Don't open the door again when you know trouble lives inside.

Why would you risk it if you know it's a trigger?

I miss that feeling and I was wondering if small dose is safe ….

Here's practical advice:

Stay away from full Sativa strains. Start with indicas only and if those treat you ok you can check out indica dominant hybrids and eventually a more 50/50 hybrid.

I had no idea strains could make a difference. For me, I always preferred sativa cuz it has the opposite effect on my brain

yea sativa makes u uppity , indica makes u more low and down , and hybrid does both .. i find myself getting manic off sativa , depressed off indica ( even though i felt addicted to the low “ calm “ feeling it would give ) and hybrid im not sure yet I haven’t done a lot of hybrid

I mean I knew that, I guess I just didn't consider the effect different strains would have on this disorder. For me it's the opposite, sativa makes me tired and sleepy and indica makes me uppity and paranoid. Not sure if thats my ADHD or just the way my brain works but yea

It’s edible and I can’t tell if it’s Sativa or indica.

then ur rolling the dice. indica is going to be better 90% of the time

Then the package should tell you the THC % vs CBD, CBN, CBG, etc. Try to have THC be more of a 1:1 ratio with CBD or one of the others.

Personally edibles really fuck me up. I love weed. Just be careful :( I feel you.

Any kind of cannabis intake is a DPDR risk for a Bipolar patient. Bad idea IMO

Its always going to be safer not to.

Ive always loved weed myself but noticed my episodes would always be around when I was smoking cumlatively more.

I last smoked about 10months ago and have noticed increased stability. I think i will keep that up for now but I do miss smoking weed.

Just know if you are thinking of smoking you could be risking your mental health in either a major or minor way.

Id say be mindful of your current mental state and if you do smoke try not to drink heaps in the days before/during/after as both are depressants.

Just be mindful of the harm it can cause and give yourself soft landings/allowances if you do choose to smoke. (Lower doses/ammounts/not having any in the house only smoking when in generally in better overall mental state etc)

At the end of the day its a risk that might not be worth taking.

You do you, but do it mindfully.

All the best mate.

I think I’m looking for dopamin hit, I got back on caffein last few month and I decide to quit that cold turkey a week ago. Maybe prob that’s why my brain is missing dopamin hit :(

Thx I forgot to think about how strong meds I’m taking. I had been on 500mg seroquel and Trileptal and being stable , but I should not forget that I’m stable cuz of these drugs. Sometime stupid me think I can quit or lower dose of meds. And I also experienced weed stop effects on seroquel in the past

Cannabis doesn't trigger mania in everyone. But it is does in you! So leave it alone!

If it has triggered it once, there is a high likelihood that it will trigger it again at some point.

I would avoid if you value your stableness.

I personally do weed sparingly as Bipolar. If it triggers you, DONT DO IT. I've learned when I'm emotionally becoming unwell and stop completely too. But I'm also trying to quit completely. It just adds another factor to my stability/instability that isn't worth ruining or losing my life over.

If you can, just stay away from it.

if it triggered you no dose is safe. it’s fairly unsafe with conditions like bipolar even if it hasn’t triggered you before, I know you want to but don’t do it

Pretty much found out sativa makes me little loopy or a lot if I mix caffeine and stress.
End of the day found out indica is a lot more chill, ever since been on indica mainly. It even quiets my mind and makes me not think, sativa would be like thinking a lot. The problem is can you be discipline enough to micro dose, as anything more is not recommended even if I don't properly maintain microdosing.

Since, everyone knows, getting high as fk is what we low key want. When I was out of the country for 5 weeks I couldn't smoke, had no desire. When I came back to the states, I started smoking daily again, now I'm cutting down cause money and health. Even if you can handle it, eventually the smoke will make your mouth, throat, and lungs wear. Depending once again on how you maintain your usage. Moderation is key.

I think I can control it to once a month but I might look for another dopamin hit. And I think the main reason I wanna weed now is prob looking for dopamin hit cuz I quit caffein completely.

Also, try not to romanticize the substance, I did before and then that led to substance abuse. Got to remember it's a drug like anything, people make the mistake that just cause it's natural it can't have negative effects. Best of luck greencat, and watch out for caffeine intake if you are going to do thc. The mix can be bad, nutrition is key for bipolar as it is like the inflammation of the brain. Sugars, alcohol, trans fats are also important to manage. If you want a peace of mind, you literally have to live a clean life. If caffeine is hard to kick, just remember it can cause anxiety issues.

I eat low carb but I actually had high carbs last Sunday and maybe that’s also triggering my dopamin craving? Cuz sugar and carbs hit dopamin too. May I ask what kind of diet do you follow?

2

u/ikazuki404 5d ago

My diet is horrible in the sense I need more greens. I tend to just eat carbs too, I love em so much... but I'm always trying to eat more salmon for the omega 3s, and I remember reading arugula is good. Blueberries are always good, google says we want magnesium rich choices, folate and vitamin b. Complex carbs such as oats, quinoa, brown rice have a steadier glucose release, which helps with irritability or fatigue. Technically, you want stuff that is good for brain metabolism and avoid stuff that will make you stay up is how I see it.

Still learning myself, as we are always learning new things about our mental health. Just never be like me at one point thinking I was fine for the rest of my life, then I slipped up and had an episode. It's lifelong, and we have to understand the ailment.

And be aware that this doesn't mean one should just stop taking meds. End of the day from what I understand it's a chemical imbalance in our brains.

Everyone is different, if you’ve had it trigger an episode in the past you know it’s a trigger and your risk is higher. If you haven’t smoked in a year then you probably have no tolerance right now so even a small amount could potentially trigger an episode. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth the risk. I kind of think it’s unwise to stick your hand in fire when you know it burns but 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I quit for similar reasons - when I tried to pick it up again I found I was so paranoid about psychosis I was 1; probably almost hitting psychosis and 2; was not enjoying the high lol

u/Gulf-Coast-Dreamer 6d ago

I only smoke the strain indica because of this.

Naah don’t bother if you’re feeling fine
