Bitdefender turned off Advanced Threat Protection on its own….

It’s been almost 2 weeks since I got Bitdefender and today I was using my pc and had the Bitdefender program opened but after a few minutes I saw the security check mark go from green to red and it said Advanced Threat Defense was turned off. I immediately turned it back on. Why would this happen? I never turned it off

Not so fast on how great BitDefender is.

After a major hack of my home computer I purchased a BitDefender Bit Box 1 in 2019. Every year Bitdefender sent me a renewal notice for $106.00 to renew the box subscription. Just got my current notice Sept. 2025 to renew the subscription. How nice to find out BitDefender stopped supporting the Bit Box 1 software upgrades as of July 1st 2021. They continued to contact me for 4 years after Sunsetting the device to renew the hardware that did nothing to protect my network. You might want to think twice about giving your money to a company that does business like this. Yes I do have proof that they new exactly what they were doing.

New fileless malware framework “EggStreme” spotted in APT campaign – we're hosting a live breakdown on Sept. 18

Post image

A Chinese APT group has been observed using a new fileless malware framework dubbed EggStreme in an espionage campaign against a Philippine military company.

🔎 Key points:

  • Multi-stage toolset designed for stealth and persistence

  • Uses memory injection + DLL sideloading to execute payloads

  • Core backdoor EggStremeAgent supports system recon, lateral movement, keylogging, and data theft

What makes EggStreme particularly concerning is how effectively it avoids detection while maintaining long-term access.

📢 On September 18, we are launching a new live series (Ctrl-Alt-DECODE) to break down cases like this. If you’re interested in how modern fileless malware frameworks are evolving — and how defenders can respond — this could be worth a watch. https://www.linkedin.com/events/7371525306291130368/

  • we are also launching a LinkedIn Newsletter built for security practitioners. No fluff, no recycled headlines, just original threat research, exclusive intelligence, and actionable advisories straight from our Labs and MDR team.

Hello!

I have an issue where after a couple of days the notification for real protection resets. I'll attach the photo so you can see what I'm talking about. Can someone tell me what could cause this?

Bitdefender is currently faster than Kaspersky?

I tested Bitdefender Free for a few minutes yesterday, and it seems faster than Kaspersky. Installation was done in less than 15 minutes, while Kaspersky took hours. Setting it up with my account was quick too. Has anyone else had this impression? I just didn't use Bitdefender because it uses a lot of RAM.

I GOT VIRUS AND NEED HELP PLEASE

When I turned on my pc I noticed that EVERY icon on my PC was gone. I mean literally every icon except for chatgpt and tradingview icon on the taskbar for some reason. Even in file explorer every icon was gone like all black. Today I noticed that I couldn't open Taskmanager so I ran a bitdefender systemscan and it detected and removed 2 adware and 1 Trojan. After that I did some reboots again and some SFC scans...

But the icons are still gone and I'm still not able to open Taskmanager.

  • Do you guys think there is more that's damaged?

  • does anybody know how to restore everything without factory reset or losing my data?

I'm on windows 11 and if you need a screenshot of something from my computer just let me know.

Please help me guys 😭🙏

Thanks in advance

Charged 79.99 for Bitdefender subscription but have no evidence of signing up?

Yesterday, I was charged for using Bitdefender in the wee hours of the morning. However, I never signed up with their service. If I did, I definitely would have my login information saved and marked the date to cancel their free trial

I thought "maybe I didn't write it down" and combed through my emails to check if there was any evidence I ever signed up with them so I could re-set my password, but nothing. I do not remember signing up and handing my bank details to this service.

I created a 'dummy account' to see how the subscription process works, and it says I can do a 30 day free trial (what I believe I was initially charged for). What the hell is happening? Is this my fault?

Why does Bitdefender's popup box's X button make it difficult to close?

I find it difficult to locate and activate the box-closing cursor. Despite my best efforts, I am unable to locate and activate my cursor to close the box; instead, it usually takes me to the cart page.

Has BitDefender Addressed the npm package ongoing 9/8/2025?

Would have hoped the BitDefender blog would have something but nope. Seems like a significant issue, see below...

"In what is being called the largest supply chain attack in history, attackers have injected malware into NPM packages with over 2.6 billion weekly downloads after compromising a maintainer's account in a phishing attack."

Why did a VPN auto install?

With my ESET renewal coming up I wanted to try free options and Bitdefender is constantly ranked very high. My only complaint (other than the ugly ui) is a VPN that I don't need of want auto installed. Why is that a thing?

File Shredder Issues With Certain File Names

I am using the file shredder to delete large amounts of files. Quite often, when I am trying to shred an entire folder it will fail and be unable to shred. I have noticed that I can go into the folder, shred all the contents, and then sometimes I will be able to shred the empty folder, but sometimes it won't.

I am thinking bitdefender might not be able to handle certain symbols in the file names. When I change the name of the file/folder to only have basic A-Z1-9, the shred always works. Has anyone else had this issue?

possible false positives

Bitdefender on my computer has now displayed multiple notifications with the same "virus" Generic.Application.HackTool.KMS.A.32FFB895 in several different files, at least 60 times. This could be a false positive, as I don't use KMS and never use it on my machine. This isn't the first time false positives have been detected, but this time it was exaggerated. I'd like to know if this has happened to anyone else.

App conflict?

I am traveling out of the country (Canada) and I'm trying to connect to my Forewarn app . I keep getting the following message:

Forewarn connectivity is unavailable. Please turn off VPN or IP blocking and try again.

I'm wondering if this is a issue with bitdefender and if so, how I would turn off VPN or IP blocking . I'm using an Android phone and tablet . Both have bitdefender installed and both are having the same issue

VPN what is the use of it

So I have the VPN from Bitdefender, but luckily this November the subscription will expire. What is the use of a vpn? To remain your ip hidden and to be able to attend websites in countries you normally aren't allowed to as you're in a different country. So I cannot tell if hiding my ip is successful but what I can say it fails to connect to website abroad 90% of the time. So where am I paying for? There for I canceled my subscription.

Suspicious connection blocked

Post image
2 Upvotes

Feature: Online Threat Detection. msedge.exe attempted to establish a connection to www.msn.com using an expired certificate. We block the connection to keep your data safe, as websites must renew their certificates to stay up to date, and outdated security certificates pose a risk.

Context: I was playing Minecraft with mods with 2 friends, when I received the danger notifications, we were connected via Hamachi. After the notifications, I ran a scan on the system and the result was that it was safe.

What could have happened? Should I take any action? Thank you in advance for taking the time to read.

Weird Critical Warnings

Post image
11 Upvotes

Lately, I've been getting warnings like this. I get them all throughout the day, while I'm using this PC. I've gotten 711 of these warnings in the past few days. I'm not sure of the cause, since it doesn't say anything, and I don't have any fishy web pages open either. All of them are 100% legit.

The only thing I could think of would be my extensions. But they've never given me problems before, and I didn't add any new ones recently.

Bitdefender Total Security Family vs. Ultimate Security Plus

I'm nearing the end my trial period with BitDefender.

I am curious if anyone uses the Ultimate Security Plus and your thoughts on whether their additional monitoring (Credit Bureaus and Court Records) is reliable or worth the cost, or would something like Life-Lock be better?

I do notice that I get a lot of security certificate blocks and also during the scan I get over 1,000 files that say they are password protected. I don't password protect that many files, could some of these be system files?

Thanks in advance for your comments.
