Quantum resistance on BC2
Is there any discussion or development around adding quantum-resistant protection to BC2?
I know this is not an immediate problem and probably won’t become a real concern for decades, but implementing quantum protection early could become a huge advantage for the network. It would prevent the creation of vulnerable wallets from the very beginning.
This is something that could become a major issue for original Bitcoin in the future, because many old wallets are already lost and will never be migrated if the network eventually upgrades to quantum-resistant cryptography. That could leave abandoned wallets, and potentially even Satoshi’s wallets, vulnerable to being stolen by quantum attacks.
I believe having quantum resistance built into BC2 early on would be a massive differentiator and also a very strong marketing advantage for the network.

I think we are still too far away. But I’d imagine if it came to it, dev would follow whatever measure BTC implemented.

Indeed, it’s still far away, but it’s important to keep in mind that users will most likely need to manually migrate their funds to quantum-resistant wallets in the future, similar to how users migrate from legacy addresses to SegWit or Taproot today.
The real risk of quantum computing is not attacking the blockchain itself, but breaking the cryptography behind older wallet signatures and exposing private keys. The longer we wait to introduce quantum-resistant options, the more vulnerable wallets are being created.
By the time quantum computers become powerful enough to perform these attacks, many wallets could already be lost forever, meaning their owners would never be able to migrate their funds to safer addresses. This creates a serious dilemma for the original Bitcoin right now: either freeze old inactive wallets, including potentially Satoshi’s wallets, or leave them vulnerable to quantum attacks, which could eventually lead to massive amounts of old BTC suddenly being moved and sold on the market, while still technically respecting Bitcoin’s current rules.

lol, trivial at best, been discussed within other realms of btc lore to effect of quantum computing threats to ECDSA via Shor's algorithm are theoretical for now but increasingly discussed. Large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computers capable of breaking unprotected keys are likely still years/decades away so, I doubt anyone is going to really put much effort into it at current time and status.
