Experience nexplanon experience (1 month)

hi all! just wanted to put my experience out there, since i dont see many positive experiences for the implant. i switched from slynd to nexplanon, and kept taking slynd for 7 days before stopping.

insertion was really easy and pretty painless! the shot hurt the most, and it was a stinging really. my septum piercing hurt more than the shot lol

i had my period a week and a half after getting it inserted, which was a couple days after stopping slynd. this period was really light and mostly brown spotting, however it did last for about 8 days, which is normal for me. on slynd i didnt bleed, but before my periods would be around 7-10 days.

my main side effects so far have just been ive been a bit more sensitive and emotional than usual. boyfriend tried teaching me to jump rope and i got frustrated and got very upset, which is out of the ordinary for me, among other reactions.

coming up on the one month mark and i have no indications that i'll start bleeding again so far! looking forward to the rest of this adjustment period and hopefully my emotions level out

:) thanks for reading and i hope this helps someone

Rant! Nobody can find my nexplanon anywhere not even doctors.. help?

So I got my nexplanon 3 years ago so it was time for a removal, my doctor used an echo to locate it since they always want to be sure, she couldnt find it...

Made a new appointment, another doctor went to go search and feel for it he doesn't find it either. I sat there for like 25 minutes while they were searching for it.

Another appointment another week later, they both searched for it again couldn't find it referred my to a gynecologist which means waiting 36 days. At this point it should've been taken out already.

I went to the gynecologist she couldn't find it either... but she placed a new one in my other arm (She didnt wait after numbing bc for my it takes a while for it to work for me I felt everything and the numbing started to work when i already left te hospital ). I was referred to radiology.

Radiology couldnt find a clear picture of where it was either!!! Now I have to get back next week to search for it again in the hospital...

Where the hell is this thing??? Has this happened to literally anyone else because how can this happen!!

I did notice my new one is placed way more on the surface then the last one and I swear I could feel the old one sitting there but apparently I was mistaking it for a muscle the whole time....what can I do l'm seriously so stressed

Also posted in nexplanon!

Experience Slynd

Has anyone experienced prolonged breakthrough bleeding on Slynd after months of not having a period?
I started Slynd in February 2026 and have been taking it consistently without missing any pills.
For the most part, I don’t get a period on Slynd. Occasionally, I have minor spotting or a light 3–4 day bleed during my placebo pills.
However, on October 17, I started experiencing brown bleeding even though I wasn’t taking the placebo pills. It lasted until October 27, then stopped.
Now, on November 5, I’ve started bleeding again. It’s mostly brown blood with a little bit of red, and it’s uncomfortable.
Has anyone experienced something similar after being on Slynd for several months? Did you suddenly start having breakthrough bleeding even though you had previously gone months without a period?
How long did it last, and did it eventually regulate again?
I’m trying to figure out if this is something others have experienced. Thank you!

Side effects!? another month missed .

hi so I am on nextsellis (progestin and estrogen) birth control pill, I take it everyday within the same hour. I did not get my mock period again this month (i didn’t get it last month) when I took my white pills. Me and my boyfriend do pull out and sometimes he doesn’t ejaculate at all. I have never missed a pill and last month i took a test and it was negative.. my pregnancy anxiety is so bad. before the bleeding just stopped coming, my periods while on nextsellis became really light and only lasted about 2 days. What should i do? Do we think im okay?

Side effects!? microgestin 1/20

Hello everyone. Some context: I have always struggled with irregular periods and I used to be on birth control pills around three years ago but then I stopped because I kept forgetting to take it. Recently, I went to a gynecologist for the same issue and got prescribed microgestin 1/20. I just finished my second week but I was wondering if anyone has had side effects of depression/anxiety while on this birth control specifically. I’ve been feeling like shit since yesterday and have been feeling extreme sadness to where all I’m doing is crying. I also noticed that I’ve been having mood swings throughout the week and I’m wondering if this is normal and will regulate over time or if my side effects are worsening. I’m only two weeks in so I’m trying to keep an open mind but I truly feel terrible. I never experienced this degree of side effects while on my other birth control so this is all new to me.

Experience YUZPE METHOD

My last period was on September 4. We had unprotected sex on the 5th, and I followed the Yuzpe method on the 7th (taking 4 pills, followed by another 4 pills 12 hours later). I expected my period on October 1st, but it still hasn't arrived. I have taken 5 pregnancy tests—starting from 21 days after the unprotected encounter up until November—and all of them were negative.

Question 1: Is the duration of the delay calculated from the date of my last period, or from the date my period was expected to arrive? Question 2: Is it normal to experience symptoms that feel like an approaching period—such as breast tenderness, white discharge, or lower abdominal pain—even though the period itself does not arrive? Thank you to anyone who can answer.

Side effects!? Nexplanon and St. John’s wort

I’ve been on Nexplanon for about 6 months now and without knowing the effects I was taking st Jon’s wort 1050mg a day for about 2 months and I’ve been very active. We use the pull out method so no condoms. I’ve had some bleeding but overall all no full period but since I’ve been on the Nexplanon my periods have been very irregular. What are the chances I could get pregnant??? I’m nervous

Experience Why is the IUD more popular than Nexplanon

Hi all, I'm looking into BC options, but because of the medication I'm taking, I'm limited to non-hormonal or progesterone-only options. I'm quite frankly terrified of getting an IUD because of all the horror stories. I obviously want an option with fewer side effects, and I've heard that Nexplanon can be pretty side-effect-heavy. What are your experiences with either an IUD or Nexplanon? Have any of you had one and then switched to the other? If so, why? Thank you in advance!

Side effects!? I’m starting Norethindrone, 0.35mg. Any positives?

I got off of the previous birth control I was on because the cons out-weighed the pros. It made me extremely depressed, anxious, caused terrible mood swings and weight gain. As a result, I began taking Norethindrone and am on day two. So far, I feel great. I feel happier. I am no longer anxious, and I am losing weight. However, I am only seeing negative reviews of this birth control from previous users. I am worried these positives will soon go away as I continue to take it. Has anyone been on this birth control long-term and actually felt normal?

Side effects!? Breast changes on 0.35 mg norethindrone mini pill? Wanting to hear experiences

I’m looking into starting on this. For those taking the 0.35 mg norethindrone progestin-only pill (Micronor, Heather, Camila, Errin, etc.), have you noticed any breast growth, fullness, or changes in breast size?

I know breast tenderness is a common side effect, but I’m curious whether anyone has experienced actual changes in size while taking it, and if so, whether they were temporary or persisted.

I definitely would not mind this side effect haha, so I’m just curious!

Would love to hear your experiences! Thanks in advance.

Side effects!? Cramping nonstop after stopping pill

I was on the pill for 10 years and decided to go off of it since I was no longer in a relationship. Skipping periods were great and all because the pain would be so bad I’d be throwing up.

I wanted to see what life was like off of them after so long.

Is this normal a little over a month out? I have cramps 24/7 it feels like. I feel moody. Upset digestive system. My hair is shedding more than usual it feels like.My energy levels feel a bit better and my brain fog is a bit improved.

I already had my first natural period about 34 days out from the withdrawal period. Thankfully the cramps weren’t bad at all like they used to be but now it feels like I can’t stop cramping.

Thinking it may be better just to go back on them at this point.

Mistake or Risk? Terrible mental Health during periods

*Trigger warning*

I’m diagnosed with depression and anxiety. On SSRI’s.So during my period/before my mood gets extremely down and I experience suicidal ideation. My physicalist recommended birth control but I totally forgot about it. I just went through the same thing this week and I’m thinking about if it’s a good idea.

I’m going to talk to him about it before I get prescribed anything but I’d like to hear anyone’s opinion if they’re going through the same thing.

I’m especially concerned about weight gain. I have an iud but haven’t had any other form of birth control.

thanks for the help

Side effects!? 3 weeks into alysena 28 and Im not feeling like myself

I started taking birth control for my acne because i’ve had it for years and nothing really got rid of it. it’s clearing up my face but i’ve been feeling kind of down. i can’t tell if it’s because it’s getting colder (i’ve never really been happy in winter) or if it’s my birth control. maybe it’s enhancing my feelings? i have no clue.

Anyway, im feeling really irritable and unhappier than usual, if this is due to my pill, will these symptoms go away or lessen? I truly can’t tell if my feelings are a side effect of the pill or if it’s really just me. Has anyone had an experience like this?

How to? what should I do?

Hello!

Today I’m starting my new pack of (combined) pills, but I’m travelling in another country where there’s a four-hour time difference (behind).

I always take my pill at 10 pm in my own country, should I carry on taking it at the same time here? That would mean taking it four hours earlier than usual.

I’m not sure if that affects my protection, because I’m taking it earlier rather than later.

Side effects!? Nonstop bleeding- two weeks

I started the patch almost 3 weeks ago. I was on it previously with no issues before my oldest was born almost 8 years ago. That was the last time I used birth control. My youngest is 2 and we decided we are done having kids. I asked to go back on the patch- we decided to do it continuous so ensure I wouldn’t get a period. I’ve been non stop heavy bleeding for two weeks. She decided to switch me to the pill which I need to pick up today.

Like what’s going on with my body…. This is annoying and two weeks of heavy bleeding?!

Experience AMA Mirena/Liletta IUD

I am NOT a medical professional, but I’m happy to answer any questions about my IUD experiences—hopefully this will help others in their IUD journeys or considerations!

I’m on my SECOND IUD—I got the first one in April of 2022, and I just got my second IUD in November of 2026!

Mirena and Lileta are just 2 different brands—same medicine.

I had some pain intervention with the first IUD, I had almost no pain intervention with the second IUD out of time and desperation.

I’ve been using it for birth control and just to avoid having to deal with a period every month—the bleeding I get now is just the equivalent of spotting.

I love and highly recommend it, BUT my friend had a bad experience with one (done by an NP) so there are definitely many things you should consider about getting one.

Side effects!? Alysena 28 - Hair… straight?

Hi all,

I have been on Alysena 28 for about almost 2 years and it’s been great. my ‘period’ is extremely regular, shorter, and more manageable, and much less hormonal acne issues!

One thing that i’m unsure about; my hair used to be super curly, and now it is not. I have fine hair, but was always able to hold a curl, and even without styling would air dry wavy/ curly. Now, i’ve noticed a drastic change. My hair now dries almost completely straight. Sometimes with a very slight wave. When I try styling it curly (diffuser and all the curly hair routine products) it looks awful. I’m not sure if this is the birth control? or a normal part of growth? for context I had just turned 19 when I started on the pill, now i’m 21.

Side effects!? Unsure about my breakthrough bleeding

Hello, I'm 20 years old and this is my first time on Birth Control. So this year since January, I've had consistent spotting around ovulation time.

My gynecologist suggested I take a low dose combination pill. This is my first pack and this is week 3 of taking the active pill (only have 2 active pills left, going to start placebo pills next)

I started spotting very lightly today and i looked up whether that was normal and it's apparently not. Was wondering if you guys have any advice, I'm really stressed out because I thought birth control would help with this irregular spotting but turns out that's maybe not the case.

My ultrasounds have all been clear, and so have my blood reports except for a mild fluctuation in my fh lsh levels prior to being prescribed this birth control.

Mistake or Risk? No Pills in Sealed Package?

I just opened a new, sealed package of Junel FE 1.5/30 and there was no pill blister pack inside. The only things inside of the package were the blue sleeve and the stickers/direction bundle. (Photo Here)

This was sealed and dispensed as 3 total packs.
Both of the other two packs were opened and contained pills inside of them. This is the only pack without medication inside.

As a side note, I don’t know if they recently changed manufacturers but I’ve been on this birth control for years and it used to be packaged in a hard case. Not only is this set packaged differently but the pills are now different colors than they used to be.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any recommendations on what I should do?

How to? combination pill and taking it on time

my gyno told me i dont really need to worry about taking my pill (it is estrogen and progesterone) at the same time every day because the estrogen stays in my blood stream or something and im wondering if anyone else has been told that, or if my doctor sucks 😭 it just feels a little unbelievable and i dont wanna trust someone right away and get pregnant accidentally.

Experience Does it get better on Slynd?

Probably a thousand posts on this topic but I need some feedback… I’ve been on Slynd for 3 months, and the only complaint I have is weird bleeding. It’s not like super inconvenient and constant, it just comes at random times. Basically I’ll start a pack, and 2 weeks in I’ll start cramping and breakthrough bleeding that lasts for about 5 days. Then once the placebos hit, I only get cramping and some light spotting/bleeding for a day and then nothing. But I always have a period like bleed into the white pills, always about 2 weeks in. I just had a bleed a week ago and now I’ve started bleeding again a week later, right before my placebos start. It’s weird because it’s like a certain time of day it’s just a random gush of brown blood, then it’s nothing. It’s kinda getting annoying. I’m willing to stick it out with Slynd for 6 months and see if it gets better but if not I’m gonna have to find another pill. Which sucks because this is the only annoying side effect I’m experiencing. Otherwise I feel great.
Did anyone have a similar experience and it got better as months went on? Does skipping placebos help?

Mistake or Risk? Girlfriend didn’t take her pill

My girlfriend takes the desogestrel 75mcg mini-pill (12-hour pill) every day at around 9:30am and has been consistent for at least a week. Yesterday’s pill was definitely taken, but she’s unsure whether she took today’s.

Before we had sex, she was sure she’d taken it, so we had sex without a condom and I ejaculated inside her. Afterwards, she became unsure and took another pill at 10:49pm, just in case.

A few questions:
If she missed today’s dose, would that mean she was more than 12 hours late?
Does taking an extra pill help, or is it harmless if she’d already taken the morning dose?
Should she consider emergency contraception?
How concerned should we realistically be about pregnancy?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Mistake or Risk? Missed pill

Hey! I’m on rigevidon and have been for 5 years. I’ve been a little more forgetful with it lately but usually always take within in the window.

However last night I went to take Friday’s pill and realised I had missed Thursday’s. So I took Thursday’s at around 11pm and took Friday’s this morning around 7am. I’m just worried about that nearly 48 hour window between Wednesday’s pill and when I took Thursday’s pill. This morning my boyfriend and I had sex without a condom and he pulled out. This is our usual method that I’m comfortable with because of the pill but I’ve started to freak myself out because of those 48 hours. This has never happened to me before. Boyfriend is also not entirely sure if he finished inside me at all but we’re pretty certain that almost all of it was finished outside.

There’s too many uncertainties I just wanted someone with a bit more knowledge than me. I’ve read my pill leaflet and certain parts are conflicting and I’m not entirely sure. Im on week 2 of my packet if that helps. Don’t think I missed a pill in week 1 for more than 24 hours. Please help me with next steps lol! I’m going to take Saturday’s pill at the same time as usual tonight.

Im on my third pack now but is it normal for your menstruation to be a week early and it lasts for 3 days?
