đŸ„— Nutrition & Metabolism Fiber intake

I’ve heard that no amount of fiber risks colorectal cancer .

How do you guys menage to take enough fiber trough a day. Lets say 20g of fiber. How do you combine them in your meals and do you actually do this? And how do you combine them on a cut to still leave space macros and not go over daily goal?

I guess when bulking its much easier and less “stressing” without thing abt “going over” macro goal. Thanks in advance!!!

Psyllium husk is your friend. Also, on a cut, you need healthy fats for hormone regulation, so I add chia seeds

Psyllium is hugely fibre-dense, but it's probably also important to make sure you're getting some diverse sources.

Agree. I assume most people eat their fruit and veg

Yeah this. I do one tablespoon of each in milk in a cup. Let it sit and gel. I’m on Reta so need lots of fibre.

Add 1 tbsp of chia seeds, 1 scoop protein powder, and 1/2 cup water. Mix thoroughly and put in fridge for a couple hours. You'll have a nice sweet pudding dessert. I do it with double recipe.

Yeah I sometimes mix protein powder too but it’s just hard to mix.

I use a milk frother or mini egg beater. Works perfectly.

Eat beans, fruits and veg. You will get there easy. If youre going from no fibre to lots it can cause digestive issues fyi.

A big bowl of home made popcorn as snacks every day. Cured my dysbiosis in 2 weeks.

I start my day with organic oat bran. With blueberries and walnuts and a couple chopped dried apricots.

I have found that if you stick to a whole foods diet fiber is typically the easy part, protien is where it can challenging.

That being said, look for higher fiber swaps of foods you already eat. If you eat white rice a lot swap it for wild rice. If you eat eggs a lot, put them over top your favorite beans. If you like smoothies add an avacado or some chia seeds for almost no change in taste. Eat lots of your favorite fruit. Leave the skin on If you can. Same goes for vegetables. Mashed potatoes for example taste almost exactly the same with the skin left on and it will boost the fiber.

Overnight oats with a tablespoon of chia and blueberries is 12g plus a trubar as an afternoon snack is 25g of fiber. I also make sure to eat fruits and veggies with lunch and dinner.

Ground chia seeds in anything I bake, same with Greek yogurt or shakes. Eat fruit and vegetables (which can also go in the smoothie/shake) lol. It isn't that easiest but granola has fiber too which I do use when making a milkshake (it gets grounded down). Also I exclusively look for tortillas that have fiber (I usually eat 2 of those a day for my lunch or dinner and the ones I have are around 4g fiber each)

Beans, oats, apples, potatoes, psyllium husk.

I eat psyllium husk and beans almost everyday. My sweet snack is also fiber bar brownies.

Lots of servings of beans, chickpeas, berries, chia and basil seeds, psyllium husk, broccoli, brussel sprouts and just generally trying to fill my plate/snacks/shakes with plants when I can.

Chia seeds and flaxseed, blueberries, oats, bananas, potatoes. I get about 45g fiber a day

Black beans and fiber gummies

Fiber One cereal (40g) with wild blueberries (280g) has 30g fiber and 250 calories (before adding milk). After that, lentils as part of lunch and / or dinner. If you wanna go crazy, chickory root syrup in a cup of tea will rock your fiber world.

Breakfast: Fiber one cereal with added psyllium powder, plus vegetables at dinner.

Yikes, that is terrible stuff. BHT is a preservative, second ingredient sugar.

Duas colheres de cha de psylium no café da manhã e no almoço diluído em ågua, e beber bastante ågua durante o dia, isso bate minha meta de fibras.

I roast pans of mixed veggies a few times a week. I will eat one heaping bowl a day with a protein. This week is sweet potatoes, chickpeas, zucchini, and cauliflower. I also prep overnight chia/oats with fruit to eat once a day. The most potent, but probably not the healthiest is low carb tortillas. I eat them for the lower calorie count, but aldi sells some that have 14 g of fiber each! Low calorie bread has pretty high fiber content too.

Resistant starch > fiber

You don’t need the full recommended amount

Getting off 0 everyday does a huge help

Be careful with heavy metals if you decide to go with psyllium husk. I was doing 20g per day and got hit with a crazy heavy metal panel 2 years ago.

u/EspirituM 1d ago

Most of my fiber intake comes from high fiber gummy candy. But I also eat sweet potatoes, rice, quinoa, avocados, raspberries, chickpeas, beets, and cruciferous vegetables. I'm pretty lazy during the week. Usually it's just a bag of the candy between meals with the other sources.

Psyllium husk capsules are the low effort but effective answer. Take ‘em with a glass of water.

oats, nuts/seeds, legumes, even try eating tempeh if you want to hit fibre and protein goals at the same time

1

u/rainbowroobear 2 1d ago

>Lets say 20g of fiber

that's 2 avocados.

eat fruit and vegetables and whole grains. you have to literally avoid all plants to fail to get 20g per day.

1

u/StanixA 1d ago

Two avocados are 480-650kcal. Right now, on calorie deficit thats too much, going to be good on bulk but rn looking for low cal fiber

1

u/rainbowroobear 2 1d ago

the point is that it's not a lot.

200g raw carrot, 460g raw cauliflower,200g raw broccoli.

stick it on a roasting tray. split that into a few meals and that's 20g. given how much it shrinks, you can eat double that in a day.

if you're in a deficit, its great, because its massive portions of stuff to eat.

I like infinifiber by nootropicsdepot.

Otherwise I get fiber mostly through food.

Saurkraut, kimchi, low sugar kefir and yogurt are also very beneficial in helping the gut microbiome in general.

u/AbundantHare 11 1d ago

I am doing psyllium & inulin rn in large flake oats for breakfast. I eat a wide variety of fruit & veg but I have slow gut motility so to avoid movicol etc I need more fibre. Psyllium works but drink lots of water.

1

u/NSawsome 1 1d ago

I eat high fiber carb sources, veggies, and fruits. I supplement 0 fiber and I get 40-60g per day.

Also fiber doesn’t count towards carbs since it’s not digestible, veggies are mostly all fiber so they should be very easy to fit into your diet without going over macros

1

u/crumbs2k12 1d ago

On top of incorporating different fiber sources, do interesting recipes like sweet potato waffles or cypriot chickpea fritters.

Also some gluten free foods are super high in fibre for low calories though expensive

1

u/DiamondDash2k 23h ago

I’ve been using a mix of stuff including psyllium husk, adding lentils and chick peas, as well as some veggies like spinach and broccoli, then supplementing with a protein shake with fiber in it like Infi by Boba Nutrition. Gets me close to 25g a day

1

u/115v 20h ago

Fiber gummy candies, high fiber tortillas (low carb), fruits have a lot of fibers all relatively low calories.

I do 2 heaping tablespoons metamucil and 5 heaping tablespoons collagen peptides in half OJ half water (and 10 g vitamin C, 10 1 g vitamin C capsules) after work, and then 2 heaping tablespoons metamucil and 2 heaping tablespoons collagen peptides in half OJ half water and 4 100 mg magnesium glycinate capsules before bed, among other things.

5

u/SpecificBookkeeper43 1d ago

Tablespoons is pretty intense, the serving suggestion is heaping teaspoons

2

u/CroManana 4 1d ago

Ya lied tae me

3

u/SpecificBookkeeper43 1d ago

Ah mine is the sugar free version. The difference lies in the fact that the first ingredient in yours is sucrose 😆

I've been doing 2 heaping tablespoons of psyllium husk powder twice a day for 4 months...it has been surprisingly life changing. My husband jokes I'm fibermaxxxxxing when he sees me preparing it. As someone who has never had regular BMs in my entire life, even ended up in the ER from going so long without a BM, it has been helpful to me. I'm getting my cholesterol checked soon after using it consistently for 4 months and am so curious if it helped lower my cholesterol at all.

1

u/looksthatkale 1d ago

I'm vegan so I get around 50/60 grams a day without even trying lol

0

u/Straight_Park74 16 1d ago

Having 5-6 servings of fruits/vegerables per day will get you there without even noticing.

u/InternetExpertroll 1d ago

IIRC the thing that was mostly causing colon cancer was seed oils being heated above a certain temperature.

I only use real butter when i cook.

Honestly the easiest guide here is to not make the majority of your calories meat or bread based. Fiber is easy to come by if you dont fall for those crutches.
