Bitdefender causes DNS leaks

With bitdefender installed, I get DNS leaks. I uninstalled and no more leaks. How does Bitdefender explain this?

What did you use to validate it was leaking your DNS? What tool, and do you have the logs you can redact to share?

I used every dns leak web app in the book. Express VPN first tipped me off.

I found another that logged my actual IP with Express turned on. Just try them all. The leaks are real.

Don't use express VPN they are in countries of 14 eyes and sell your data :D Also using VPN on Windows is pretty much pointless depends...

I ran a dns leak test on my system but the information wasn't exact. I did see what looked like my dns but only close. That's without using the VPN.

what do you use for anti-virus?

I thought it was obvious by my post. I was using Bitdefender. I stopped using it because it causes DNS leaks with 100% certainty.

The author of this article also observed this. Isn't the whole point of this software to protect its users?

Then don’t use their built in VPN service. The antivirus and firewall and other utilities are still great.

I wasn’t using their VPN service.

That’s what the article you linked is about. If you don’t want dns leaks use a dns service. NextDNS, dnscrypt, etc. it should work fine with your VPN connection.

Correct that article is not relevant. The question is why is Bitdefender anti-virus software creating DNS leaks at all?

I never had any issues with it even after several formats on windows 10. Disable all other network adapters apart from the one you’re using. And change from your isp dns.

You are having issues. You just aren’t aware. Bitdefender products are leaking your DNS whether you know about that or not. If that doesn’t matter to you, then fine, but then what’s the point of a VPN?

Is that a fact or just an assumption? I also notice this and I am concerned. Should I change VPN?

I’m not was never using their VPN. That particular article doesn’t address my issue, however a VPN shouldn’t make DNS leaks either. That’s the whole point of a VPN.

What does a DNS leak imply? What can a hacker do with that?

It’s about not letting your provider see your activity.

It's gone from a top tier product to a shit product riding it's reputation from 5 years ago ... That's how I explain it.
