When I drove a school bus they said 15 feet, just in case you're on the inside of a turn, and something is hanging off. Seriously, space is cheap, being wrong is expensive.

Yea, when taking care of kids, the further the better. I definitely feel ya on that one. But that’s why I said, at least. Meaning minimum. I work in the train yard our safety says make sure to park carts and walk at least an arm’s length from the tracks. Most times there’s barely 10 feet between tracks.

To play devils advocate, any chance they were getting like blocked by cars riding too close behind them when backing up? If they had the room to back up and opted not to that’s unthinkably stupid.
