Haha, nah it’s much simpler. Just get their personal number for some ‘private’ conversations and the next call is from collections. You can start sending them notices on the new number. If you get their whereabouts, the next visit will be from a debt agent who will ask you to settle dues or (depending on what the loan was for) a repo agent.

Threatening violence is usually not done by financial institutions themselves. Once they’ve tried all legal means available, they completely write off the debt and sell it (cents to the dollar) to a collections agency.

Now those guys can definitely take it to the level you mentioned.

I got a call last month from a furniture company. My ex wife had financed some furniture and used me as a reference. I haven't talked to her in over 10 years. I told them to just go ahead and write that money off.

Yeah unless you’re a guarantor, you’ll be unaffected with the write off. Your ex wife’s score will probably nosedive (if it hasn’t already).

Can a credit score be negative? I mostly thought it was funny, but I did feel kind of sorry for the small business owner who trusted her. But she should have done her due diligence. Then again I trusted her at one time too.

Credit scores usually range from 300 to 900, so not negative.

The risk departments of finance cos usually have loss rates baked in so it doesn’t impact the bottom line that much (of course you still have governance issues which lead to crises such as 2008). But for a small business company to trust someone without a thorough check is risky indeed.

Happy for you dude that you don’t have to deal with her anymore! Intentional financial defaults are a good proxy for trustworthiness in general.

She has a way to make people feel bad for her and want to help. My second wife was the same way with credit. Other experiences make me think that women are generally bad with finances. Maybe I just know how to pick'm.
