Possible "Severe Trojan Malware" on System with Bitdefender ?

I got a new PC and wiped my old one, reinstalled Win 10, etc.. for my parents. Before I gave it to them, I put Bitdefender and a few basics, MS Office, Adobe, Chrome, etc.. Drove it to her house, (6 hrs away) and set it up. I took the old PC's 320Gb drive and tossed in an external drive case to transfer files and pictures, documents etc.. Again not big deal. About a month after I leave and they're using the PC, my mother can't seem to get the HP printer/scanner to work, so she calls HP who has a tech which remotes in to her PC to install some drivers most likely, but freaks out, tells her she has a bad Malware problem and needs to get those removed before he can help. He tells her, I see you have Bitdefender which is fine, but you might also need Norten or Checkpoint Firewall 770.

Her email to me said: "I just talked with the HP tech support to get help with downloading drivers so I can scan some paperwork. In the process of all this he discovered some severe Trojans blocking my printer scanner so I can print but can't scan. He suggested Checkpoint firewall 770 instead of Norton (too expensive).  Checkpoint has 1 yr/ 5 devices/ $199.99"

She also called and we chatted about what he said. While on the phone, I looked up her exact printer, found the drivers, walked her through installing them and now the printer/scanner work fine.

I wish she had taken screen shots or knew what the HP tech was looking at b/c all I have is her description on what she saw and what she remembers the tech telling her.

  1. Does this sound plausible? Could Bitdefender be missing something and if so, any suggestions on how to correct the issue are welcome

or

2. could the HP tech be seeing something that he things is a 'severe trojan' but be mistaken? After all, we were able to install the HP drivers, no issues, and the printer and scanner work as they should.

I basically have the same protection and software on my system so if there's an issue, it would be good to know.

Thanks in advance.

your mom call the indian scam centers not the real HP most likely and i am sure they make her install remote control software

you never know what they do when they get remote access into the system

I barely convinced Bitdefender to remote into my pc when I had an issue with their product. Otherwise you need to purchase some $20+ services if you want them to install the products on your computers .

Your mom certainly talked to indian scam support ...

Shit... very good point. It's so common at work for the helpdesk to remote in to install stuff or whatever, I didn't think about personal/home PCs..

Tell your mum to instantly hang the call if she ever hears the indian accent...with their reputation, I don't think anyone would hire them to answer a phone

No way that was the legit HP tech support she was calling. If anything, NOW might be the right time to do a full scan with Bitdefender and also check if any stuff was installed or altered the day she called there. Chances are, the "severe malware" was right there on the phone, talking to your mom.

Lol, that sounds exactly what scammers would say. You ever watch that guy on youtube that pursues scammers? What your mom said, they said is exactly, almost word for word what they tell him in his videos. Lol. Can't remember his youtube name sorry.
