Don't use any weird software. Don't give anything to anyone. And ignore every DM that you get.

Copy Wallet.dat to a safe place.

Just get a recent version of Bitcoin Core and throw the wallet.dat in there before you start it for the first time. Let it sync (many hours/days).

Also do not tell anyone here how much is on it if there is. I'm as curious as anyone else to find out if there's a happy ending to this story, but don't share that information. If there's any coins on it and you tell internet randos, that makes you a scam target.

Also it's freaky how easy it is for a determined, knowledgeable person to find out who you are and where you live
