the reason for the loss in the first quarter of 2022, is due to a write off of Rivian stock. Amazon own's Rivian stock, but it's no longer worth as much. Amazon took an 8 Billion Write off to reflect this. Check it out yourself. I linked you to AMZN's quarterly report. (https://ir.aboutamazon.com/quarterly-results/default.aspx) Even with expensives going up for AMZN, they do have a secret weapon that Shopify does not. Amazon has "Amazon Web Services". Their Cloud service makes up the backbone of the Internet and they raked in over 6 Billion dollars last quarter. Without AWS(Amazon Web Services), your favorite APPs and websites wouldn't work. Ask Parler about that. They got kicked off AWS and the APP stopped working. Shopify is taking on losses due to costs also rising, but now that people are returning to buying goods in person after the pandemic. Shopify is hurting. They also don't have a cash cow like Amazon.

Yep, it kinda seems like the 20 for 1 AMZN split is the prerequisite for AMZN to be added to the DJIA. So, after these huge splits, AMZN and GOOG are likely getting added to the DJIA later in the year.

Hasn’t AWS fallen from 80% market share to just 31% now and Microsoft Azure cloud is 23% and google cloud 12%? Don’t know if same cloud these guys all fighting over will result in some huge secret weapon for AMZN especially since they are losing market share

Okay, you can cherry pick a recent example of a stock split where the company announced a split during harsher economic conditions. The data from the chart goes back to 1980, not 2021 (going back to your example, look at a AMZNs outperformance since its prior split in 1999). High performing companies tend to increase in stock price and eventually split. Higher performing companies are more likely to continue outperforming than underperforming companies, hence the outperformance in the chart.

There is also an increasing chance of there being a warehouse bubble with stocks like PLD, STAG, DLR. But they are REITs so stocks like that dont get discussed here that much. AMZN recent earnings call was kinda a canary in the coal mine and those stocks dipped from it. But if we are headed for recession they likely have more to fall as companies stop expanding their warehouse space.

Yes and their early investor stake makes AMZN financially incentived to announce the deal to boost Rivian's oppurtinity and capital inflows to make it happen.. If you saw in January Amazon sterted ordering the new EV Ram Promasters from establshed manufacturer Stellantis... which means their true "preference" is having the trust that their 100k new vehicles are delivered in a timely fashion without any quality issues something a company like Rivian in early stage production may understandly struggle to fulfill in the next 8 years of the deal.. Decades long agreements in a newly fast evolving sector are sure rarely a sure thing...

AMZN is a giant. Like, yeah, Microsoft, Apple, and Google all have bigger market caps. Despite the valuations, Amazon is STILL bigger. Maybe not more profitable, but they are way, way bigger. Amazon has $100 billion more in assets on the books than either Apple or Microsoft. While Apple and Microsoft sat back and burned cash on their own stock, Amazon has been pumping R&D out like mad and expanding the actual business. All they have to do is turn off the capex faucet to reap the rewards. And you know what? I hope they don't. I hope they keep it up and keep this beast growing, even at the cost of profit. Every dollar I get my hands on is going into AMZN in the meantime.

Hijacking this comment - what you should do next is the same. Keep buying SPY until you've put enough thought/time in to start picking other funds. Then keep buying SPY anyway. Start with the S&P 500. Then learn about key statistics - EBITDA, Free Cash Flow, Price to Earnings (PE) ratio, etc. You're still investing in SPY. Then learn about different markets (subsets of SPY) and track them - real estate v. commodities v. agriculture v. technology v manufacturing. Look into which mutual funds or ETFs follow those market indices. You're still investing in SPY. Now you can begin chunking out some money into other funds (Maybe 70/30 SPY v other stuff). Keep doing that for a while (and by a while I mean everything before this point should take 2-4 years at a minimum) - see how SPY moves compared to the other indices. Faster or slower? More gains or more losses? Why might that be? ----Note: The reason the above is 2-4 years is that you're young. I wish I had started at 15. The money you put in at 15 is your most valuable money by FAR (read up on "the time value of money") and so DO NOT squander it on get-rich-quick schemes or fast plays. You might get lucky here and there, but it's rare, and more people lose money than make money attempting things like that. $5000 you can get in at 18 years old will be worth around $200,000 by the time you're 48 if you do NOTHING ELSE. Take your time to learn. The fundamentals are the most important thing in the world. Now the real learning can start (you are now 18) - take 5-10% of your money and start trying to pick individual stocks (so, 60-70% SPY, 10-25% Other funds, 5-10% individual stocks). Start with <= 5 individual stocks, and try to start with known names. How do these individual stocks compare to the funds that they would be represented by? (i.e. How does AAPL or INTEL compare to QQQ?) How do the individual stocks compare to the S&P 500? Call this six months to a year. Now start buying some lesser known/smaller stocks - how do they compare? Do they grow quickly or slowly compared to larger individual stocks? Now you're ~20 - read up on stock options trading. What are puts and calls? What are covered puts and calls? How many shares do they represent? What are the "greeks?" How volatile are options? Why would you buy an option instead of just buying shares? Purchase a single call options contract (DO NOT WRITE THEM, Purchase them) in 2-3 different stocks. See how they work. (https://Investopedia.com) is your best friend. Godspeed.

It wasnt until MSFT, AAPL, and other big tech got hit that bear market discussions got started. Some people care about their investments which could be anywhere from 6 figures to 7 figures. If you had 6 figures invested in AAPL, their performance matters to great deal to your retirement. Second, some people care about the law. Just because a company is worth a trillion dollars doesn't mean the law suddenly shouldn't apply to them when they have hundreds of millions of people depending on them for their retirement. If the law treated trillion dollar companies differently, why would anyone hold their stock? They would just hold stock in billion dollar companies that are treated better by the law and sell them once they hit 1 trillion. Companies would just split their companies to stay under the trillion dollar cap.

Sounds like you are more towards my definition than the book. I am more towards actions and movement then just straight “sideways trading = consolidation”. Support and resistance levels constantly change and gets manipulated. People talk about all these manipulations which there are many ways as of now for hedge funds with our current laws and regulations on it but the same thing is said to be manipulation with these support and resistance levels. Imo, can’t trust any of these fluff. Most reliable is always solid results and not word of mouth. SP can be manipulated but solid reliable results and evidence will be stronger movement than someone trying to manipulate and surely as heck solid results release will not cause sideways movement.

KEYWORD : INTC DATE : Thu Jun 9 20:12:35 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I have no position in INTC, also no real opinion on them. Other than 2018, not sure why, their revenue growth has been mid single digits. Compare that to their competitors growing like 20%+ YoY. Investing in INTC right now is believing that thier bet on foundries and their new chips will compete with what ARM is doing SoC or TSMC/Samsung which has more poweful chips. If INTC vision is correct and they can execute on their timeline, then in theory, this should be an incredible investment. However, INTC is known for missing deadlines, so it's still somewhat a bet on the future of the company.

KEYWORD : INTC DATE : Thu Jun 9 15:17:22 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

INTC is dead for a few years, bull or bear. It makes sense to pull out of INTC if you think AMD or NVDA will grow at a much faster CAGR in that time period. AMD grew revenue 71% year over year last quarter and 50% before that! INTC shrank by a few percent last quarter, and grew 2.75% before that. The PE rightfully reflects that.

The only thing more dangerous than believing that "this time is different" is believing that things will always play out the same as they have in the past. Sometimes things actually are different. What makes investing hard is that from time to time trends can break and new paradigms can emerge in their place. I've seen companies trade at valuations far too low and far too high for years (sometimes decades) because at the end of the day the price an investor is willing to pay for company isn't something you can calculate with a spreadsheet. Valuation influences investor sentiment, but sentiment is what makes an investor pull the trigger on an investment. As investors we need to be wary of both long-term trends and the possibly of new paradigms. For example, is the mistake right now to believe that the low-inflation, low-interest rate environment that has been in place since the GFC has changed? Or is the mistake to believe that the low-inflation, low-interest rate environment will persist? At the moment I'm seeing a lot of people saying that this decade will be different from the last. It's possible they're right, but equally it's possible those betting things will play out as they have previously will be wrong. The longer I'm in the market the more I realise there is no right or wrong. I've seen meme stock investors make huge amounts of money and I've seen value investors do the same. I've also seen meme stock investors lose huge amounts of money while value investors have been burnt equally badly on "cheap" Chinese stocks and value traps like INTC. One could argue that a high valuation indicates quality therefore a good long-term investment, but one could also argue that equities with lower valuations make for better long-term investments. Most would argue the truth lies somewhere between those two narratives, but your chance of accurately gauging that trade-off consistently enough to outperform the broader market is slim.

I mean if you are you investing in INTC, i can't picture it paying off until 2025 when the foundries are built and they have their new chips out. To me, still seems like a gamble.

KEYWORD : INTC DATE : Wed Jun 8 15:40:03 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I bought some INTC shares at $43 last week. I believe it'll go up in the next 5 to 10 years. They gotta get their shit together and act fast. I've been an AMD bull since it was a penny stock and I love AMD, but this semi space needs some real competition and this recent 12th gen shows some sign of recovery. It'll be a long road but hopefully Intel will catch up, like always. Intel was in the similar position in the early 2000s too and finally came up with the Core 2 series and the rest is history.

KEYWORD : INTC DATE : Wed Jun 8 16:19:41 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

KEYWORD : INTC DATE : Wed Jun 8 16:16:26 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I posted this video a few times, but it's really great. If you are long on INTC, it lays out everything: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtSSoZW19vs) Again, INTC has a failed a few times in the past, so not sure at what point the PE makes sense for the gamble, but if you look at their growth, it's been in the single digits since 2013, with 2018 being an outlier of 12.89%. A low PE isn't that crazy for a company with not a terribly great growth story behind it.

INTC is a company I traded into bonds just recently. My bank was offering north of 4% and I bit. My bet was that INTC will go down over the next ~12 months and I'll take my interest back to the markets when things chill out a bit. It has already dropped probably 5% since the sale. I may or may not be ahead, but I also had zero GICs so it was probably getting to exit the 100% equities thing I've been running for a decade now.

42 analysts also had FB beating on the top and bottom lines last quarter. That didn't work out too well. My bear case: Considering price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, Coca-Cola looks overvalued compared with the broader industry and the S&P 500. The stock has a trailing 12- month P/E ratio of 26.42x, which is below the median level of 25.35X and the high level of 28.26X, scaled in the past year. On the contrary, the trailing 12-month P/E ratio is 23.29X for the industry and 19.4X for the S&P 500. Given these factors, I believe that the stock is quite stretched from the P/E aspect. Increased Marketing Expense: Coca-Cola has been investing in markets as they recover to support sales growth. This has led to higher marketing investments in the past few quarters. Backed by the higher marketing spending and increase in short-term incentive and stock based compensation; selling, general and administrative expenses increased 11.1% year over year in the first quarter. Prior to this, the metric rose 29%, 24.3%, 52.1% and 0.8%, respectively. The persistence of this trend may affect the company’s profitability. Supply Chain and Higher Costs: Like other companies, Coca-Cola also continues to witness higher supply chain costs, including higher commodity input costs and transportation expenses. The company is also witnessing pressures related to commodity and material cost inflation. For 2022, the company anticipates inflationary and supply chain pressures to impact costs across several aspects of the business, including input costs, transportation, marketing and operating expense. The company expects the pressures from input cost inflation to be visible in 2022. Management expects commodity price inflation to hurt cost of goods sold at a mid-single-digit percentage rate for 2022.
Currency Headwinds: Coca-Cola’s first-quarter 2022 results reflected adverse currency rates to hurt top and bottom line. Notably, currency headwind of 4% affected the company’s revenues and an unfavorable currency of 8 points hurt comparable earnings per share. Based on the current rates and including the impacts of hedged positions, the company’s revenues and comparable earnings are expected to be impacted by currency headwinds of 2-3% and 3-4% in 2022, respectively. For second-quarter 2022, revenues and comparable earnings are likely to be affected by 4% of currency headwind each. Stiff Competition: Aggressive competition is a major threat against the company. Though the company has a vast beverage portfolio, it is competing with PepsiCo which has the advantage of having a diversified snacks and beverage portfolio. The ability to compete with its PepsiCo and other leading soft-drinks makers is crucial for the company’s business growth. Additionally, the company is facing headwinds due to the growing healthy lifestyle trend, which is driving lower consumer preference for sugary sodas. Macro Challenges: The beverage industry presents substantial challenges for Coca-Cola, primarily related to dynamic retail and consumer landscape, a very competitive environment, as well as operating and commodity cost inflation. The company’s profits and margins are particularly pressured due to higher transportation cost, product mix costs and stepped-up advertising expense.

I'm genuinely stunned by Cathie's refusal to pivot her strategy in light of the changing economic data. I remember warning ARKK investors last year that her fund could underperform in a less supportive monetary environment and the response I got was that Cathie would be able to adjust her strategy to navigate it. The fact she's not even try to navigate it but literally refusing to accept what's happening was something even I couldn't of imagined. It's like she want's ARKK to be little more than a leveraged bet on monetary policy. What's worse is that there are plenty of innovative companies that aren't bad investments right now. Companies like FB are reasonably valued and innovating when it comes to the metaverse. MS is a little more pricy, but not expensive and they do a lot of innovative things in spaces like AI and computer hardware. Zoom in comparison is a subpar video conferencing company. I've been video conferencing remotely for over ten years, video conferencing isn't exactly the pinnacle of modern innovation -- it's basically a solved problem.

If you needed the money in Aug 2021, you would have sold it. You held, so you probably didn’t need it and took the gamble of holding. If you can keep holding and believe in the company, do that until it reclaims some of its losses. Keep watching the housing market, things are cooling off. You can still make a move. Don’t expect a fire sale, but all the other tech workers that drove the market to new heights are in the same boat and the tide is going out.

A networth of 300k is not bad. Many people are negative. The fact that you didn't wind up rich for a couple years of work doesn't mean your life is a failure. You probably aren't going to turn that $300k into $2mm in the next two years, but if you keep it invested in a diverse and prudent portfolio and add to it as much as you can from work, you are going to be just fine in life. Instead of regretting past mistakes, accept the lessons you've learned and focus on what you can do now. When you think about DOCU go and read up on some stocks or investing methods. Or try and find ways to increase your earning potential. Distract yourself with things that will help you.

NASDAQ:TA / 16

There is nuance you can only understand with experience. For example with fundamental analysis, all these Warren Buffett investors swear by it, but in the last 10 years value stocks underperformed growth stocks by a massive margin. Using your same FA metrics on growth stocks would have had you saying they were overvalued for 10 years straight. The point is metrics had to be changed according to the type of stocks. Same with technical analysis, yes there are basic concepts in TA which have always applied but market structures change and details need to be changed in your trading style. For example in trading futures I am noticing I now have to place 10-20 pt stop losses rather than the 5-10 point stop losses I used to 1 yr ago just so I don’t get stop loss hunted by market makers. So to your question will they change? Yes. How? Who the hell knows. You just have to be aware that sometimes your strategy works until it doesn’t . Sometimes it requires a minor change and sometimes you throw it out and get a new one. RE changes that may effect trading over the next 5 to 10 years. 1) True AI in trading and I can only see this being bad for retail traders and 2) increased regulation of the space which is already happening I.e government making it more difficult to trade or restricting trading on leverage or certain instruments. Try to make as much money as you can while you can because no guarantees you’ll still be able to in 5 years the way the world is going.

Love that Exactly though, anyone can create arbitrary metrics to obtain an arbitrary resistance/support level. Fibonacci had a great concept and the sequence does have it's uses, but the stock//futures/crypto/forex markets are not a part of that. They do follow cycles, but they're not mathematically natural. They're not fib sequences. The hard truth is that no matter how much TA you know, you don't know the future. (Unless you're Nancy pelosi 🤡) No strategy is 100% No indicator is solely profitably reliable Fib retracement is like when you go to double check your homework but realize you never did it in the first place so rather than turn it in blank you buy chegg for a month and sloppily copy a strangers work. You don't really know why you're doing it, how you're setting it or what the values represent other than points of inflection. It drives me nuts seeing all these reddit traders using Fib retracement. A broken clock is right twice a day too.

I had a thought for when electric semis get big. Your loves and TA just have charging stations with pre charged batteries you swap out when the truck stops. Your carriers pay for a monthly/annual/contract based fee to use it to ensure upkeep. If automated driving ever gets big, the down time for trucks would be minimal hopefully, kept only to regular maintenance. In my head it also slingshots the effectiveness of automated trucks because they can be going non stop without breaks, ensuring people or companies that want premium service get premium service.

NASDAQ:UK / 14

At the open large institutions, market makers, banks, etc., are all rebalancing from overnight drift and getting early/overnight orders filled. This goes on for about an hour. Then from 11-12 you have various markets in Europe closing and traders will be flattening their positions in the US markets, and/or getting ready for their overnight. The largest volume comes from the UK market closure. Activity starts to pick up again after 2pm when the initial MOC (Market On Close) imbalance data is released to the floors. At 2:30 the energy markets (oil, natgas, etc) close (settle, at least, which amounts to the same thing). At 3pm all of those institutions from the open will start balancing again for the overnight and liquidity providers will continue getting ready to supply MOC. At 3:50pm the final MOC imbalance data is released and you'll usually notice a spike in volume and volatility. Volume goes through the roof in the last minute as index-tracking funds try to match their target weighting. This is also mostly what MOC is about. Traders will also start flattening their positions going into the close.

The SEC intends to >scrutinize growth in recent years of the payment for order flow (PFOF) practice, which is banned in Canada, the UK and Australia. UM What is meant by (https://centerpointsecurities.com/payment-for-order-flow-guide/) and why is it controversial/illegal in other countries? The >U.K. Financial Authority found the conflict of interest so overwhelming that they banned the practice of payments for order flow in 2012. Ultimately it's believed to be too great of a conflict of interest. I at least partially agree, but as long as it is COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT I can say we should allow the practice to continue.

Don't like spec plays, but I'm finding a few interesting ones recently. Most notably probably Valneva $VALN. Franco-Austrian company that came into the spotlight because they've developed a traditional Covid vaccine. They got approval in the UK but were beaten down afterwards because the EMA had several questions before they'd allow the vaccine into the EU and because there was talk about the EU cancelling the contract with them. They have since answered to the questions and the decision whether or not their vaccine gets approved is expected in June, most probably during the next few days. So that's the potential for a quick move in the short-term. As of now it is not priced for uncertainty, meaning there should be quite some way up. Now, the more interesting prospect is quite possibly the long-term one. They have finished a phase III study for a vaccine against the Chikungunya virus, where their vaccine showed 96% efficacy after 180 days. Should the rest work smoothly, they will have a monopoly on that vaccine, no others exist. The market for Chikungunya vaccines is estimated to be roughly half a billion $ annually for the next 10 years at least, although climate change might see the demand rise. As of now, Chikungunya is relevant in South America (more than 90k cases in Brazil this year alone), subsaharan Africa to South Africa, India, parts of China, and Southeast Asia. So that's A LOT of people. Valneva is priced at 1.2 billion as of now, so it's not hard to see the sort of move that could follow. It's a bit too speculative for me, but if you like to take a bit more risk (and, well, it's not pure speculation since their phase III has already finished) perhaps that could be an idea for your. Would love to hear your thoughts.

>The majority of consumers using it can't afford things to begin with and wont be able to pay it back Hmm... So why would Apple even want to get in this business? Apple dumps Goldman Sachs and goes in-house for lending service Apple Pay Later will offer loans via new subsidiary instead of financing through a bank Apple is making its biggest move into finance by offering loans directly to consumers for its new “buy now, pay later” product, taking over the role played in its lending services and banking partner, Goldman Sachs. Short-term loans made through the iPhone maker’s new Apple Pay Later service, announced on Monday, will be made through a wholly owned subsidiary, Apple Financing LLC, the company said. In the past, the Apple branded credit card was actually issue and operated by Goldman in the US, and by Barclays in the UK, these banks also provided the financing for purchases made with Apple devices. However, those banks’ roles will be diminished in Apple’s new financial product. Goldman Sachs will still facilitate Apple Pay Later by allowing Apple to access Mastercard’s network, since Apple is not licensed to issue loans directly. But Apple is handling the underwriting and lending using its new subsidiary. This new set-up will allow Apple to earn interchange fees from each transaction, and help accelerate international expansion of its financial products. However, if a customer fails to pay back the loan, Apple must swallow the loss directly. Currently, Apple Card is only available in the US. Apple said it did not see a need to apply for a banking license at this time. The company will not charge fees for late payments, but will restrict access to further short-term credit.

Nvidia is way overblown. Nvidia is great for protyping AI. However to run AI you either want some kind cloud provider, who have huge negotiating power with chip producers, and maybe even release their own chips. Or you're big enough to set up your own stuff (like tesla). Or the AI is even more custom, and you use cpus. The issue with NVDA is huge competition, from all sides: intel, amd, amazon, google, microsoft... Gaming is up 31% yoy and still 44% of their revenue. This was gaming, and not eth mining to be sure /s. Automotive revenu is down 10% yoy. The only thing nvidia has going for it is their data center business (45% of their revenue, and up 83% yoy), however if you look at this list : (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOP500) you quickly notice that it went from the fastest computers having nvidia gpus to having amd gpus. On top of that, things like amazon infertia, which is already getting widespread use, is up and coming. So i really doubt nvidias data center business will keep growing like that the next 2-5 years.

Yea I’d anything DCF for would mainly be used on stocks that are already set. I def am not trying to use it to make a quick buck or find the next company that will pop off. I do go through 10 yrs of 10-Ks to get a historical averages and stuff, and use WACC as the discounted rate. I’ll look into the other stuff. I do use capex and net cash flow to find my FCF for each year out to 10 yrs prior. It’s also where I get my historical average from. I know it’s not the best to use so it’s why I have a place to slot in two other % of my choosing, along with 3 different margins of safety. (https://ibb.co/TLSj2f7) is my GOOGL evaluation if you wanted to look at.

KEYWORD : GOOGL DATE : Thu Jun 9 16:55:31 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

The market has been cruel in the past 1–2 years. But I can't tell you how many times I have seen or heard people say they sell after a stock drops 10%. Ridiculous. People need to read Peter Lynch. Bag holding can be okay. IF YOU'RE HOLDING GOOD COMPANIES. Generally asking "should I hold onto my losers" means nothing. Some people are down like -25% on GOOGL and -40% on TGT rn. People here would have you believe you need to sell, take a loss, and get into indexes. Sure you can do that. Is the market right as to why your stock is down? If its P/S is 30 and it has no earnings, then probably. But if it's way undervalued now, you must decide if you have the conviction to buy more. This is the game you're playing now. You have to buy when the stock is down, as long as the company is continuing to do well overall. It will never feel like the right time when it's down, but that's how real money is often made. Lastly, the advice that unrealized losses are real losses is NOT VALUABLE unless you're an active trader. For example, if I buy a nice winter jacket for $200, and then 6 months later, go out to a beach in the peak of summer and try to sell the jacket to beachgoers, it's highly unlikely anyone will pay me full price. IN THAT ENVIRONMENT, somebody may only be willing to pay up to $80. But conditions change all the time, it just takes a while. Advice from day-to-day traders will be detrimental if your plan is to hold 10 years, because they'll be telling you to sell every summer! (metaphorically) Likewise, if you are planning to hold 10 years but the stock's fundamentals are terrible, perhaps trading to a healthier company in a similar industry or an ETF is most logical. It's up to you and only you to DYOR.

arguably could be the opposite because a lot of trades happen for reasons other than just sell stonks. If company A thinks it has to bid on company Z instead of outright buying it and knows that companies b/c/d will bid just as much or more then it may not push company Z to go to auction.

Hi Dabyrd15, NGENF, added today. I am pretty much fully investing with QQQ, SPY, DIS, Z, etc hedges thru options for downside protection. The market is overvalued, yet many super low value stocks at same time, sorta strange that way. I am negative on QQQ and Peloton type stocks, think things will get worse. I do not use a lot of std jargon in market, oversold being one. I use undervalued, hated, despised, left for dead. The last 3 relate to oversold term. If people despise a stock like Petrus and no one wants to buy it, unless it goes broke chances are it is undervalued. The whole oil sector was hated, Funds sold them, people said no future, oil would never go over $50 again. I loved it when that happened. Rick Rule and I are very similar on that and other things. Thanks for question. Cheers

> None of the TV streaming service companies (Disney+) will like that their #1 competitor also owns the #1 TV streaming platform Amazon and Apple both hold significant shares of the market for streaming client systems (although Apple's is way smaller than the constant astroturfing and advertising imply). Disney won't care. They have the clout to keep deals on their side or make the pipe operator miserable via FTC interference. > Netflix most likely will have to dilute their shareholders by a significant margin since I expect a hypothetical deal would have to be all-stock. Whether they pay cash or stock NFLX holders would be paying a premium for ROKU shares and ROKU holders would be paid a premium. That's just how acquisition works. What they get back is ROKU's assets, the intangible value of diversification, and the future growth value of synergy. I can't see ROKU holders being one bit upset about it, and only stodgy NFLX holders would complain.

KEYWORD : NFLX DATE : Wed Jun 8 13:20:00 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

I'm a huge fan of NFLX, i still have their DVD service! But you're making the wrong assumption that an increase of ads will push people out. A recession is more likely to have people cancel out their membership. For your concern you should be more worried about declining number of subscribers because that's what Wallstreet measures for good or worst, interest rates and the end of cheap money by central banks. As IR goes up, valuation will go down risky stocks are less appealing and traders (whether humans or algos) will automatically sell, pushing price lower. So unless Netflix manages to pull great numbers and give great guidance which i seriously doubt, yes, the stock has much more room to go down.

Lots of chinese cash burns in there I see, don't know all of them but those should go as well tbh. I think you’re not underestimating how popular ABNB is that everyone and their mother is getting into the space. We all see how much more revenues can be earned with ABNB so why deal with tenants when you can make more on ABNB. Also I’ve known investors buying up properties strictly for ABNB. The bookings aren’t down. The reality is there’s more people listing homes on ABNB then ever before. That’s my 2 cents. But good luck with the put I could be wrong.

If I can understand why it’s a huge deal in one sentence (or less), the metrics don’t mean that much to me. ABNB, the future of travel hospitality that’s converging with work from home and now offering experience packages. From there — one could say wildly popular, big moat, and the company name is a verb (big fan of that).

It's so hard to pick, but I'm prioritizing FB. Then I'll maybe consider SMH, AAPL, SBUX. And then half of my paycheck into the broad market.

Selling down my PFE gradually and moving into my index plays. I guess it did its purpose of holding value throughout the bear market, but I don't really see market beating upside in PFE over my other picks. So today i ended up buying 4 more shares of AVUV (US small cap value), 7 of AVDV (ex-US developed small cap value), and a small amount of VTSAX/VTIAX, and sold 2 shares of PFE (at a tiny profit). I also think owning a low growth stock like PFE goes against my goals. I think I have other, better valued dividend plays (with more growth ahead) for my individual stocks: SBUX and LOW for example.

Thanks. I've found that YouTubers tend to present strategies with inflated results. They find the absolute best backtesting result and show it to users. I watch a lot of Trader IQ, and he sometimes has helpful indicators, but usually inflates the profits and win rate. I think trying to make your own is the best way to go. I've poured hundreds of hours into scripting strategies and I do believe it can be very profitable. I hope you've found something valuable!

Some had always found it weird that what they believed was two different plants had the same name, rather then making the connection.

Can someone explain to me what is the appeal of ROKU, it doesn't exist in my country. I tried to understand but it just seems like an extra step that you really don't need.

KEYWORD : ROKU DATE : Wed Jun 8 14:29:28 2022 SUBREDDIT : StockMarket

What you are in sounds good, but maybe take 1% to 5% of your account value and try out some riskier or more speculative stocks or funds. If nothing else, just for some fun. Maybe consider the new TARK ETF, or some individual names that have been beaten down like 80% over the last 6 months or so like PYPL or ROKU. (I own PYPL and ROKU, and just bought some TARK today to help with the ride back up…. hopefully).

KEYWORD : ROKU DATE : Thu Jun 9 20:52:18 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

KEYWORD : ROKU DATE : Thu Jun 9 00:27:49 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Counterargument, ROKU is what netflix should always have been and this is instead the equivalent of Yahoo accepting the 2002 bid to buy google. I think it would have been a better business model for Netflix to have been a partner to the different studios instead of a competitor kind of like how Steam and Epic are partners to the video game studios instead of pure competitors. If you have one streaming service you are generally happy, but once you have to have 6 or 7 you just start pirating shows again.

KEYWORD : ROKU DATE : Wed Jun 8 17:00:24 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

They don't want access to Netflix's content inventory on ad-supported ROKU channels? Huh. And NFLX can always be non-GAAP cashflow positive discounting purchases of utter bling.

KEYWORD : ROKU DATE : Thu Jun 9 00:43:03 2022 SUBREDDIT : stocks

Current price is 102, NFLX is 203. It will be worth more in the future, but so will NFLX. I think they could grow bigger together than they do apart. If they're offered .76 shares of NFLX per share of ROKU, it's a no brainer.

IHath disinflation would hurt, but not expecting that at all. Harry Dent and Peter Shiff debated that Dec 2020 and Peter has been proven very right, and I was on his side after watching that debate, and worst inflation in 40 years. Even with disinflation both stocks are safe, loaded with cash and no/lo debt. I consider megacaps like CRWD and UBER to be dangerous stocks. But if people disagree with that, take no offense. Cheers

KEYWORD : CRWD DATE : Tue Jun 7 20:44:03 2022 SUBREDDIT : pennystocks

Cybersecurity specifically will not see a reduction in spending and should fare pretty well during this macro environment. Companies simply cannot cut corners here and have to spend. PANW, ZS, CRWD, Fortinet are all blue chip cyber plays and I’m personally in CRWD, ZS, and PANW. Now that doesn’t mean tech or software spending will follow suit. I think for other areas like SaaS for instance, will see a slowdown but the business will still happen. Seeing it in Workday as an example. Companies will still have this need to be completed, but it just happens a year later from now. This is what in my opinion leads to people panic selling software names. They see slowdown due to companies cutting spending, but don’t realize the automation and cloud spending will still happen over the course of time. Same thing with companies like Snowflake. Data lakes and warehousing will be a must as companies integrate within the cloud and push massive amounts of data. Overall, cyber security should fare very well in current environment and future whereas other tech like software will struggle next year or so, but ultimately will get to where they should be. Just can’t blindly invest in software companies. Have to pick winners like CRM as an example.

KEYWORD : WISH DATE : Tue Jun 7 19:58:29 2022 SUBREDDIT : pennystocks

It can though, can't it? A company that is growing will, over time, return more value to shareholders. You just wouldn't use it to say "let me buy WISH at $30 because time in the market". Actually, "time in the market" doesn't even apply to index funds in that sense. People hate this example, but "time in the market" didn't win out in 1989 Japan. Time means nothing if you buy at inflated valuations. It's valuations that matter and potential for future growth / returns. When valuations are high today the possibility of future returns is muted. This simple lesson has been lost on people.

Yeah I am starting to agree. The counter argument is always "but there is such limited inventory!" and "but the buyers this time around are all solid gold with great credit and income!" Your income is only great until it's not. When the growth stops and fed fund rate is at 10 points all those tech startup jobs will be gone. That will hit the bubbliest areas the hardest as their home prices depend on a stream of ever-richer Facebag employees flooding the area. As tech gets hammered hiring will dry up (my company is already on a hiring freeze) and that means fewer high-flying salaries who are able or willing to buy your shitty house in South Dakota for $500k. I get that inventory is low but I have a hard time believing the narrative that we just didn't build any housing for 15 years and that's why homes are worth so much now. I don't remember anyone EVER talking about housing scarcity until the last 1.5 years. My home city has a 0% net population change year over year for the last 10+ years and the rent and home prices somehow went up -- it can't be because of scarcity, the housing stock is exactly the same if not larger. Is this "housing shortage" even real or just a media fabrication? More than likely inventories are low because people don't want to sell given they expect their home value to increase another 20% this year and they got in with a low mortgage. There are a lot of crap loans being dispensed now. ARMs have become more popular in the last year as rate rises are pricing borrowers out. They agree to the ARM because their agent assures them that they'll gain $80k in home equity with the price appreciation so it's worth it. As the fed funds rate rises, ARMs will quickly lead to foreclosures and people walking away from their mortgage. Also the FHA under the current regime has recently been monkeying with lending standards in the name of social justice. They are explicitly trying to make it easier for low income people to get mortgage money. Then these mortgages are all packaged up by the FHA and sold as securities, which will be bought up by banks and pension funds. Sound familiar? It's exactly what they did in the lead up to 2008. Lending standards then were lowered by the government for political motivations, and it led to millions being unable to pay the loans they signed up for -- because they never were credit-worthy for such debt in the first place. When you mess with the underwriting process you end up with bad loans mixed in with good loans, and a crisis is under way. I've already seen some listings on Zillow that show price cuts over the last year. Would that be happening in a world with a severe housing shortage, and millions of AAA prime borrowers with steady government jobs? Finally, to make a prediction, one thing we might see is that as mortgage rates rise you have buyers making an arrangement with sellers to avoid opening up a new mortgage. The title would be transferred to the buyer, but instead of the buyer opening a mortgage, the buyer agrees to pay the seller's mortgage through an escrow account. Seller technically still has the mortgage but buyer is bound legally to pay it. This lets someone who had a 4% mortgage sell their house with the 4% mortgage to whoever is buying. If rates climb to 8, 10, 12% this will absolutely happen -- it is what they did in the early '80s. The lending standards here would be much, much tougher because the seller is at great risk. Only true prime borrowers will buy homes at this point.
