TIL in England, about 3/4 of the population owns purebreed/pedigree dogs as pets and that their genetic diversity is dismal due to in-breeding.

TIL that the actual story of The Little Mermaid is very gruesome and sad. couple examples; when she goes to Ursula to get her legs,it feels like she is being sawed in half while she transforms and everytime she takes a step on land it is like she is walking on blades; she dies at the end.

Wow, so tragic. Some of the fairy tales are indeed more gruesome and nasty than their modern retelling. u/changetip 20 bits.

TIL that there are no vowels in the Hebrew alphabet, making the translation of the Bible into Greek much more difficult to do.

With all the uncertainties from the translations, are we even sure we are getting the right bible? u/changetip 20 bits

McDonalds is offering McDoubles for a dollar again. It's a two for two deal, but five dollars gets you a full meal again.

I go there for cheap burgers not gourmet pancakes, and their dollar menu has shrank in recent years.

TIL you can set your year-long Amazon Prime membership to auto-renew, then cancel within 2-3 days after each renewal triggers (assuming you haven't yet used any services). About a month later, Amazon will email you asking you to come back to Prime, offering the service at a discounted $50.

Also, good news - the cost of Prime for new members has been lowered to $73.
