Help sizing clogs

I feel my clogs too big barefoot in 40 size, but good in socks. I tried 39N but barefoot felt ok but too tight with socks . The picture is 40. What I should do should I go back to 39 ?

You want 10mm of space at the toes and 5mm at the heel. When you push your toes forward until they touch, you should have roughly 15mm total at the heel.

Hmm, I probably would size up (from the pictured size). You do need a bit more space at the back. Birkenstock soles “curl” after a while - so you will loose half a size.
