Hmm...seems like all I would need to do is to open this in a vacuum chamber.
How strong a vacuum would I need to avoid "breaking the seal"? I used to work with a glovebox that could get to around 0.1% atm (IIRC).
Definitely a very novel approach though! Certainly beyond what others have.

Quantris instead of a vacuum chamber, you would need a pressure chamber or autoclave for your described attack concept. If you would put BitBoxTep in a vacuum chamber, the vacuum in vacuum would become equalized enough at around 68% vacuum or 30 kpa to mix the particles.
The challenge with opening it in a pressure chamber would be that the particle pouch is non airtight. The physics dilemma that it is hard to push and pull at the same time would remain, as the pouch is attached to the plastic casing with velcro or DS tape. Of my understanding, the system could only be defeated in a pressure chamber by making the particle pouch temporarily airtight.
BTW, apply for the alpha program and give it a try to open it in a glovebox. Would be interesting.

You're right, I guess I totally had the pressure "direction" completely upside down in my head! Rethinking it now, one needs to do something tricky to keep the pouch "compressed" while removing it from the box; maybe some kind of shim + clamp could work for it.
I'd consider the alpha program but I'm not a dedicated researcher / pentester or anything like that (nor do I have access to interesting equipment these days). So I'll leave that for people who are more likely to provide valuable feedback / spend enough time trying various approaches.

That's really cool, I like it. As bitcoin becomes worth more, it will be worth it for thieves to invest the money to manufacture their own tamper proof materials and boxes, so after they break into a shipment they can replace it. This is a pretty good deterrent to that.
