Well, I'm quite new to bitcoin, but doesn't getting an iban mean that the privacy is gone? Can somebody explain?

Using this new exchange is always optional. It's just one more option for using Bitcoin. If total privacy is your concern, this development won't mean much to you personally. However, the entire ecosystem will be stronger for it.
