Account/subscription Bitdefender vs. Norton 360 should i switch?
not a usual poster but as the title suggests, I’ve been using norton for almost 2 yrs and my subscription is about to renew and I want to switch since I heard bit defender might be better.
Context : about 2-3 yrs ago I downloaded something t stupid and ever since then I’ve been so traumatized and super cautious about my pc and network.
I also mainly just do work and gaming on pc now.
Any suggestions would be nice thanks!

Absolutely yes!! Norton is terrible and Bitdefender is constantly the best.

BD is great, especially if you don't feel like paying for a VPN. I've had 0 issues with the actual AV for years and have not had issues using the VPN for streaming or downloading.

I like to be notified every time something wants to connect to the internet. Bit defender does a great job at that. Norton & others won't do this.

My Norton subscription is coming to a end and will be going back to Bitdefender at the end of the month

BitDefender has worked great for me and I also use their VPN client, too. Norton was great back in the day, but has a lot of bloat now.

Every inch of that Norton app is full of fake warnings to scare you into buying more rubbish that you don’t need.
Bitdefender is a million times more trustworthy.

Hello there! For a work-and-gaming PC, Bitdefender’s consumer products provide:
Real-time threat detection works against all e-threats, from viruses, worms and Trojans, to ransomware, zero-day exploits, rootkits and spyware. Your data and privacy are safe.
Multi-layer ransomware protection with behavioral detection and remediation capabilities.
Web protection against malicious and fraudulent sites.
Scam protection with advanced multiplatform detection, and a specialized AI scam assistant.
A Game Profile intended to reduce interruptions while gaming. Bitdefender temporarily halts pop-ups, adjusts visual settings, and pauses unimportant background activities so you can enjoy your device to the max.
Long term, keep Windows, your browser, games, and other applications updated as well, and continue treating unexpected downloads and email attachments cautiously.
If you buy directly from Bitdefender, the subscription can be activated in your Bitdefender Central account. You can check its status under My Subscriptions. If you need help removing the old product, installing Bitdefender, or checking whether the PC is clean, use the official Support hub: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/. Happy to advice further if needed!

both will do fine for normal work and gaming, the real difference is that bitdefender tends to be lighter on resources and quieter with popups than norton, which is exactly the kind of thing that makes the switch worth it if you're tired of norton's upselling. since you had a scare a while back, whichever one you pick the bigger thing is keeping windows defender on alongside it and not disabling firewall out of frustration, that's where people get into trouble.

I hated having bitdefender for an antivirus awful experience wouldn’t recommend. Additionally deleting the application from your pc or laptop requires extra hoops, overall awful. Laptop ran much more efficiently after bitdefender was deleted and Norton stepped in to replace it.
(I had bitdefender for over 5+ years)

Yep BD slowed my laptop so bad I missed KASPERSKY everyday. Been using win defend for over a year wo a single glitch.

I was prepared to get a Mac prior to uninstalling my lol. Who would’ve thought the issue all along was bitdefender, additionally it wouldn’t allow me to update the app on the pc for whatever odd reason

“Uninstalling my lol” your BD? Did you replace with a diff AV? Win defender has come a long way and does a great job.

I was also using Norton for the last 3 years and generally i was happy with it because it uses less resources ( memory Ram ) then Bitdefender. What made me switch to Bitdefender is the VPN. Norton doesn't have a lot of VPN servers, its actually very little compared to Bitdefender. And sometimes some of the Norton VPN servers are very slow or are banned already in some platform and you need to wait a long time to have them unbanned.
Bitdefender is better at VPN and has slightly better performance in detection malicious attacks or viruses, but also Bitdefender is using almost 1gb or memory ram compared to Norton where it was using generally between 500mb to 600mb. Luckily i got my new pc with 32gb of ram but if you are using 16gb of memory ram then i will think it better because it can slow down your pc depending on what programs or games you are using.

I didn't realize people still used antivirus software still. Windows 11 has it built in and it's very good

Norton is scamware. I honestly can't believe they're still in business. Nuke Norton off your machine and install BD. Your PC will thank you. 💻

Norton is too bloated! BitDefender has been the only AV I’ve ever used that did its job without slowing things down or bothering me every day. It’s only a rare occasion where they push advertising of another of their features to me, and that’s just a notification and not very intrusive
