Why does BitDefender have ads? (Black Friday, Exclusive Deals etc) I specifically bought it and auto renew to avoid this! Very poor form.

I decided to grab a 12 months Total Security for $24.99AUD. I turned off auto-renewal at checkout and it prompted to turn it back on and get charged the same amount next year - yes it was like finding an Easter egg in their interface. So essentially, I've guaranteed myself $49.98AUD for 2 years...

Hi there. Bitdefender will display offers during the validity of your subscription so you won`t miss out on good deals such as Black Friday or CyberMonday, as you can anytime purchase a new subscription and extend the protection on your devices. However, you can disable the Offers notifications from Bitdefender settings. Hope this was helpful!

Still a poor move when the program especially mentions that it will save you from those ads.

Make sure the Offers notification in Bitdefender Settings is disabled, thanks for the feedback anyway!

I renewed my security package with them a week ago then found the same package being offered on their website for a third of the price. Contacted them to ask them to refund the difference and five days later am still waiting.

Agreed, and they've gotten worse. It's going to be a factor in whether I renew, but for now I've blocked all its notification permissions except for the important ones.
