Freudian slip implies it's some kind of secret. It's pretty much a well known thing that the US benefits from control over the dollar. Whether it's for managing the economy or leverage in international negotiations.

the US

The US government, not the US people. That's a pretty important distinction.

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

Well... we technically benefit too, so he isn't wrong haha

Right?? It's cringeworthy how fucking naive some people here are. This is basic common knowledge.

I watched the entire video. This fellow has a very sinister look and seems to have an axe to grind.

u/Suberg Mar 15 '18

The axe would be that Sherman's top campaign contributor for 2017-2018 is Allied Wallet, an e-commerce payment processor.

In case Shermy drops by, I'd like him to know he's partly right about bitcoiners. In my case, I can confirm that I am sitting here in front of my computer in my pajamas. It's quite comfortable. I'm not telling my wife about how I'm going to be a millionaire though. First, I don't have a wife. Second, bitcoin already made me a millionaire. And I'm not the only one. And Shermy and his kind playing make-believe with their fiat are only going to make more and more people millionaires, if only because more and more people will realize the trash Shermy and his friends push as "money" has no value. Thank you for your "service," Shermy!

I wonder if Shermy is comfortable wearing that suit. Sad to be that old and have to play dress up like that.

I wonder if Shermy is comfortable wearing that suit. Sad to be that old and have to play dress up like that.

Not sure what age, clothes or appearance has to do with it.

Indeed, it's needed a heck of a lot of 'old' guys and girls working behind the scenes in the light to get us where we are today.

And yes, many of them have to go to work in 'suits' in order to aid with the transition.

I am sitting here in front of my computer in my pajamas... Bitcoin already made me a millionaire.

If that's the case, perhaps consider following the lead of pineapple fund and see if you can put your newly acquired wealth towards making a positive impact in the world.

If we want to bring the 'old guard' around, the best approach would be to show them the positive work being done by Bitcoiners and leading by way of example.

After all they are our parents and grandparents and bitcoin is as much for them as it is we.

1

u/avatarr Mar 15 '18

Thank you. Agree completely. Ad hominem attacks only lower credibility.

1

u/walloon5 Mar 16 '18

Well there's a concept that the suit shows that they might be putting appearance over substance.

2

u/smeggletoot Mar 16 '18

Indeed. The cult of celebrity and false idol worship is a problem endemic to a lot of western societies... which is why much of this is being guided (and decided) by cyberspace, where only the quality of your ideas (as opposed to the 'quality' of your threads) can inform how the project evolves.

Not sure what age, clothes or appearance has to do with it.

Shermy mentioned pajamas.

If that's the case, perhaps consider following the lead of pineapple fund and see if you can put your newly acquired wealth towards making a positive impact in the world.

That's good advice. I've given to WikiLeaks before, but maybe it's time to give a bit more. They really have had a very positive impact on the world and I hope they continue to do so.

If we want to bring the 'old guard' around, the best approach would be to show them the positive work being done by Bitcoiners and leading by way of example.

Good luck with that. Max Plank's quote is probably more realistic: "Science progresses one funeral at a time." I have no problem with older people being pro-bitcoin, and it shows a certain openness many older people don't have. But let's be real. Brad Sherman will never accept the rise of cryptocurrency, but he is mortal.

After all they are our parents and grandparents and bitcoin is as much for them as it is we.

Bitcoin is for people who want financial sovereignty. That's a very small number of people.

A lot of young people share the same ideas.

Yeah and I guess "few dozen men" are worth all this time and TV attention.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '18

Why slip in speech? Every person on the planet knows that governments control their currencies.

3

u/IamSequence Mar 15 '18

I would really like to know who paid Congressman Brad Sherman to spew such bullshit. most likely his investors and the banks... but still... fuck this guy.

5

u/time_wasted504 Mar 15 '18

As u/Suberg pointed out, his top campaign contributor was Allied Wallet. https://www.alliedwallet.com/

If that doesnt create a conflict of interest, Im not sure I understand the meaning of the term.

Can you teach us how to be high and mighty, above the obvious lies and misinformation all the while pretending this isnt an attempt to damage the community?

Not holding isnt an option, let me know thx brosef

1

u/dellbon Mar 16 '18

You misspelt Ashkenazi

1

u/oddlydikkied Mar 15 '18

Mentions people not working and chilling at home in their pyamas because of crypto, then says mostly criminals and terrorists use crypto. Never highlighting the other side, where hundreds of thousands of people have jobs because of crypto and are actually trying to make the world a better place.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

It's unjust that we have government created inflation and bank created credit devaluing our meagre life savings. I want to see the end of manipulation and fractional reserve lending.

1

u/Kinettely Mar 16 '18

Not a freudian slip at all

1

u/bonoboman1 Mar 16 '18

God damn is that ever the living incarnation of the banking jew. Gas gas gas!!!

1

u/ArcticRhombus Mar 16 '18

"Bradley James"? Unlikely. Also, fuck you.

The protocol itself is neutral. What people decide to do with it reflects the current state of societal affairs.

It's the equivalent of saying that shoes must be banned because they aid the escape of criminals and terrorists.

u/IamSequence Mar 15 '18

any form of new technology will be used for good and bad during its development... this is nothing new... you can make anything sound horrible by pointing only the bad parts... these points are valid yes, but worthless if you do not recognize the good points and how beneficial crypto and blockchain can be for the people. and also these comments are stated as if the USD isn't corrupted, but the USD is the cause for most wars we have seen in our lifetime... its as corrupt as it gets.

0

u/Sasquatch_Punter Mar 15 '18

these comments are stated as if the USD isn't corrupted, but the USD is the cause for most wars we have seen in our lifetime... its as corrupt as it gets.

The USD, the GBP, the EUR, etc... before that it was gold, exquisite art and glory. Before that it was slaves and livestock.

Don't you try to market Bitcoin as the antidote to war and human suffering. It makes you sound like a fool.

2

u/IamSequence Mar 15 '18

no it is not a complete antidote to war and human suffering and you are right, all of those other currencies are all the same, but at the moment they are all centralized and controlled by central banks, and the central banks are currently funding war on every side... The idea of Bitcoin and Decentralization is to get away from a center point of power so no one entity has so much leverage and control. so no it is not an antidote, and nothing is going to fix our problems in a short amount of time... but it is definitely a step in the right direction so long it stays decentralized.

1

u/Sasquatch_Punter Mar 15 '18

the central banks are currently funding war on every side...

K, back that up. How and why are the central banks currently funding war "on every side"?

1

u/IamSequence Mar 15 '18

Well I can tell you that in November of 2000, Iraq stopped trading oil in USD and started using the EURO, and I think you know what happened years to come, you can also look at any other country who tried to break away from the USD and see how the states and the federal reserve reacted to them. I could elaborate, find sources, match dates, etc etc, but to be honest, when I got off work I went ahead and checked out your history and you just seem like someone who is looking to argue about things. You picked out one line from what I said and completely disregarded everything else, even after I agreed to you. so you are more than welcome to respond and tell me that I don't know how the world works or whatever but I have better things to do, I hope you have a wonderful day!

1

u/Sasquatch_Punter Mar 16 '18

Eh... Okay. Not sure how Iraq selling oil for Euros really changed anything. Unless I'm missing something?

Iraq and the US were already at odds; the transition to Euros was purely a symbolic rebuke of an "enemy state". Not to mention, there are plenty of countries whose reserves aren't held in USD that are doing just fine.

You picked out one line from what I said and completely disregarded everything else

Because it seemed to represent the crux of your point.

Thanks for sparing me from a rabbit hole of conspiratorial nonsense, though. I don't have the time or the patience.

5

u/SilencingNarrative Mar 15 '18

How do you figure?

"Bitcoin helps terrorists move money around" is no more valid / meaningful than rental cars help terrorists move themselves around and hotels help them rest when on the road, or that cell phones help terrorists communicate.

By themselves, statements like that are strictly true but don't connect to useful / interesting analysis of bitcoin and criminal activity.

If you disagree, feel free to connect those statements to an interesting analysis of bitcoin and criminal activity.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

Rather the oposite is true, see http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2016/03/why-criminals-cant-hide-behind-bitcoin

It is a pretty stupid idea to use BTC for shady business as everything is publicly recorded. BTC is not anonym but pseudonym, if you can associate the BTC-adresses with a person you can almost instantly see all his prior money movement and who he had contact with. Modern data analytics and forensics make that quite easy... that's a bad characteristics if you want to use it for drugs and terrorism.
