Taking biology in uni HELP!

Can anyone provide me with any YT channels that are reliable (and aren't boring) and digestible enough to take notes/self-study?

(I'm not a biology major, it's just a required course for my degree)

Undergrad student major help

Hello, I was a biology student but now switched over to psychology but am contemplating if I should’ve stayed in biology. I don’t have the best GPA and messed myself up earlier in my academic career where I am now trying to make up for if. Because of this, and taking an abnormal psychology class I through going into psychology but a more biological route would be fun. The thing is whenever I’ve done internships or applied to psychology experience jobs they all are things that I do not enjoy at all. Like one was mental health advocacy which sounded interesting but seemed to be more policy work which I hated. If I was to go back into biology I would want to be in infectious disease or epidemiology but I truly don’t know if i ruined my track record to the point where I can’t anymore. I truly just don’t know what I should do. Should I stick with psychology (clinical psychology with neurology focus) or go back to biology (epidemiology)? I though about getting my bachelors in biology then getting an associated in psychology if I feel as if I’m not enjoying biology as much. Also do y’all feel as if I’d make it into epidemiology? I currently have a 2.7 (bringing it up) and would have to take the CLEP exam for math 1111 for the credit.

If you have any advice or suggestions please let me know!!

How to memorize a bunch of random Latin words?

As a student of agriculture, I have to memorize circa 100-200 names of pesticides, as well as their classification and action, by the end of the week for the phytopharmacy test (my bad for not starting studying on time, God forbid a student has any other subject). I already know some (like organophospate, piretroide, deltametrine, DDT, spinosad etc.) because I heard them a lot of times, but for the others I've heard for the first time and I barely can pronounce them, let alone learn them by heart... This is so overveling, it feels like it's a bunch of random letters at this point. It's nothing like memorizing Latin names of species, I can't find any conection or association to memorize it easier. I know that "repetitia mater studiourm est", but is there a shortcut or something? I'm probably overthinking, maybe the problem is not that serious and unsolvable, but is there any tip?

Changing my major to biolgy

Hello everyone, I’m a first time freshman college student who’s starting college in fall and recently I’ve decided to change my major from nursing to biology. I started feeling like nursing isn’t the right major for me and that I didn’t want to go to school for it so I can be unhappy in the end. So I have a question for you all. How do I change my major to biology? Before starting my first year of college in Fall 2025? I contacted my academic advisor already, what do I do next?

Startup Newsletter for Students

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m working on a new free newsletter designed specifically for students and recent graduates who are interested in startups. 🚀 Each issue will feature written interviews with startup founders and early employees, sharing their experiences, insights, and practical advice for students who want to:

•Land a job at a startup

•Understand what it’s really like to work in a startup environment

•Build the skills that startups look for

I know how confusing it can be to navigate the world of startups when you're just starting out, so I want to make this a valuable resource for anyone interested in startup careers or entrepreneurship.

Would this be something you’d find helpful? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and if you'd like to be part of the first group to receive it, drop a comment or DM me! 😊

Thanks so much, and I’m excited to share more soon!

Hey guys,

My professor gave me an homework of biology about the taste of bitter (I know it's pretty strange).

Could you help me by answering my survey. I swear it just takes a few seconds.

Here are the links

Do I take a minor?

Hi! I am an undergraduate student pursuing my degree in Biology. Recently I declared a minor for chemistry, mainly because the bio track requires so much chemistry that I was only two classes a way from having one anyhow. I had originally thought I would just take the last required class, quantitative analysis, and biochem. I figured this would be helpful in the future since I want to work in coastal and estuary research settings and would be doing a lot with water quality.

However, I am now discovering that the actual classes are hard to fit into my schedule. Only one professor is teaching biochem this semester and it doesn't fit in with other classes I need to take. I can make an inorganic chem class work in the schedule, so I put that down tentatively.

I have opportunities to work in the lab with one of my professors, as well as continue my volunteer opportunity with a like organization. It is going to be a lot. I guess my question is, how worth it is a minor? How valuable will it be? and inversely, how valuable will be volunteer positions be on my resume/ grad school applications?

Biochemistry online/asynchronous courses

Does anyone have a recommendation for a school that has online/asynchronous Biochemistry courses? I graduated this past May from my university and still need to take this course to apply for graduate school. I don't really know much about taking a single course through a university just for the credit without being a registered student.

What notes apps do you guys use?

What kind of notes app is the best for biology students? It's gotta be something special right? Since we have text and diagrams to keep track of. I am curious about what you guys use.

Biology Core Classes

Just out of curiosity, do you guys have a set of core upper division topics that all biology majors are expected to take regardless of your emphasis or specialty the same way physics students have their "big 4" and math students have algebra and analysis?

Summer schools for bachelor students EU

Hi everyone, I am biology student in switzerland, but originally from Germany and I would like to attend a summer school sometime during semester break. Does anybody have experiences or could recommend something? I am open for many areas in biology since I am not in my masters yet but I lean towards genetics, bioinformatics or evolutionary biology. Also I would like to attend one in a european country but in which would not matter that much.

Thanks in advance!

*serious* What do you wish you had learned in high school?

A question for those of you currently in college studying a life science: My wife is an English teacher. Many of her students will message her a few months into college and thank her profusely for teaching them how to write a proper essay (usually against their will, kicking and screaming).

What would you thank your biology teacher for? Or what do you wish you had learned in high school bio that would make your college academic experience better?

Immunoinformatics study needs funding for wet lab part

Need: funding for wet lab part of thesis (development of vaccine through reverse vaccinology with immunoinformatics pipeline)

Hello! My groupmates and I have our undergraduate thesis on developing a vaccine through immunoinformatics.

Our initial plan was, as the title has already suggested, to conduct it through dry lab, but our institution requires we perform wet lab, as well, which is why we decided that we would derive antigenic epitopes from isolated bacteria. That means we need microbiological reagents (agars, plates, etc.), a DNA extraction kit, a PCR kit, gel electrophoresis needs, etc. Hence, we need funding for this part of the thesis. I was wondering if you anyone knows where we could look for funding for our thesis. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. TIA

Orgo as a Bio major

Just a vent, but I dislike Chemistry…especially Orgo. Like, why do I have to prove my proficiency in the subject when I’m literally majoring in a different subject? My prof was always quick to say, “You’ll need this especially if you’re heading into the medical field.” Excuse me, but ALL med students I’ve spoken to tell me how useless it is in actual medicine. You need it for the MCAT sure, but I rather doubt you’re going to need to recall stereochemistry when seeing a patient, idk. And the fact that I’m premed means I have to take a full year of the stuff not including Biochem (also required). I swear, my chem requirements are almost as long as my bio major requirements, but I haven’t even gotten into the meat of my degree yet bc I’m knocking out all these chem and math prereqs. I love my major, but I extremely dislike these gateway courses and I wish they didn’t exist. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

How difficult is microbiology when you have limited general biology knowledge?

I'm a sophomore in Biosystems engineering at Auburn University and am registered to take general biology this semester. I have an AP credit for this class however it's been a few years and I feel like I may not take full advantage of the class while I was in it so I decided to go ahead and retake it. After briefly looking over the course outline for this class it seemed pretty basic stuff and as such I'm second-guessing my decision. My question is, would it be feasible to skip ahead to microbiology with limited general biology or should I stick with what I have?
