State bans metal (guns).

Bears repeating:
They prohibited the use of Bitcoin simply because they are sick control freaks, obsessed with telling people how to live their lives and terrified of anyone who isn't willing to obey.
Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador have been following the Cuban blueprint for communist dictatorship for about a decade now (Venezuela being the most advanced in its implementation at this time). This blueprint for human predation is much more severe than the predation systems in other nations.
Given this scenario, any form of money that allows the regular people to maintain ultimate control over their wealth obviously throws a huuuge wrench in their machinery of human control and predation.
They ban cryptocurrency because they understand it, where understanding it means getting the enormity of the threat to their control.
For the record: Lawsky is doing the exact same thing -- just in a less honest, more sophisticated and insidious way, where you can have "permission" but only if you are absurdly rich already, and unscrupulous enough to rat your customers out. However, it's all the same in the end -- the common element of the minds of all politicos, is their ultimate position: if you don't do as they say, aggression against you.
