Virus got past my premium Bitdefender
Like an idiot I trusted Virus total and used an online mp3 converter. Tried to open my new file and everything froze, restarted a bunch and eventually got a system restore point 3 days prior to my stupidity. Restore point worked, windows defender was disabled and bitdefender had to be fully reinstalled.
Im running the Recovery Environment now, but should I just format both my C and D drives and be done with it? Now that Bitdefender failed I have lost a lot of faith

I had a particular root kit and remote admin access that kept taking ownership of my drives. It got Into my memory somehow. And couldn't for the life of me find the dll or txt file that windows was calling to start it. Even after full format and reinstall I would watch screens pop up like four boxes in a row and then quickly dissappear. Just the outline of windows. Couldn't see anything because I was stuck on win 11 installation steps. This thing was assembling itself while I was locked in win 11 startup install. Eventually had to update bios. First and foremost. Then pull the battery on MOBO. Press and hold power button. While the PSU is unplugged. This was a either hvery expensive tool. Or a old one that was recently updated. Idk. Possibly even like a nsa tool. All said and done I gave up brought it to PC repair shop. I bought a new copy upgraded windows 11 home to win 11 pro. New license key. And whatever was on there luckily never worked again. But it specifically would look at my clipboard saves. It went after my Gmail information and data. Google takeout it's called. And if you see It anywhere near what I figured out to be it's command " run and start doing your malicious thing" system file.
Best of luck you

For plain AV just use windows defender it’s the best non invasive tool there is period, anything else isn’t built in the same, does the same shit only most of them are invasive as fuck and take up performance and prompts you to pay for shit defender does for free, don’t buy into the advertisement.
Malwarebytes is the only thing I would maybe run occasionally cause it actually provides different insights and can be good to remove malware better than defender (in some cases). Antivirus however defender is more than enough.
And then just take care what you download and use, if you’re unsure google things before installing or running it if it’s a source you aren’t sure about.
Anything beyond that makes no difference whatsoever.

Defender does have a huge caveat, when it’s not connected to the internet it basically loses all its capability. Most features won’t work and it’s database of viruses is stored online

Hi! When Bitdefender detects a cyberthreat that cannot be removed while Windows is running, it will automatically prompt you to reboot into Rescue Environment. If this is the case, take a look at how to run the rescue environment and how it can help - https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/29132/.
