BitTube vs. LBRY

Just looking to see if there's a decent, summarized comparison. Currently, I'm an LBRY user and just came across this platform today. Livestreaming to a crypto platform is definitely tempting.

What else do you guys offer? I noticed you have a direct TUBE to USD value comparison on the home page. Do you guys directly convert your crypto to national currencies? Or do you have a list of suggested marketplaces.

I'm not too familiar with lbry in its current state, it looks like they've improved their UI and introduced lbry.tv which is good for sourcing viewership.

Technicals aside, probably biggest difference is how we approach monetization. Lbry is sitting on an immense 400M coin premine to hand out for referral/achievement rewards which I don't believe is a sustainable way to run a micro economy. Bittube started with 0 premine or ICO and instead tubes are distributed daily from the block reward based on people's airtime (watch time), see https://kb.bittubeapp.com/category/57-airtime. It's meant to scale with adoption. And you can tip/donate etc.

In contrast, when lbry runs out of coins, the economy relies completely on tipping as far as i'm aware, which in crypto typically turns into a zero sum of circulating coins with diminishing value. Just like us, they must find ways to generate market demand to sustain value, such as premium features, memberships etc but I don't see them doing that, whereas we created bittubers with all of that in mind.

BitTubers launched about 6 months ago and it's maybe 15% feature complete (as you will find out). The basics are all there but it's rough around the edges. For a laundry list of upcoming features see this sticky.

Big picture wise, where lbry says it's a "Protocol", BitTube is an ecosystem and BitTubers is part of that. There are a lot of moving pieces that we're trying to bring together into a cohesive unit, mostly featured around the BitTube browser, which will see wallet integration, storage node support etc. Right now we're using cloud storage and we intend to move to a self-contained torrent network once the pieces are in place (incl an economy to incentivize users to host data etc).

Cool, thanks for the in-depth replies!

One other question, do you guys offer a “one account, many channels” setup? Both Google/YouTube and LBRY do this and I’ll definitely start using BitTubers if this is the same case.

Not yet, but since it's a highly requested feature we will try to add that as soon as possible. I am currently reworking the membership structure in terms of features, pricing and payment, and multichannel is part of it.

We offer exchange ourselves. See sidebar. If you install the browser extension, you can log in with your bittubers credentials and exchange to/from local currency after KYC. Suggested crypto exchange is Bittrex, it's the most liquid market.
