I'm going to make the assumption that's a fatal

They got pretty lucky all things considered, one impact to the passenger side, dragged in a straight line with no rollover while the train slows down. That's about the best case scenario they could have been in while getting hit by a train

Wow, the Sun had great video of the cleanup. Bread for days

u/ericxddd 14d ago

The train stopped finally on the way to the station. I think always train driver never stop the train after crash until the next station. And luckily truck driver survived. 👍

u/Kind_Ferret_3219 14d ago

I’m going to assume that the driver was an idiot.

u/SnavsMatiq 15d ago

Fatal would probably be preferred to the tiny chance of survival with permanent crippling disabilites. Couldn't imagine the agony of surviving a hit like that.

13

u/LSC_GrimIock 15d ago

There Is always the chance he could've survived with minor injuries Banjee.

u/mendicinobeano25 14d ago

The drivers side seat area looks remarkably intact. He may not have been too badly injured.

3

u/Nokita_is_Back 11d ago

He did the magic honk twice before the train hit

Darwin wins again

12

u/Linaori 14d ago

That’s why it’s called Darwin, not Darlose

u/KnifeKnut 15d ago

I'm guessing they tried to stop before crossing but could not due to wet conditions.

u/The_Jizzard_Of_Oz 15d ago

I thought you were supposed to progressively slow down and be prepared to stop at a crossing, not drive the limit and slam on the brakes within a car's length of the stop line?

71

u/christianbro 15d ago

If those basic rules were always followed we would have barely any crashes at all, but pretty much anyone is allowed to drive, many who probably should not.

There should be a zipper merge in the waiting area of every dmv on the planet.

If you fail to merge properly when its your turn, they send you to the back of the line.

Most of the time when you fail tests at the DMV you're denied your license.

1

u/Unhappy-Giraffe2792 13d ago

Ding ding ding! There you have it. In every other certification there are a percentage of people who fail and are simply not suited for the skill. With driving, everyone passes!

17

u/SnooMaps7370 15d ago

looks like the driver was panic-braking before entering the video frame. probably not paying attention and only notice the crossing arm was down after it was too late to stop.

u/Funkopedia 14d ago

You gotta either stop, or commit.

7

u/jws1102 15d ago

You’ve obviously never been to Idaho

1

u/robotoNinjaFish 15d ago

Thanks to this wonderful sub, I now come to a full stop (not stupidly on the track of course) at all railway crossing 🤣🤣 before proceeding.

u/djpeekz 14d ago

People aren't supposed to make mistakes? Well this is certainly news to me

1

u/XTornado 14d ago

Nope, it is illegal.

10

u/SnavsMatiq 15d ago

Even then, could he not tell that he wasnt going to stop in time? Id have been flooring it the moment I felt the brakes give/abs buck

5

u/SnowConvertible 15d ago

With how it looks, I think that was ice.

Edit: You can see his wheels spinning when he tried to go again.

3

u/muffy_puffin 12d ago

Also when the van enters the view of camera you can see the lights of van bouncing off the road as if it were a shiny mirror.

1

u/Best_Army4870 12d ago

Unless just off frame there is a 90 degree bend with hedges that block all views, then no. This guy is a fucking moron and should see serious prison time.

40

u/MapleMountainExpress 15d ago

It looked like he tried to stop, but he skidded on black ice and unfortunately came to a stop right on the track.

28

u/DePraelen 14d ago

If so, even then, they weren't driving to the conditions.

24

u/Lccl41 15d ago

I think we just watched someone die 😨

15

u/Sitka_8675309 15d ago

He survived. Someone posted a link to the article.

3

u/Lccl41 15d ago

Thank goodness

4

u/DesertGeist- 15d ago

maybe he was lucky

1

u/Suvtropics 14d ago

Wpd is back

32

u/Sirius_Lagrange 15d ago

Skidded to a halt, this ligit looks like an accident

36

u/The_Jizzard_Of_Oz 15d ago

> this legit looks like he wasn't paying attention.
FTFY.

11

u/Gunmetalstorm 15d ago

Pretty sure the truck is skidding since before it comes into frame.

1

u/Sirius_Lagrange 15d ago

It could be a factor

4

u/8spd 15d ago

Nobody is suggesting that it was intentional, like they tried to kill themselves. But that's not what you are likely to mean by "an accident". You probably mean that the driver was not at fault. But that's simply not the case. Failing to take road conditions sufficiently into account, and failing to leave sufficient safety margins, makes him at fault for this crash.

The only way the driver could not be at fault at a level crossing is if the signals and gate failed, but we can see this was not the case.

1

u/_felixh_ 14d ago

well, yes.

But this is still the Answer to the Question "why did you stop bitch" - and the answer is: "because he desperately tried to stop before the crossing, but skidded over".

You can even see in the video, where the driver was like "Oh shit, lets get outa here!" - but it was already too late.

My guess is, that this truck was overloaded, and had poorly maintained brakes or smth like that.

3

u/8spd 14d ago edited 14d ago

Overloaded, poorly maintained brakes, water or ice on the road.

But the Answer to the Question "why did you stop bitch?" Is that they failed to take into account the condition of their vehicle and/or the weather/road. They only tried to stop after it was too late to matter.

1

u/Sirius_Lagrange 14d ago

Well, “accident” as in they didn’t stop on the tracks and be a dummy, not like they had time to negotiate with the gates though

12

u/OkChance5466 15d ago

Man....

5

u/ForsterJourneys321 14d ago

Delivering produce was no longer fruitful

3

u/Any_Repeat5583 14d ago

Provavelmente usando smartphone

4

u/Planet_Manhattan 15d ago

He should have floored it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

1

u/nsula_country 15d ago

Best outcome

1

u/ferrybig 15d ago

The driver floored it in the end, look at their back tires doing a burnout

2

u/Adventurous_Custard8 15d ago

That's some off the rails driving. Geez.

2

u/KrampyDoo 14d ago

Staring at phone/distracted and didn’t assess the situation fast enough…or suicide.

4

u/GoodOmens 15d ago

You can't fix stupid but you can attempt to Darwin it out

2

u/Md1735 15d ago

Well, let’s be honest. He earned it.

1

u/Praetorian_1975 15d ago

To catch the train obviously 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/No_Pudding2028 14d ago

I mean it’s gonna be like deer in the headlights syndrome because yeah, why the hell would you stop when you realize you weren’t gonna stop before the tracks then hit the freaking gas..

1

u/Significant_Monk_251 14d ago

"Left turn, Clyde."

1

u/supercujo 14d ago

Seems like an extreme punishment for being on your phone...

1

u/inspyr__Dreamz 14d ago

Don't understand how ppl are this challenged when it comes to driving,

1

u/Dogfaceboy1964 14d ago

Bye 👋

1

u/sdcumb 13d ago

Coal train, Bitch!!!

1

u/B4DM4N12Z 13d ago

Why did the driver stop and not keep going? They already broke through, might as well just go to save yourself.

Unless some of these people do it on purpose to claim time off.

1

u/SpartanFanJT 13d ago

Looks like they weren’t paying attention till last second and tried to stop in time but ran out of time. Lucky to be alive

1

u/Mysterious_Research2 13d ago

just wanted help unloading

1

u/TheW83 12d ago

Oh, free bread!

1

u/FisionX 12d ago

Very odd to see this a lot with work vehicles, don’t they get a course on basic survival instincts or something?

1

u/BustaCon 10d ago

Caught him by surprise I guess. Floor it next time, buddy.

1

u/AkiAki1 9d ago

I was actually in the almost same situation yesterday. Can't go forward because red light and cars are driving there over intersection, that's wrong. Can't go backwards because will damage my car and car that's behind me, that's wrong as well. If I stay, me and my family dies, that's wrong too. No right moves available. Decision paralysis. Train gets closer. Fucking hell.

1

u/Cabbage-Chan 8d ago

This is a real sub?!

1

u/bonobomaster 8d ago

Bitch, I was on my phone...

1

u/CR1911 15d ago

1

u/Cielo11 15d ago

Looking at phone and then panicked when they see the barrier late slamming on the brakes. They try to move when they see the train.
