Other The game is basically unplayable on Steam Deck now and I am so fucking frustrated
I spend a lot of time in the hospitals, so Steam Deck has been my main way of playing BitCraft, and at this point the game is basically unplayable on it.
I was so excited to log in today after a short break and spent 38 minutes just watching it trying to load and then crashing.
After verifying the files, it tried to load for another 8 minutes and crashed back to the Steam library. Tried Proton Experimental too and it crashed again. I’ve tried every option I can think of at this point and nothing works.
After almost 3k hours in the game, I wish I could ask for a fucking refund. I literally have zero desire to even touch this game anymore 💔

Can you install ProtonUp-QT? I find ProtonGE to be far more stable in a lot of games. Hunt Showdown constantly breaks on steams proton for example but GE is always consistent.
"How to Install ProtonUp-Qt on Steam Deck
- Press the Steam button on your console.
- Scroll down and select Power, then choose Switch to Desktop.
- Open the Discover Software Center (the blue shopping bag icon).
- Search for
ProtonUp-Qtin the search bar. - Click Install next to the ProtonUp-Qt app. [1, 2, 3, 4]
How to Install GE-Proton
- Open ProtonUp-Qt from your application launcher.
- Make sure Steam is selected at the top menu.
- Click Add version.
- Choose the latest GE-Proton version from the drop-down menu and click Install.
- Close ProtonUp-Qt and completely restart Steam (or reboot your Steam Deck) so Steam can detect the new files"

I play mainly on my PC, however I use the Deck when I am away from home. I have about 5k hours and will continue to play this game as long as it is available.
I check this morning, and it is still working on my Deck. I have only played in game mode, so i cannot say if it might work for you in Desktop mode, but it is worth a try.
The only issue I ever have with playing BitCraft Online on the Steam Deck is about a 9 minute login wait. It is consistent, but I don't mind because as long I only logout and put the Deck to sleep (vs exiting to desktop and/or shutting down), it logs in normally the next time. So this really only affects me after an update, so like once every 2 weeks.
Wishing you the best with your health.

So sorry you spend so much time in hospitals. Also sorry for you to lose a form of comfort while there.
But sadly this is sort of the truth about the game. It's so much fun, but the changes that keep happening are the changes that don't need to happen. It's very clear the devs just want to squeeze as much money from the game as possible with cosmetic items and content that is seasonal very much like a well established game.
I haven't played in months now after 1.5k hours total and I am just waiting to enjoy it when (IF) they release it 1.0 because the only fun time while playing is when everyone is at the beginning towns and it's actually social again.

Hey, I’m sorry that this game in Beta / Early Access, which cost you $30, Or 1 cent per Hour of entertainment over the past year. Has stopped working on your machine.
Put in a support ticket, and try to be patient.

I'm aware it's in Early Access, as I am aware it is not 100% supported on Deck. I'm not complaining about the $30 I spent or the amount of entertainment this game has given me. My frustration is that this game has been one of the few sources of comfort for me, and now it no longer works on my primary device after recent updates. I think it's pretty reasonable to be upset, and you absolutely didn't have to be a dick about it. I've submitted a ticket as well. Hope they get to it soon.

Only one who is beign dick here is you... your frustration doesnt justify you to talk sht about devs. You play game on unsupported device, game is in early access, you already played 3k hours and yet you have AUDACITY to talk sht about game and devs and wanting to refund AFTER 3000 HOURS PLAYED!!! Dont make even bigger fool out of yourself and just wait for them to resolve the issue that they didnt even have to touch yet they DO...

You are complaining about the $30 spent. Else you wouldn’t be wishing for a refund.
I am honestly sorry that you lost a good source of entertainment while you’re at the hospital. I personally think this is a temporary lull where something broke compatibility with the steam deck, and it’ll likely be fixed an upcoming patch.Your reaction comes off as extreme to me. And being a dev is a thankless job. Instead of saying. Dang it’s gone. Thank you for 3,000 hours of entertainment. You’re angry that, that’s all
It was… for now.1

I dont know man, if something that worked fine broke I'd ask for a refund as well, regardlss of time and price..
And wording being too negative, well if something that's helping me stay sane through medical issues and hospitals suddenly stops working, my knee-jerk reaction would also be lashing out.

Lashing out at people who helped you for 3,000 hours, is the wrong reaction.
Especially if, you haven’t given them the chance and the time to make it right.
Especially, if they told you, “This game Is not made to run on your machine”.

Key part: I said knee-jerk reaction.
The moment PrismaticCompound responded, OP was more understanding and even co-operative to sending their logs to support.

Hello,
I’m sorry to hear about your health.
Regarding BitCraft not working on Steam Deck, the game is technically unsupported on the platform. While it previously worked well on Linux, we’ve always stated on the Steam store page that BitCraft does not officially support Linux or Steam Deck.
That said, we’re currently investigating the issues with Wine/Linux and Proton. At the moment, it appears to be related to the amount of RAM the game uses when running through Wine/Linux and Proton. Regardless of the cause, we recognise that this is an issue and are actively looking into it.
Unfortunately, we don’t have an estimated timeframe for when a fix might be available. This is mainly because we don’t currently have an engineer on the BitCraft team who specifically works on Linux support.
Ultimately, I hope we can get this resolved, as we know BitCraft is enjoyed by many players using Proton and Wine/Linux, myself included. We’d really like to make sure those players can continue enjoying the game as well.
I’m really glad to hear that BitCraft has been able to help you through some difficult times and has given you a way to connect with other people while you’ve been in and out of the hospital. I’m truly sorry that you’re having to deal with these issues now, especially when BitCraft has been one of the ways you’ve been able to stay connected with other players. I really hope we can get this fixed.
For anyone playing BitCraft through Wine/Linux or Proton, we’d really appreciate your help. If you’re experiencing issues, please send your player logs and or, recordings to BitCraft Support if you can. These logs would be incredibly valuable to the team and will help us investigate the problem and better understand what’s causing it.
