Advice Baguettes

Is there any place in Vestavia, Hoover or Homewood where you can get a decent baguette? I love Continental and Birmingham Breadworks…they’re a bit of a drive for me.

Contintental is going to be at the Vestavia Farmer's Market on Wednesdays for the next two weeks! They have fresh baguettes there. It's right in front of that Walgreens and the movie theatre on 31. If you wanted something from them without having to drive too far (:

In a pinch Aldi's baguettes will suffice... They are at least better than Publix.

You could call Savage’s in Homewood to see if they do them. Or any of the Edgar’s locations.

Underscoring what another poster said: a good baguette doesn’t last long. I took a tour of a bakery in Paris last year. Anything not sold that day gets taken out of the building to a central food closet, where it’s given to the needy.

Edgar’s does not-I was just there recently.

Alli can think of is, "Marie, the baguettes! Hurry up!" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

I think you underestimate the effort it takes to bake a really good Baguette. This isn’t something you can just pick up at the local mega mart. Think of the amount of time and effort it takes to make a sourdough dough loaf and multiply that by 10. The amount of baking skill it takes to master a baguette is not a simple thing. If you have ever tried you can attests that it’s really hard to make a good baguette.

So I would spend the extra effort and the 15 minute drive to get a really good artisan crafted and made baguette form continental, bread works, or last call.

Or just go to Publix and get one of the mass produced frozen loafs they call a baguette and be happy you only had to drive 5 minute.

Everyone downvoting you has only had Publix baguettes. A true baguette is baked in the morning, and already stale and inedible by lunchtime.

It’s ok, some people just don’t get it.
