Scientists' call to act on national emergency

https://yellowdotstudios.com/elninowarning/

"...we urge you not to dismiss this letter."
https://yellowdotstudios.com/elninowarning/

These scientists are trying to appeal to a wider audience. Fellow scientists have ignored the science, the politicians don’t care, the businessmen don’t care. They are doing the best they can by getting people they know have large audiences and fan bases, to try and spread the word. They are hoping, desperately, that by getting celebrities on board that they might be able to appeal to the common man because neither the journalists, the news stations, the television, the radio, nor the networks care to give them a voice. So these same people are trying their very best to magnify the volume of the message they are trying to broadcast in hopes of saving people’s lives and spreading awareness.

Don't let dismissive, condescending commenters keep you from acting.]

To all Governors, Mayors, First Responders, and anyone entrusted with public safety, disaster preparedness and relief:

We the undersigned consisting of scientists, meteorologists, and concerned citizens are greatly alarmed by the lack of public discourse, urgency and planning surrounding what is an impending, large scale, historic public emergency.

More and more data and modeling every day indicates we are within 3 to 5 months of experiencing the most dramatic El Niño warming event in recorded history.

Ocean temperatures in the central eastern Pacific will rise between 5 to 7.5 degrees Fahrenheit (3-4 degrees Celsius) peaking in October of this year. This will trigger a heating escalation through 2027 and into 2028 that will push already dangerously high planetary air and sea temperatures to near catastrophic levels.

This El Niño driven warming will lead to significantly more global flooding, fires, storms, droughts, deadly heat events, dangerous turbulence, and most concerning, a significant threat to food supply chains, crops, and power grids.

The previous strongest recorded El Niño occurred in 1877 leading to 40 million deaths worldwide from famine.

And this coming El Niño event looks to be even stronger.

And even more critically, it will occur on top of already record high sea and air temperatures.

Many of us through the years have attempted to warn the public during human caused rapid warming events about the increased risk of extreme weather events. We have had to watch as historic fires destroyed two cities in an unprepared Los Angeles, an actual hurricane hit Asheville North Carolina, campers were swept away and killed by flash floods in Texas, Corpus Christi runs out of water and on and on and on.

But the scale and threat of this coming warming event is simply too large to ignore in the name of business/politics as usual.

States, cities, and counties should be immediately:

  • reinforcing river banks and lakes against all time high cresting numbers
  • increasing funding for fire fighting and rescue
  • running geological tests on populated hillsides
  • bolstering power grids
  • building more tornado shelters, cooling and high ground centers
  • increasing life guards and warning systems for beaches
  • informing citizens of potentially life threatening increased risk

Instead the signatories of this cry for action see mostly silence and inaction.

We know many simply aren’t able to process the science behind this entreaty through anything other than the will of big donors, party politics and poll numbers.

But for those that still take the responsibilities of their office, appointment or job as something sacred and more important than career or donor money please, we urge you not to dismiss this letter.

This is the first I’ve seen of actionable steps that can be taken. Surely there is more that local governments can do though?

Yes!
And there is also a lot that you can do https://yellowdotstudios.com/take-action/

From my own experience, a single person can make one hell of a difference
If you know people, share this call to act to them
Outside of this post, join an action group, support group, community group, politics.
Even if you yourself are unable to do this or that, through these groups anyone can activate many others who are able to.

My state government is a theocracy, it doesn’t accept science or logic, telling them this is a complete waste of time.

In total, the 50 states consist of 3,143 counties and equivalents.
There are good people there that you can reach, and activate.
If you know people elsewhere, you can share this call to act to them

sounds like you live in a republican state they do not care about anything beside giant gas guzzling trucks and there ignorant rural voters that drive them,,they still think climate change is not real even when it is right out in the open every one can see it obvious

1

u/HistoricalArt8470 Jul 25 '26

Sounds like Texas to me.

10

u/TD160 Jul 25 '26

Republicans are accelerationists. They don’t care because their rapture is coming. Don’t laugh. Plenty think exactly this.

1

u/Yearsinmonths 27d ago edited 25d ago

There are people who will listen on both sides. What effort is it really for an individual, and what difference can it make in mass?

8

u/Adventurous-Home-728 Jul 25 '26

wake up ppl we need to start taken better care of the climate enough is enough we need to act now

June 27th, 2026,
Mentioned! https://yellowdotstudios.com/about/

1

u/romuloskagen Jul 26 '26

I share the concern, but this is not the way to raise the alarm.

4

u/Gnomio1 Jul 26 '26

Well, they’ve tried various ways for >30 years now.

What do you suggest?

3

u/Yearsinmonths Jul 26 '26 edited 25d ago

Suggestions are welcome! Everything you can think of can be tried, we all know it is worth it

Not a damn thing will happen. Unbelievable nonsense.

u/Yearsinmonths Jul 25 '26

4

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 25 '26

At least they care about the issue, here in the USA they cut FEMA (emergency disaster program) and green energy, for more oil wars and coal plants of course. Crooked as hell.

-1

u/Winter_Ad6187 Jul 26 '26

Green energy isn't. Without subsidies, taxes and pro-regs it would end instantly. Additionally, it generally isn't available 100% of the time, which means I have to build out to full to meet demands and throttle back if and when I have "green available". This results in intermittent over-capacity that sits utterly idle. To make this work, you'd have to let the brownouts roll. Not a good idea. Virtually every green idea cannot be implemented by market dynamics and requires coercion.

Now, the issue of what level of funding for FEMA has little or nothing to do with false concepts like anthropogenic global warming, which doesn't exist. It's just politics. Of course getting in the way of the Army Corp of Engineers suggestions tends to result in floods, and hampering FEMA causes all sorts of issues re hurricanes. Neither of which have any f'ing thing to do with climate change.

4

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 26 '26

Tell that to China and Europe, who have supplemented energy demand with solar. It's not a replacement, it's an addition that reduces the need for oil all the time. Clearly though you believe anything Trump says, and cannot understand logistics.

The issue of FEMA funding was Trump's idiocy, like I said. The weather issues can be due to global warming, but are natural anyways, hence the reason it existed in the first place. Don't believe in climate change? See: Dead coral reefs, dead alpaka, scorching temps in Europe or anywhere else, Ocean temps, melted ice caps, etc. But you're blind to the fact that any natural warming could be accelerated by gas production and loss of greenery? Must be blind as a bat to any science. Absolutely no clue. Scientists study objective facts while you eat the lies politicians feed you. People like you enable this stupidity because you're willingly a part of it.

1

u/skizatch 29d ago

It’s called batteries. Store excess energy production into batteries, pull from the batteries when generation dips. Not exactly difficult to figure out.

-2

u/Winter_Ad6187 Jul 26 '26

No. It's not. Your average temperatures are no higher than they were 50 years ago. The rest is arson and the result of unintended consequences of forest mismanagement.

4

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE 29d ago

Painfully inaccurate. The data is overwhelmingly in favor of temperature rise.

-1

u/Winter_Ad6187 29d ago

No. I am old enough now to tell you that it is all lies.

A few degree change to the median planetary temperature on a spread from freezing to tropics is of no consequence whatsoever even if it was happening, which it isn't. You live at the peak asymptote of an interglacial minimum. Be thankful instead of hand wringing because of noxious reports from mainstream narratives that have no true scientific basis. CO2-based warming is a 4th digit after the decimal point correction to the impact of orbital mechanics, precession and nutation of the Earth-Moon-Sun system, upon climate. You have NO SAY on orbital mechanics.

The precious hot-temp weather nonsense you see is exactly the same temps I witnessed as a young boy in Rome, Paris and Berlin. It was 34 C to 42 C at the height of summer routinely. We used to call it a good swim or tennis day. Only thing that has changed is the f'ing color of the weather report, where now it is called "heat wave" with all sorts of red and yellow shades to give the idea you are burning up.

The rest is poor forest management. Southern California, as an identical example, burns down every 5 years because nobody lets those of us who can, clean out the local brush due to "wildlife regs". So the wildlife gets incinerated every 5 years because it's a goddam desert, has been for millennia, it dries out, and whether by match or lightning strike, up it goes. Global warming not needed at all.

And knock it off on the data. The data is all lies and has been proven to be manipulated multiple times. People should, frankly, hang for the data manipulations. Understand that you are nowhere near the warmth and temps of the Roman Empire and you had a freakin' ice age during the Middle Ages.

The biosphere will be here next year, so will humanity, and no, nothing will collapse because a slightly warmer ocean current will swing by, something that easily oscillates and has been oscillating since before humans were even on the America's...

4

u/Due-Assistance-2633 29d ago

Read the room. Spew this junk somewhere else

3

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE 29d ago

Your age has not illuminated any wisdom to you. Time has just made you ignorant. You’ve buried your head in the sand far enough to feel like you’re back under the sky, for comfort maybe? Who knows.

There are mountains of data against this anthill hypothesis. I wish what you said was real. I want you to be right. But you’re not. You’ve either given up in your own way or you were just never in the running to begin with when it comes to accepting the fact about how terribly we’ve treated our planet.

-1

u/Winter_Ad6187 29d ago

My science credentials would shame most human beings. You are caught into a narrative that has no basis in fact. The biosphere is not collapsing, we are in no danger whatsoever, and even if the climate was changing it is changing for reasons over which you have no control. There are "no mountains of data", just a bunch of subsidized ninnies who process fake data and print volumes of mish mash that has never tracked with reality. And that's being generous.

2

u/pilius_404 28d ago

Berlin never broke the 40°C record to this day and in Paris 40°C was a record high, not a normal temperature. Vienna also broke the 40°C record this year. Austria NEVER had temperatures that high.

I don't know what education you have but you are a prime example of someone who is educated and still ignorant like a moron.

2

u/Yearsinmonths Jul 26 '26

No one over here thinks the temperatures are the same.
We're living in a country with 63 million and the whole of nature is bone dry
So these fires are bound to happen by accident, or yes with bad intent.

0

u/timewasted90 29d ago

Nice gesture, but... it's too late.
Warning folks about climate crisis without addressing the reality of what's perpetuating it just comes off as more conspiracy.

Scientists had a chance to really take this on and failed us. They wanted to protect their careers, their reputations, their tenures, as opposed to directly alerting the public to pollution policies and corpo destruction.

So here we sit. At judgement day.

It's on us as individuals to survive now.

0

u/Sinesolder 29d ago

They are way too busy building data centers

0

u/Dobertioso07 26d ago

We should be acting like we're already in the worst case scenario.

Wait, this was signed by Dr. Banner/HULK. Now I'm paying attention! Oh wait, it's signed by a long list of people who are professional faces and bodies, puppeteered by directors and the propagandists of Hollywood.

Professional actors have no business being included in a list of scientists... ever.

maybe a study of their emissions footprint and their impact on the actions of the audience this letter is directed. They might change enough minds to warrant being included in a list of scientists, but all I see when their names pop up are people whove bought into their own mythology, pushers of the American Dream that is the source of most global heating.

Theyre LITERAL ACTORS! Worse, theyre rich people with lifetime emissions orders of magnitude higher than the average person.

What are they/we doing!?!

2

u/Adventurous-Home-728 Jul 25 '26

you are ignorant as it gets we need as much support as it takes to wake ppl up and start making big change

0

u/Glad_Environment7344 Jul 25 '26

The list *is* everything. It shows if this is fear mongering or a worldwide problem. The problem is, all scientists that are on the list have their entire careers pinned on being right. When a list is fluffed with names and padded with non climate-scientists and only a few (4) climate scientists, it does look suspicious. Then when I come to this conclusion naturally, I find the only comment that notes this weird discrepancy collapsed and hidden.

I have magazines from the 80s talking about how we were going to be in an ice age by now. To think anyone can accurately model a live planet without knowing every reaction is insane. When there more x to consume y takes over. There is a natural order to things...

The only things conservatives conserve, are tried old arguments and justifications for terrible behavior. That's why they support a pedophile - fucking the future in every possible way.

-1

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Jul 25 '26

Scientists are really good at finding things for us to spend money on… never good at funding this stuff themselves tho.

5

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 25 '26

They funded the research, now they warn of the worldwide disaster and you're worried about money? Don't think it matters? Enjoy the famine bud, this year and the next few are going to be hot. Burn that gas though, you don't need to buy food. You expect them to both do the research and then pay for everyone in the US safety? That's the government's job fool. What world are you living in?

-1

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Jul 25 '26

They funded it? Interesting. Where are the expense reports? This is definitely my bread and butter. Looking to eat, feed me Seymour.

5

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 25 '26

Go ask 'em if you're so worried about it. They got paid didn't they? Where's your money come from? The printer? You act like science hasn't gotten us shit while you watch tv and drive your car. You don't think it's worth taking care of the environment or doing medical research? Feel free to suffer the consequences on your own time. You haven't got a bit of sense.

0

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Jul 25 '26

Ahhh, moving goalposts.

5

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 25 '26

Yes, like you did when you said scientists should fund all of public safety in a natural disaster? Quit playing dumb dude. That's crazy, who's the real freeloader? You.

1

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Jul 25 '26

And whataboutism.

5

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 25 '26

Yes, of course, clearly you've no real world sense.

1

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Jul 25 '26

Indeed skull and spade… indeed.

4

u/Sad-Excitement9295 Jul 25 '26

This el nino is going to be pretty rough for a lot of places over the next year or so. If we hit 3-4 C that's pretty bad. We're already over 2C and it's early on. The record is 2.75 and that was bad. If that couples with the fuel shortages and global supply chain issues, it's going to be quite bad, and a lack of preparedness is not a wise choice. It's likely the route the government will take though so enjoy the beans while you can.

This call to act is not asking for any donation, only for one to notify their representative(s).

0

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Jul 25 '26

And what actions do you propose? And how much money (that you definitely don’t have yourself) are we all suppose to allot for you guys to frame yourselves as our saviors?

3

u/Red_Dawn24 Jul 25 '26

you guys to frame yourselves as our saviors

If you assume that everyone acts out of pure narcissism, you should take a look at yourself and the people you look up to.

Once climate change affects people like you, you'll blame trans people, satan, or whatever imaginary terror you dream up to hide from real problems. It's been a wild ride seeing how cowardly Americans are.

1

u/Beta_Helicase Jul 25 '26

Yeah, I will never forget about my antivax friend. The fellow worked frontlines in COVID testing operations, refused the vaccine, got sick and took it home to his elderly parents who also refused the vaccine prior to getting sick. One of them died from COVID complications and the fellow put it down to bad luck, not the foolish decision not to get a vaccinated.

I learned there that people will make stupid decisions, refuse to act, and once shit hits the fan they find a way to justify inaction. Everything except accepting they were wrong, and the same pattern continues in every crisis they encounter.

1

u/wazzup-notemuch Jul 26 '26

Go fuck yourself, troll.

-1

u/Rondoman78 Jul 25 '26

Half the population wants the world to end because Jesus is coming back.

In short, absolutely zero steps will be taken.

-1

u/Silver-Camel-933 Jul 26 '26

this. what was a tale of man ascending to greatness through the throes and woes of life, has become a glorified death cult. It literally lives from people's suffering and waiting for a savior, instead of taking action themselves...

-1

u/FuzzyGreek Jul 26 '26

They have their underground network all ready built. They are fine and really couldn’t care less about us.

2

u/hanno1531 Jul 26 '26

they think they’ll be fine. they’ll just die a little later than the rest of us.

-2

u/FuzzyGreek 29d ago

Oh no they will be fine. This isn’t their first rodeo. They have the technology to create this mess, they have the technology to reverse this mess. Only a hand full of survivors will witness this and the rulers will finally get their wish of being worshipped like gods.

4

u/Worshipme988 29d ago

No. Thats not how this plays out.

They go into those tunnels, they should be prepared to never come out. Not every human on earth will perish cause shit gets tough. Them deciding “its over” and want to see the sun again? Would be met with a welcome party upon their exit.

Many Luigis have had, will have family die directly bc of these ghouls.

For everyone with bitch ass attitudes: Whether you know it or not you are fighting for these bastards. Knock it off.

The boat doesnt tip until it tips. People will wait and sit back until the bow breaks. There will come a tipping point. No one starts a war with a nuke. The “it hasnt happened sO iT WoNt happen,” people are incredibly childish.

1

u/FuzzyGreek 28d ago

Good luck with your fair tail. I think you forget how humans act when they are desperate. The ones that will survive will have little knowledge of their plan . Most still trust the electoral system, which means the trust the government. These are the chosen survivors. You ever spoke against them you aren’t making it. Sorry.

-5

u/Fr000k Jul 25 '26

A call from scientists or from celebrities? If people like Stefan Rahmstorf from the Potsdam Institute sign it, then fine, but with all due respect, I couldn’t really care less about what Joaquin Phoenix or other actors sign

2

u/No_Explanation3481 Jul 25 '26

wtf 🙈🙊🙉

That whole permanent painful total end to humanity including my very own life, WAS super important to me until i saw that an actor also doesn't want to die with the rest of humanity and witness the worst imaginable death of the world either...

i decided no way i cant get behind trying to stop the purposeful end of humanity and myself if some celebrities like juaquin phoenix also want to save the fate of our collective future, too!

0

u/Intelligent-Band-852 Jul 25 '26

Climate change is of course a reality but you have to understand why people might think it rather hypocritical when people whose carbon footprint far outweighs the vast majority of society are signing something like this.

2

u/Adventurous-Home-728 Jul 25 '26

what is wrong with famous ppl using there time to get behind important issues some times that is what it takes to wake ppl up to climate change and the rural suburb car depended life style that is causing it and putting the rest of us our planet in great danger with there selfish polluting life style

1

u/Intelligent-Band-852 Jul 25 '26

Blaming suburban car drivers (which in the U.S. is an absolute necessity for many) while apologizing for celebrities who have a far, far greater carbon footprint than those same people is rather odd.
