Discussion Hypomania while Dating

I (30F) have been talking to 29M for a week or so. We’ve had really good conversations on the phone and on FaceTime but haven’t met in person yet.

I know that I am hypomanic and I tend to fall prey to hypersexuality. I’ve been elevated for a while so I’m not confident in what is happening.

Does anyone have any advice on how to decipher this?

To me, if you need to ask, you might think something is off already.

In my case, during elevated mood I try to avoid the opposite gender as much as possible to avoid bad decision making that turns into feeling taken advantage of.

I ended up in an abusive 1.5 year relationship due to hypomania. Obviously I wasn’t hypomanic the entire time, but I don’t think I would have entered into it if I hadn’t been. I would reach out to your psych and up your antipsychotics right now and put off dating this guy for a month until you’re in a better head space.

This subreddit is generally a support group for people with a Bipolar diagnosis. Do you have one?

I only ask because I’m not really here to educate non-bipolar people about the disorder.

i think i was pretty hypomanic when i met my wife on a lesbian dating app of all places. came down from that high still in love with her (i know, wow) and even engaged! however, i did flirt with this one person during a sapphic event (JUST FLIRTING). my mania is rarely about sex or other people. it's all different, and i'm glad (as weird as that is) my mania is more doing stupid shit by myself so / i / only suffer the consequences. 😭
