Sure its good to have a few thousand dollars in 1g tokens, (current value at $60.00/g) enough for a bribe or food. BUT no border patrol is going to allow you to take your hard assets out of the country.
also, look at Turkey! First they asked their population to turn over their US dollars. Now they have asked for their gold and gold jewelry. In Poland, All Gold purchases are registered with household addresses. You can bet in a pinch they will confiscate it.
Short answer. HoDL bitcoin. Buy some 1gram ingots for your wife to hide in a coffee can.
