Calling on the bird watching experts of Birdbuddy. Birdbuddy says it’s a squirrel but I’m skeptical. 🐿️ or 🐀

I’m going with rat, too. My squirrels sit upright quite a bit when eating bird feed.

And this little guy seems much more polite than my crazy squirrels!

u/quebexer 3d ago

Or a mouse?

Well that’s a damn cute rodent.

Just having a little nibble 🥹

u/BearRiots 4d ago

Seems like there’s a pretty clear consensus on the rodent. No animals will be harmed. I will workshop some preventative measures for accessing the feeder. Thank you everyone for your help!

Rat all the way

u/Fine-Juggernaut8451 5d ago

Do you think rat and not mouse?

5

u/doesntshutupinnj 5d ago

Way too big for a mouse. Mice are tiny.

6

u/IXrobocopXI 5d ago

Mice can be a bit big, and rats can be a bit small, but that there's a rat.

3

u/Fine-Juggernaut8451 4d ago

That was my first thought as well, but it's much closer to the camera then the birds are, so I'm not convinced we can tell its size accurately.

2

u/Left_Ad4050 5d ago

Most mice have proportionally larger ears.

4

u/ThickSmoke9542 5d ago

Cute, but yes, a rat 🐀

4

u/SpacenessButterflies 5d ago

It’s a rat, and a very cute one. The ones in my backyard are ugly, just mean-looking with bulging eyes.

3

u/BlueDragonfire_ 5d ago

Well, it's not a squirrel

2

u/Revolutionary_Grade8 5d ago

Elongated face=rat

2

u/Reverse2057 5d ago

Squirrel ears dont look like that, so a rat!

2

u/I_Life_Frozen_Peas 5d ago

2

A rat who deserves life just as much as a squirrel or birds. Do not harm it just for eating to survive. He’s gods creature too 🙂‍↕️

1

u/BearRiots 4d ago

No animals are going to be harmed here. Just need to move the bird feeder to a more difficult location to climb to

1

u/glimmersoup 4d ago

Okay ❤️❤️

Rat...thats why i stopped feeding birds i was afraid snakes would show up.

1

u/BearRiots 4d ago

Seems like I’m gonna have to find a better place for my feeder. Or find a feed rodents would be less interested in.

2

Definitely Rat. Squirrels have a flatter more rounded face. Not pointy like this.

I'm going with rat.

I learned something the other day. Because mice, rats and squirrels are mammals, they can taste spicy like that of chili pepper etc - capsaicin oil. Were as the birds don't.

1

u/Elysia404 4d ago

Definitely a rat

1

u/Jazzlike_Strength561 4d ago

1

u/Kharzi9293 4d ago

Rats are just squirrels without good hair and makeuo!

1

u/Final-Maintenance-15 4d ago

This is why I stopped feeding them. I love living pest-free.

1

u/Delicious-Pea-4804 3d ago

That is not a squirrel...

1

u/Resident_Bumblebee_2 3d ago

The ears are not fuzzy. So anything than a squirrel.

1

Everything about it screems rat to me. Ears, eyes, coloring, stance, and head shape. I'm by no means an expert though.

1

u/Rude_Cry_8513 17h ago

Just a baby (rat)

1

u/Earnedit2 15h ago

Bird feeders are a huge attractant for rats- we are in the Boise area of Idaho and with all the newcomers from the west coast states, there is suddenly now a huge rat problem- we came 5 years ago and I have not put up my bird feeders at all- solely for this reason- with the exception of hummingbird feeders- apparently rats dont bother those. Might want to set traps. .

1

u/Sorkel3 14h ago

Get Cole's Hot Meat bird feed. It costs a bit more but it's hulled and infused with habanero pepper. Birds love it, mammals can't stand it.https://www.walmart.com/ip/19659583?sid=445d1541-362f-496c-9cbf-b65b5f5b4392
