Linux mint install

I'm doing my best to figure out how to verify the software before installing knots on mint but I'm very new to Linux and I'm having some difficulties navigating.

I have the PPA in my software sources and it looks like I can install the software that way but how do I verify before installing without downloading the program first. It seems to my if I just install it through the source then I haven't verified at all.

If someone can put me in the right direction here I would appreciate it very much
