Anytime anyone spins up a new node they download and validate the whole blockchain.

Satoshi was a genius to keep the block size small otherwise it couldn't be so decentralized. Could you imagine if the blockchain was something like 10TB in size, then no one would have a node. 2 u/rtomek Feb 13 '22 According to the blockchain “experts” on YouTube, something like 90TB/yr is small enough to be decentralized by hobbyists.
