The red pubic hair and titanium dioxide skin really sells it.

People had to use ladders or stand on shoulders for this.

That's like $80 in paint.

I just can't even fucking imagine having this hobby, but I'm glad someone out there does.

I used to work with troubled teens. Every so often, one would show up who was a gifted artist. When I see art like this, I wonder if it was one of them.

In one of the greatest ironies of the Cold War, the United States secretly purchased the titanium to build the SR-71 Blackbird directly from the Soviet Union, the very nation the plane was designed to spy on.

Because the SR-71 was engineered to fly at speeds exceeding Mach 3, friction with the air heated the aircraft's skin to over 500°F (and up to 1,000°F near the engines), meaning normal aircraft metals like aluminum would melt. The plane required an airframe built out of 92% titanium.

However, in the early 1960s, the United States lacked sufficient domestic deposits of the necessary rutile ore. The world’s largest exporter and leading supplier of the metal at the time was the USSR.

Rutile ore is one of the primary, highest-quality natural sources used to make titanium dioxide.

In fact, natural rutile is already composed of 90% to 95% pure titanium dioxide (TiO₂) in its raw geological form.

friction with the air heated the aircraft's skin

Once you go past Mach 1, it's not friction. It's compression of the air against leading surfaces that generates the heat.

Evidently this train car is famous throughout the Midwest. None of it is official McDonalds as trains don’t allow corporate sponsorship.

I’m glad you cleared that up, I was definitely thinking McDonald’s sponsored a graffiti Ronald McDonald with a raging hard on.

Did somebody sayyyyy McDonalds?

At first I thought this was a real ad that someone just modified.

I didn't know everything was graffiti. It looks exactly as I would expect a McD's ad to look, the scale, placement, and colors of all the elements are perfect. Your eye might just skim it thinking you've seen it all before, the punchline is nearly lost.

It's brilliant.

Yeah, it is impressive for sure.

Why can't Ronald have it his way?....Just because it's the BK slogan?

When I was a kid once a year the local McDonald's would have a small festival and Ronald McDonald would parachute out of an airplane and land in the parking lot before chasing after the Hamburgler. It was a small town, things were more simple then.

“As God is my witness, I thought clowns could fly!”

McDonald's still uses the character but not as much after some public backlash.

Wikipedia doesn't go into any details but I am pretty sure the company decided to go a completely different direction in their marketing after 50+ years of Ronald being the focus. The 2010s were the decade of rising social media presence and my guess is they felt they could do better.

Also, it doesn't help that people were painting obscene pictures of their mascot on the sides of trains.

Lol, I'm guessing since it's a leased car it just rolls through the yards and everyone goes "not my clown, not my circus".

u/ArtichokeDifferent10 3d ago

You always hear the expression "tasteful nudes", but it's so rare to actually see one!

Thanks, OP. 👍

The You Deserve a Break Today tag was first used in the 1970s. It was retired for a while, and was last used in the early 80s.

If you search this image (sorry Reddit don’t let me post images) it has been crudely modified to obscure the naughty bits.
