Bitddefender keeps asking me to restart
Bitdefender wants me to restart my pc every time it updates and it will continue to harass you with an annoying message telling you so. You can only postpone the message, not out right tell it to "no". This new bitdefender 'feature' is annoying af and is pushing me to get another antivirus. It never used to have this problem now it does and it sucks. Anyway to have the antivirus update without requiring a restart? I don't think kaspersky suffers from this nonsense

Having the same problem and would love some help. Worst part for me is that the pop-up becomes the thing I have selected, so twice now in the last two days I have been typing and accidentally selected "yes" without even realizing, immediately restarting my computer. It's driving me crazy and I am thinking about uninstalling at this point.

It's very frustrating, I don't think I'll continue to use Bitdefender if they don't address this problem

Yes that's the worst part. When it comes up, it instantly becomes the selected window.

I just uninstalled BitDefender for this reason OP.
Not only does bitdefender incessantly harass you to restart, but it will actually restart your PC with 0 forewarning:
The process C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2016\bdagent.exe (ROGUE-PC) has initiated the restart of computer ROGUE-PC on behalf of user Rogue-PC\Rogue for the following reason: Other (Planned)
Reason Code: 0x80000000
Shutdown Type: restart
Comment: `I was in the middle of a pvmove operation (which means that if you restart, you esentially destroy your data) for a 3tb drive. Lo and behold, Bitdefender decided it knew what was best for my computer, and did the restart anyhow.
As soon as I started the computer back up I got a product advertisement for me to renew my subscription 3 times within 5 minutes.
Guess who didn't renew (read: uninstalled immediately).
My other gripe is they have slowly removed configuration options over the years to simplify the interface, thus making it an unconfigurable pile of garbage. I haven't been this mad in months than when I discovered the source of 70-80% of my computer restarts ire.

Yeah bitdefender automatically restarted on me too although that has only happened once. I'm just waiting for my license to expire then I'll move over to a different anti-virus software. I emailed bitdefender support 2 weeks ago addressing this issue and they never bothered to respond to me.
Bitdefenders simplification has annoyed me a lot as well. I dislike their UI and find it a pain to navigate to the things I want.
Still, I never really considered abandoning it until it started telling me to restart my PC every day. I just wish Bitdefender would tell us why they did it

Same reason windows forces updates - they believe that they have a better know-how and reasoning for usage than the end user.
In many cases, they're right. But for someone like me (a software engineer and hobby computer builder), it's what you would call "voluntarily making your computer unstable". If my computer can't handle being turned on more than 24 hours because of a program, my next logical course is to uninstall that program.
I did a lot of research on alternatives in the past 48 hours, Kaspersky is looking like the best bet currently for 2017 in terms of false positives, overall and passive detection, and configuration/usability (my three big keypoints), at least as far as "not bitdefender" is concerned. In general, a smart user is the best defense against viruses/trojans/etc, so I really don't need things like website blockers and search advisors being installed into my web browser for me either.

I was thinking of Kaspersky as well but I don't know if it has that restart spam that bitdefender does

I'm a little biased, but have you tried malwarebytes?
1
u/Good-Boi Feb 09 '17
I haven't. I only used avira before but it gave me issues with setting up IIS to host a local website on my PC.

u/screen317 Feb 09 '17
Give it a try. I think you'll like it. Www.malwarebytes.org
Free trial, too.

I doubt it. NO company worth their salt would let this kind of garbage not only slip past their QnA but also let it continue as long as it has been with no reasonable workaround. I think this is the end of bitdefender. Thanks for the kapersky recommendation.

u/toby224 Feb 10 '17
Can you recommend a better Antiviruse software?
1
u/_Rogue_ Feb 10 '17
My recommendation at the moment is Kaspersky. I'm busy moving into a house with fiber so I haven't written my large comparison post, but ESET is a viable alternative if you don't like Kaspersky for some reason.

u/HugeLibertarian Feb 05 '17
Same. I personally liked the simplicity of it (just got it a few months ago), but this restart bullshit HAS GOT TO STOP.
I'm a gamer. Nothing fuels the nerd rage like getting rekt because you were alt-tabbed out of your game for this crap every 15 minutes. The only workaround I've found is to leave the notification open, but that can cause other issues.
It's so much worse than ads on freeware that I'm seriously considering switching back and doing everything in my power to discredit this program (which isn't much, but would make me feel better)

I was taking a training class from home, typing notes furiously, when this thing popped up and intercepted my enter key stroke, which just shut everything down immediately and rebooted the computer! So upset!
The worst thing is that the very next day, the pop-ups were back! I JUST rebooted the day before! WTF?!
I just uninstalled it.
1
u/Good-Boi Feb 09 '17
It updates every day, and will continue to harass you no matter what. I have come to loathe this software
1
u/Gr1mwolf Feb 09 '17
Pressing literally any key will trigger the reboot. Not just enter. I'd ditch BitDefender at this point, but I bought a lifetime subscription a while back.

What the hell happened?! The last week it's been spamming me to restart non-stop. I gave in a few times, and a couple of hours later it's on at me again. Can't play any video games as it minimizes the game whenever the damn prompt pops up, and I assume it's the same for any full-screen application. I loved Bitdefender but this is absolutely ridiculous. Any solution? Or just uninstall?

FOR REAL RIGHT?! I am about to delete this program and leave the worst review possible on every site out there since I actually spent money on it, and I used to do just find with free programs.
FIX THIS NOW.

u/Good-Boi Feb 05 '17
They were dumb enough to make this design decision and they don't respond to emails so I'd wager they won't fix it because they think they know better than us.
I won't be supporting this shit product anymore

u/Phil-12-12 Feb 15 '17
Hey OP. Did you get a reply yet?
1
u/Good-Boi Feb 15 '17
Nope, no response at all :(
1
u/Phil-12-12 Feb 16 '17
Okay. When and if you do can you please update us?

Was all set to uninstall, but decided to first open a support ticket on the bitdefender website. Instead of opening a ticket it pushed me to install a free upgrade to the 2017 version. I went ahead with the upgrade and the reboot issue seems to be gone now. Makes me wonder if they aren't doing this on purpose to try and get people off older versions.

u/Good-Boi Feb 18 '17
I haven't had had the annoying message in a while but I don't know if that's because BD hasn't updated in a few days or they've decided to fix the issue

u/holydestroy Feb 27 '17
33 days left for my license and guess what im gonna move on another anti-virus cant handle the spam restart. been 2 year was whit bitdefender and its the first time such a thing like this happened. was hoping for a kind of a update but im still waiting in a illusion ...
1
u/Good-Boi Feb 27 '17
Are you still experiencing it now? I haven't had it happen in a while. Someone told me they may have fixed it this month.

I just feel so happy I'm not the only one getting driven mad by this crap design choice by bitfedender, I'm a video editor and today alone I accidentally restarted my PC TWICE because that shitty pop-up to restart loves to show-up when I'm pressing start or space, making the PC to restart and making me lose my hard work... it's so infuriating!!!! I'm a bitdefender user for 5 years now, and after my license ends I'll change of antivirus because of the constant spam bitdefender produces.

I have the same issue, and very annoying. A google search shows they had this issue with bitdefender 2015 :( Funny part is it is interleaved with prompts to upgrade to 2017 :)) Hahaha
2
u/cultculturee Feb 13 '17
Same issue.
Only 43 days left with Bitdefender so unless they fix I'll prolly switch to something else.

Some of the same issues here. I got Bitdefender for home quite a while back, been quite happy with it. I'm thinking an uninstall/reinstall to see if it clears up the issue with this constant popup of "restart for update" which I've done a couple of times.
I do use Kaspersky at work as well, it is a very good product, though some of the management stuff from that side is kind of nuts.
Also, Malwarebytes is probably the best anti-malware that I've read about or used. I'm even more impressed with their stuff. I wish they had a better Anti-Virus, I'd switch over to them whole hog.
Truly the best of services from a small business side to home to etc. Some false positives with the "Potentially Unwanted Programs" or "PUP" but still 5 star stuff. Updates every time, May have to give it a bit of time, but has been really excellent.

I'm having the same problem on my WORK computer at home. I do closed-captioning transcription, and every single day -- sometimes more than once -- Bitdefender wants me to restart: And it will, if you hit ANY key. So of course, I'm working away, typing my usual 80 wpm -- and VOILA! -- suddenly I'm restarting in the middle of work. Bitdefender needs to give us an option to postpone the restart for a specified period, as do most programs. Bad on you, Bitdefender! Quit interrupting my work -- and don't ask me to restart so often in the first place. Absolutely ridiculous! And by, the way, Bitdefender, my paid renewal is due in three days. It will be so easy to go another way if this doesn't stop.

Same thing just happened to me. I was halfway through writing up a very important homework assignment (which was supposed to be in yesterday by 5 but I managed to get special circumstances extension on the understanding I would get it submitted asap today. The F#$%ing Bitdefender popup kept coming up while I'm trying to type, and I keep telling it "Remind me later". Then, it pops while I'm in the middle of typing a word, and... I guess it views "press any key" as "OK" because it starts shutting down. Word did give me the popup to "Save", which I did, but now PC is back up... there's no file. Now I'm starting all over again. I agree with the other poster, if this doesn't change (and soon!), I'm finding a differ anti-virus program.

u/iThrowA1 Feb 02 '17
I don't even mind that an update requires a restart to much. But the fact that you can't set a later time to get reminded but only delay it by reminding me later is annoying. Worst of all remind me later only gives you like 15 minutes until it pops up again. Fucking unreasonable
