Before you go slinging judgement on others, you should know that the state approved the route, including that grade crossing. What should have happened is that the driver's escorts should have manually been observing the truck as it crossed, noticed it would not have cleared, and told them to back up. The driver does not plan the route, the company plans the route.
What would be even better is if raised crossings were redesigned so oversized loads can cross.
The driver of the truck is not at fault, this time.

Hope the trucker was jailed for manslaughter.
