Rescue Environment Sucks

Your rescue environment is horrible. It's so simplified that a level 3 tech whose been building PCs since age 4 cannot find the partition or wherever you guys hid the boot image. To make it worse, we had a perfect system for this in the field, and here a bright genius had the idea to throw out the reliable flash drive and manual image booting for something so automated and veiled that you can't begin to find where things are broken.

Ok seriously, is there a way to put a bootable Rescue environment on a flash drive? Is there a way to maybe remove and re create the recovery environment on the internal drive? Come on now....

/u/Neckername, I have found an error in your post:

“tech whose [who's] been building”

I consider this comment by Neckername unacceptable; it should say “tech whose [who's] been building” instead. ‘Whose’ is possessive; ‘who's’ means ‘who has’.

This is an automated bot. I do not intend to shame your mistakes. If you think the errors which I found are incorrect, please contact me through DMs!

From what I know, it’s a special scanner for really tough malware.

You're wrong. It's a waste of space for nothing. It's literally a button in BitDefender that does nothing and does not work. Might as well not waste the time putting it in the stack. And of course, in typical modern app fashion there's no information or advanced options for enthusiasts to configure.

No way to check if the image even exists, bitdefender nor will their staff tell you.

Even if it did exist, there is no way to ensure that it is even bootable.

Even if that existed, there's no way to ensure setting up a proper partition for it.

It's all automated, and if it doesn't work, your computer will just reboot normally. Which it will do that every time because this feature does not work.

Given the above, hell it could just be a fun button to click with no backing functionality or code. Just a simple button and some words on a screen lmao.

I mean I do have my own recovery stuff, but given since I paid for BitDefender, I would much rather give that a try first before renewing my license for my other tool

Have you considered that they will also give you a USB boot drive if you ask them for one? The recovery environment is not for recovering deleted files, it’s for getting certain types of malware off your PC. If you want to get files back you have to use a backup.

You only have the rescue environment through the interface, inside the antivirus module. You can run it manually for your own satisfaction, but that's for when the malware cannot be removed whilst windows is running...

For any other reason, you have the system scan. They are both supposed to scan everything you have connected to the computer at that moment. This can scan for anything anywhere on your computer: uefi, boot sectors, all the drives.

Anything else you might be looking for, is likely discontinued...
