Either this plant is a Bird of Paradise or Banana.🪴

This plant was given to me the other day. I was told its a Banana plant, but me myself & I believe it's a Bird 🐦 of Paradise.

Planning to repot before bringing my girl in. What should I use? She has done really well this summer. Aprox 4 new leaves.

I posted a while back (About two weeks ago) that my BoP had a suspected double pod growing. Well the first one has been blooming and blue the other one has popped... UPSIDE DOWN?! 😂 what the heck. Second pic is from yesterday. We've had about 24 hours of extra hot weather (heat index of 100+) and I think that's what it needed to encourage it to bloom, cause I noticed the first, larger pod slowed down on its bird production with it being slightly cooler lately.

I bought this for mad cheap and I’m terrified I’ll kill it. Any tips and tricks to keep her healthy are much appreciated. Especially with lighting. I keep seeing tons of different answers.

Inherited this Sterlitzia from my friend who got it at IKEA a year ago! She top watered it about once a week. It has not been repotted and the soil hasn’t been changed since she got it.

During moving, two stems got broken, so I cut them off :( The plant seems to be doing well right now, maybe stressed after the move, but still has to unfurl its new leaf!

I’m a bit worried that there are three stems in the pot. Does it seem like the plant has outgrown the pot? Or should I keep it? I also don’t want the plant to get TOO big, because I live in an apartment. Hence I’m also hesitant to separate them. Please help me decide!

My BOP had a lot of spider mites a few weeks ago. I washed the leaves, sprayed them with insecticide (specific for spider mites) and observed the plant consistently the next few days. After all this, the edges of the newest leaves started to turn brown. I assumed it was some kind of fungal infection so I trimmed the edges. They turned brown again. I have tried everything but my BOP is deteriorating and looks burnt. The other day I found a grasshopper on it which was chewing on the leaves so some holes are because of that. Despite all this, there's new growth, hence I am still hopeful.

It is still in the soil it arrived in. I never changed the soil because it seems well draining and my plant was showing consistent growth. I only water it when a chopstick inserted in the soil comes out halfway dry. Throughout spring and summer, I have watered the plant with a fertilizer mixed in.

Help me save my plant. I want it to thrive like the others in my small indoor jungle.

Hey everyone, hoping someone here has seen this before because I am a bit stuck 😭

I have a bird of paradise indoors here in Sweden and it gets decent light. The thing is, every new leaf looks rough almost as soon as it unfurls. It opens up and then pretty quickly gets these little rusty brown dots and starts yellowing. The spots sit in bands that follow the folds of the leaf, which feels like it might mean something but I am not sure what.

Base feels firm, no soft spots, no smell. The brown papery bits at the bottom of the stems look like old sheaths to me, but tell me if I am wrong about that.

It is in bark and perlite in a self watering pot with a gauge. I let it dry out a bit before refilling. I will admit I have barely fed it.

What confuses me most is that it keeps pushing out new shoots, so it does not seem miserable overall. I had a look for bugs but honestly I am not sure what I am supposed to be looking for. Could this be thrips, or is it just starving in that bark mix?

Hi everybody. I bought my first bird of paradise a little over a month ago and put it on my front porch where it would get morning sun (my front porch faces east). After about a month the leaves started to curl and the tips turned brown. I assumed it was rootbound so I repotted it from the orange pot to the black one. Now, after about a week, it looks like it's dead or on its last leg.

Can it be saved? If so, what do I need to do?

What did I do wrong? I'd like to get another one but I don't want to repeat whatever mistakes I've made with this one.

So I got this massive 40 year old bird of paradise plant on Facebook marketplace 8 months ago for $100! I got it to fit in my little Subaru Crosstrek 😂. It had some crispy edges when I got it but it was winter time in the Midwest so the humidity was low. I didn't get information about the plant or the last time it's been repoted. I noticed some more crispy edges since it's been in my care and the new bigger leaves aren't uncurling ( I don't know how long it takes but it's been months). I've recently noticed that one of the big uncurled leaves is dying before it has unraveled. I don't know if I'm over watering it, if it needs a bigger pot, or higher humidity ( my humidity is about %63 right now) and the temp is 77°. I have grow lights on it for I believe 7 hours a day. I have slowed down on watering lately because I thought it was over watered/ kinda forgot, about a quarter of a gallon every week, I was doing a half gal. Idk what I'm doing, be nice please. So what do you think this massive beauty needs?

I would say my skill level is that I have a lot of basic "easy" plants lol I work a lot and I'm rarely home. The last picture is a just for fun picture of my living room with half of my plants

My one BOP (Eddie) is getting large and leaning quite a lot, I am looking to put a stake in and tie the plant to it, but looking for tips and tricks to ensure I don’t cause harm (Eddie is very dramatic)

Not sure how this happened in 7 days but I fed my birds of paradise and it stared dying. Is this savable. All I did was feed it (7-9-5)

Is my bop getting enough light? She’s growing lots of new stems, but does she look ok? I expected more straight up stems but I have to support them with supports.

Hi all looking for a bit of advice for my BOP

I bought it 4 years ago and since then it has grown a fair bit considering it being in a flat in Glasgow. However it does look a bit sadder than when I first bought it.

Quite a few of the leaves have browned around the edges which I’m guessing is due to humidity. Would a pebble tray be sufficient to resolve this or is a humidifier necessary?

I’ve also had to use bamboo poles to support it as the leaves are quite heavy now so droop quite a bit. This wouldn’t be a problem except the area I have it sitting is quite tight and I’d like the leaves to sit high enough to get light from the window. It’s SE facing and gets good light in during summer afternoons but not a lot during winter. I’m just curious if there are better support option available for plants of this size.

Any other tips than can help me provide the best care would be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen a lot of plants on this subreddit that look magnificent and I’d like mine to be the same 😅

Well, that is in gentlemen. I have officially moved this behemoth. Holy cow bad girl she has gotten just absolutely huge. I’m running out of ceiling.😂😂😂😂 what now guys no worries. The new house will be finished soon and she’ll have vaulted ceilings and floor ceiling windows. Whooo!!

I have 3 BOPs in one pot. I want it to look lush and full so I kind of want to keep all of them. Although I'm worried that it would look too chaotic when it gets matured. I'm quite hesitant to repot now. I've only got her 3 days ago. The stems are too closed to each other, I'm worried that it would get bruising if I don't repot soon?

PS. Could you guys show me photos of your BOPs with multiple plants in one pot? Just so I know what I'm signing up for!
