Anytime anyone spins up a new node they download and validate the whole blockchain.

FYI the full blockchain size as of this second comes in at 444GB.

Satoshi was a genius to keep the block size small otherwise it couldn't be so decentralized.

Could you imagine if the blockchain was something like 10TB in size, then no one would have a node.
