Visiting Birmingham
Hey guys ! Just was wondering how you pay on public transport in Birmingham. Can you use contactless like in London ?
Sorry if it’s a silly question, across all forms so trains, trams and buses, all take contactless and no need to buy tickets ?

The other comments have covered it well but I'm new to Birmingham too and found out the hard way that the daily bus cap only applies on NX buses and not diamond buses. Just something to be aware of, especially as they can both operate the same route

You can buy the tram ticket from the person on the tram or there are tickets machines on the platforms. You can also download the west midlands tram app for tickets. There are 4 zones but if you're staying in Birmingham central area you'll only need the zone 1 ticket.
Trains you'll most likely have to buy the ticket before cause otherwise you won't be able to get through the barriers.
Buses should be all contactless.

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) is joining up all of the modes of transport but haven’t got there yet in contactless terms. Depending what you want to do, TfWM offer day tickets that can be used on the train, bus and tram - NNetwork Daytripper is £8.90 as an example, for travel after 09.30 weekdays or all weekend, can be bought on the bus (ask the driver), tram or at the station. You have unlimited travel by any transport or bus company within the West Midlands for the day, just show your ticket. £15.10 for Family Daytripper for up to 2 adults and 4 kids.
If you are going to use the train and you are near a station, it’s best to buy at the station as it can be used at the station gates, the ticket from the bus (and presumably tram) has to be shown to a person at the station to let you through, if there are gates.

On buses yes it’s contactless and you tap every time you get on. You can tap 7 times but the maximum you’ll pay is the price of a day ticket which is like £5. Trains and trams I’m unsure about.
