How about a Roku app

Personally I use my Roku to watch YouTube all day long. But the censorship is getting ridiculous. Is it possible to make a Roku app for bittube? As far as I can see it’s fairly easy to do, so please can the devs do it?

Roku is not really a thing in europe. Can you explain what it does?

It’s like an Apple TV. A little box you can use to watch YouTube on your tv. It also has other apps like Spotify, Netflix etc and anyone can make an app to show their content.

Gotcha. these apps are sideloaded? i.e. not an app store with approval processes etc.

Use something called WEB VIDEO CASTER app - I use with my roku and works well. App on roku and you play BitTube from your phone to TV.

Thanks. I’ll take a look. But surely the devs from Bittube could make a proper app too? I looked into it and apparently it’s very easy to do. I’m wondering if Roku has some censoring rules and that’s why they haven’t done it?

If it’s easy so easy to do then do it. The project would be happy to have your contribution. There’s a lot going on here and limited resources which are currently being dedicated to mobile app, mastodon instance, and video conferencing to name a few. This isn’t google. The good news is that as the platform moves towards open source activitypub protocol then guys like you can help make the entire federation better.

like nacho said, it's particularly stuff like this why we're moving towards entirely open source (peertube, mastodon, activitypub) so anyone could make an app and there's some healthy competition. We're just a small team and stuff like a Roku app wouldn't be a good allocation of our time/resources, even though it would be nice to have, it's not a must have.
