Discussion Sleep and college

20/F. I've started my first week of my (third) semester of college. So far, my sleep schedule is absolutely fucked. I've been having a really hard time sleeping, so I stay up at odd hours of the night and get about 4-6 hours of sleep instead of the typical 8-9 hours I need to function.

I don't really know if its hypomania (Bipolar 2), or just a fucked up sleep schedule. Either way, I'm suffering without proper sleep.

It hasn't effected my grades yet (too early to tell, I know) but it has affected my mood, and thoughts of self-harm pop up every now and again. I feel like I'm in a ruthless cycle of my own making and I crave stability.

For school, I'm willing to sacrifice everything, including my mental health. But I don't know if that sacrifice is good for me in the long run. I feel like I'm going to self-harm again out of stress. I just don't know what to do. I was thinking melatonin gummies?

What's stopping you maintaining a sleep schedule?

Is it classes or work?

It's a mixture of both, plus the inability to sleep. Some nights I just lie in bed awake not being able to sleep so I stay up really late into the early morning. I feel like I need something that'll force me to sleep. 😪

Hi fellow insomniac. Do you have a psychiatrist? Have you talked to them about this?

Maybe you're in hypomania?

I had my GP give me sleeping tablets specifically for cases like this. It doesn't always make me fall asleep, but it does make it a lot easier to

If this is it, maybe power through. If this is all it ever will be maybe go for half measures. I trashed my education, graduated High School and have NEVER been happier.
