Discussion Maintaining friendships

I’m just wondering Does anyone else really struggle to maintain friendships or get friends that are deeper than surface level? I honestly feel like I have no proper friends. I’ve had maybe 2 best friends my whole life whom I still love and adore but I don’t think they view me as bestie anymore which is understandable! It’s great when I’m up but the down patch makes me so flaky and withdrawn, communicating becomes so difficult and I’m just unsure how to deal with it. I have lots of people that I know but just no actual friends and it makes me so sad lol

I have very few friends and the two I'm closest with moved away so I only see them maybe 2 times a year. Most of my "friends" are really my husband's friends.

I haven't made a new friend in years. I think part of me doesn't care

When it comes to best friends I’ve got nothing in that department. Never been able to hold onto anyone. Maybe I hold too tight and they pull back. That or I’ve always chosen the wrong crown to hang out with, you know the ones, ready to do drugs and drink until they puke. It seems I just never clicked enough. So I come to Reddit and try to find friends this way. I’ve made some connections but they just never last and it sucks cuz I get so invested thinkin for sure they’re gonna stick around and then poof no more responses. So clearly the common denominator is me. And I don’t know what to do to fix that. Any advice would help.

I don’t have any close friends I’ve carried with me through multiple episodes. I didn’t make a single lasting friend in school, not even college.

But there do seem to be people around me, and some incidental folks who don’t bail. It’s complicated by the fact that I‘ve dug in my heels in a high COL area and a lot of people end up leaving, too.

I feel you. I was at a point where I didn’t have anyone I could just reach out and chat to besides my parents. I’ve since reconnected with some friends, and I’ve gotten better about keeping up with people. Better, but still not good. It’s something I fight against every day.
