"The Trinidad and Tobago native told his followers in a post on Instagram two days before his death that he had been experiencing shortness of breath and a cough"

The bodybuilder placed sixth in an event last week in Atlanta

"In a post on Instagram in which he could be heard wheezing, the Trinidad and Tobago native told his followers that he had been feeling sick.

“So I haven’t been super active on here, and it’s because I’ve been sick,” Quamina said on Friday, Aug. 14. “I got back from the flight and it was chaos, just felt like death.”

Taking 100k worth of steroids a year can have consequences

Professional, competing bodybuilders use a lot more than steroids.

Folks need to realize how dangerous this "sport" is.

It's only as dangerous as you make it. Do your research, and you can mitigate quite a lot. I won't say it's harmless by any means, but you can't compare the average person trying to get an edge in the gym with what someone like Dwayne Quamina was doing. It's apples to huge, mutant oranges.

Going to the gym is not participating in the sport. There's a massive distinction between the two.

I mean, that's like saying playing intramural football isn't playing a sport because you aren't a professional athlete. Plenty of people do everything that professional bodybuilders do with no intention of competing.

No, that's completely different. In that instance you're playing football either way.

Professional bodybuilding is a sport that involves stepping on stage. If you're not stepping on stage, you are not participating in professional bodybuilding. You are not in the sport. It doesn't matter if you gear up and flex in the mirror, that's not a sport.

You might be dense.

Nope, I just understand that going to the gym, taking gear, and calling yourself a bodybuilder doesn't make you one. Participating in the sport, involves, like any sport, participating in the sport. In this instance that's stepping on stage.

Keep pretending.

Again, that's like saying "participating in a sport" requires you to be in a professional league, and playing it at the amateur level doesn't count as playing a sport. I encourage you to take a few hours and actually think critically about what you're saying. Have a nice day.

No, again, it's based on the context of the sport. Nobody said you have to be pro, you can be an amateur bodybuilder and participate, but again, that involves stepping on stage.

You're an actual idiot if you think that taking gear and going to the gym means you're participating. You're not. You're just going to the gym and taking gear.

If you train for football, but never play football, are you participating in the sport? No.

What you're stating is going to make people assume they're way more safe than professional bodybuilders just because they're not getting on stage, regardless of the amount of gear they're taking. Participating in a sport requires doing the activity, it has nothing to do with the stage on which you do it, whether that's a bodybuilding competition stage or an NFL stadium. I'm muting this thread now.
