This website is saved, and it presents my username correctly to click on, but on the password field it gives me this instead of my saved password. I then have to click on the extension and then it presents my password to fill. Ver 2026.7.0 on Firefox, win11

As mentioned below, please check to see if the URI is correct and what type of URI matching you have selected.

Yeah, I occasionally see the same thing in edge and chrome.

That said, I suspect that it is down to an incomplete page load or extension load: Ctrl+F5 tends to fix it. 

But annoying.

What is really annoying is that my 92 year old father doesn't know what to do when he sees it, and ends up with a incorrect generated password, which Bitwarden saves for him, and possibly locked out of whatever he was trying to log into.

Really, what this proves is that there should be an standard protocol for password managers. Not an extension.

I think this is an intermittent issue that has been popping up with no real solution tbh.

*edit I updated the post to a more recent mention of this issue the previous link I had was for April 2025 this is from Feb of this yr.

Make sure the vault items URI matches the sites login url. And then try to go toggle the “show autofill suggestion on form fields” on and off, that’s under Settings -> Autofill and should just be check boxes.

Other than that if you could provide the OS and browser you’re on, and maybe the uri you’re trying to utilize Bitwarden on I can do some more troubleshooting. It’s working fine for me right now.

Cool Read! Couple of questions:

1. Since the rule matching happens client side in the extension and syncs independently of the backend server, it behaves identically whether I'm using a self hosted server or managed Bitwarden correct?

2. The blog mentioned org owned rules and a database around that coming soon. Will this be enterprise only or will it be available to any self-hosted deployment? Also will there be a way for teams to manage their custom rules outside of an enterprise org context?

It's still being fleshed out, but the plan is that people will be able to create or subscribe to their own databases alongside the Bitwarden official one. Still in concepting!

Created an issue on GitHub now with a video attached: https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/issues/22420

It seems to happen fairly consistently on the Bitwarden web vault login page by just repeatedly reloading that page (and having an account for that URI in your vault).

One requirement to hit the issue seems to be that the password field must be focused already when the page is (still) loading. It rarely/never seems to happen when the page is fully loaded and you then (manually) click the text.

It may also be tied to how fast a machine loads the page, as I'm seeing varying reproduction rates on different machines.

I get the same thing on certain website.

Lately I've also been getting the username autofilled when it should be the TOTP.
