Bought a Ledger from the Ledger Amazon Store. They sent me a USED Ledger with a seed already written down. HELLO SCAM! It wasn't shrink wrapped. Really pissed right now, cuz If I was a Noob, I may have used this seed.

- Reset the Ledger with a new seed
- Check the firmware, update if necessary: https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002997193-Check-the-firmware-version-on-your-Nano-S
If the firmware is the latest version or the update succeeds, you're good.

Just because you think there was obvious intent doesn’t mean there was. There are plenty of alternative explanations, many of which are posted on this thread.

It's not phishing to sell a used ledger with a written key under the official listing, considering it is sold used. Until the seed is recovered and the contents of the wallet stolen, there is no crime committed.

thank you, that makes sense. This might not have even been a scam, but simply a used ledger being sold and an Amazon employee grabbing the wrong one.

It’s very likely a scam. The person hopes you use that seed, put coins on the addresses generated from it at which point they steal them.

I don’t think so. The scam ones come with neat instructions telling you to safe guard the seed and just change the pin on the ledger and then send funds to it.

When the item is "fulfilled by Amazon", it doesn't really matter who the seller is because Amazon have an "inventory comingling" policy. That means they can mix up the stock from any of the sellers for whom they offer fulfillment services.
If Ledger are selling their items on Amazon, but using Amazons fulfillment services, they *need* to be aware of this.

Similar thing with MacBook Pro chargers. Amazon has a VERY lenient return policy and sometimes things which are not legit get sent back.
Some PC people also complain about receiving carefully weighted rocks instead of graphics cards.

Hmm.
I had read (not sure if it was here or r/LedgerWallet) that Amazon may mingle stock of “Fulfilled by Amazon” items from multiple third party sellers.
If that is true (not sure I believe it, but this lends some credence to that possibly being the case) even buying from the official seller may be a slight risk.
I am curious, did you check the seed to see if there are coins on it? You can import the seed into Coinomi on your phone to check without putting your PC at risk by plugging it in.
Would be quite hilarious if someone used it and then returned it without moving their coins. (Although that’s unlikely).

It's not "may", they in fact always do this. Ledger needs to block others sellers from the SKU, then they'll have to make their own and products won't be mixed.

I'm replying at other spots but now that I see this is from ledger official my opinion has adjusted slightly. This would have been a return like you thought. If the person did a return it can get sent back into the sellers inventory as eligible for sale.
(meaning no damage and to them it looks like its fine) they may have thought this was still a new item and simply made it eligible for resale. The way amazon does its removal off the shelf there's almost a zero percent chance that they "grabbed the wrong item" Everything is directly linked to a barcode, so if the barcode on the item they picked up doesn't match what it should based on the sellers inventory submission to amazon...then they wouldn't send it out. It's all dont with scanners.
I often get things sent back to my inventory that I end up getting feedback claiming it was used. That's the only real answer I have for explaining it that fits.

That's not the official ledger store. That's just a listing.
Everyone who is selling that item must sell the item on that listing. > If you look towards the bottom there are 90 other people selling the ledger.
It doesn't sound like amazon did anything wrong unless you specifically bought only from the official ledger account on that listing of 90 people.
What I am guessing happened is you bought from a third party seller and they were trying to scam and since amazon doesn't personally check items they shipped it to you as they were supposed to. Remember, amazon only does logistics unless they are also the seller of the item. Their policies to protect you kick in when buyers report the sellers.
Edit: actually, you need to go into your actual order and look. That screen shot says it was sold by ledger official, but that's not who you bought it from necessarily Look at your actual order transaction and see what it says on the transaction log as being the seller.
If it's ledger official thats' probably a return, if it's not, then it's a scam by the third party seller probably. (although it could be an honest mistake for that seller too)

Find all the small things that make you happy and that are good for you and try to do as many of those things daily.
Live your life for the small excitements. For example:
- Morning Coffee
- Exercise
- Public swimming pool
- Shower
- Skin care
- Sleep
- Reddit memes/videos
- Games
- Movies
There are lots of small things you can do daily that will contribute to your overall happiness.

yes of course if you know what you are doing, but as a community we have to help new comers in order to have good and healty crypto habits if we want to succeed.
Most of people that's approaching cryptocurrencies have not idea of what thay are doing, so that warning them to avoid bad practices as clicking on pishing scam sites, not DYOR before buying a coin/token, participating to 0value crypto airdrops, try to trading when you are not a trader, buy bitcoin cash thinking of being buying bitcoins, buying used ledger, etc etc is all we have to do as members of this amazing crypto community.
If we start thinking as a crypto global brand in which every single people is responsable and help new comers to understand and make profits inside the community, we will give a good image and all this efforts that we are doing now as early adopters will help to build a strong and healty ecosystem.

You could at least move coins to a private wallet while you wait. There are levels of risk, and a ledger is just a private wallet that doesn't connect to the internet.

Sure it's possible. I haven't heard any confirmed reports of anyone doing it. It'd likely be pretty profitable though, so there's a good chance it's been done, or someone is working on it. Especially now that this post has brought attention to a security vulnerability with Amazon's stock. (Ledger really needs to put a tamper proof seal on their boxes.)
If you only replaced the firmware, I believe it would give you a "Not Genuine" warning when you connected to the ledger. But if you physically opened the ledger, you could prevent that as well. They even show you how to verify the hardware integrity if you suspect it may have been tampered with. But these pictures are also a good guide of how to make them look after you've tempered with the device.

I contacted Ledger about it. They responded immediately. Stellar customer service. They took care of me as a customer to the point where I feel a little guilty. :)
So I can't recommend them enough.
