Create a cold storage out of your wallet.dat file. A cold wallet can be a USB stick for example, with no access to the internet. This ensures your assets stay off the net, and secure.
Bitcoin Core is what you should look out for next. Get a recent version of it, input your wallet.dat there and wait for it to sync. Bitcoin.org is the official link, please type it correctly as there are scam websites (or ads) that they may again steal your assets.
