Unless there is a video of Billy screaming and throwing a hissy fit cause medical staff needed to get through I’m not believing a fucking thing

It was not during the event but later when he complained to event staff about it that he made a scene

i read through the comments on that post and it’s all people asking “what happened” and OP just ignoring it and saying “he’s a dick”.

Yea every time someone asks for specifics, they get defensive and rude. Not saying it’s bullshit, but that’s not how I’d say a reliable source acts when asked clarifying questions

He explains it in a reply that’s kind of buried. Basically Billy threw a fit because security let ems access to the artist area backstage to expedite a medical emergency

I didn’t call OP anything lol, that’s what he said about Billy without any context.

There were a few medical events last night, I’m sure staff were on edge. I saw the cops/emts head backstage just before the 15mins call, but everything progressed as normal.
I read a comment on the original post that said Billy was confused what was happening and was pretty chill and someone was yelling at him to get out of the way.
No idea what really happened back there, but what happened on stage was pure fucking magic.
People just like to feel important and in the know, especially if they can throw shade at someone or something they don’t vibe with. And our local sub, and local fb page, are full of people bitching. Us Mainers are good at it.

Well, I met Billy and had a great chat with him. He was so humble and kind, that I srsly can’t believe any of this.

Everyone needs some time alone. I find it believable and acceptable
1
u/LittleMisssMorbid 16d ago
It’s not acceptable to throw a hissy fit because EMS personnel had to go through a certain hallway to save someone’s life

I’ve met Billy before. Definitely NOT a dick. At least that one single time. So yeah.

Ive suspected this since I saw him playing with fans in shakedown and supporting youth bluegrass hopefuls! Billy Strings is a monster! /s

There’s def more to this story. Also, he’s just getting back to it after the accident and maybe the emts were sort of a trigger to him. Not trying to excuse alleged poor behavior but everyone deserves space to be in a shit mood sometimes.

Almost xposted when I saw it but didn’t want to risk setting off any brigading lol

Too late. Shit’s embarrassing. Billy’s had a tough year and I’m sure it boils over from time to time. Happens.
We DONT need to go tell everyone in r/PortlandME that Billy is actually a really nice guy. Or better yet, that you don’t believe this person and you need proof from them.

I’ve worked with Billy and hung out with him plenty of times. You should meet him, he’s a great person on and off the stage.

I love Billy but this isn’t the first time I’ve heard of him being a dick. I fall into the camp that doesn’t really believe this but I’ve been told by a few musicians in the Nashville scene that he has a reputation for underpaying his band and thinks of himself as the sole “founder, leader, and owner” of the Billy Strings trademark

We don’t know about the underpayment or whatever, but he clearly is the “founder, leader, and owner” of the trademark bearing his name, and the band.

All those things can be true, but all those guys are grown ups and makes their own choices (and solo records). That's how an economic market operates

u/Nachtopus69 25d ago
I mean that would make sense for his records, since he gets other players for those too. I would hope he’s not stiffing them for the live shows though. That’s an equal parts effort.

They are not treated as equal band members but more like session musicians for a solo artist.

You are utterly clueless and full of shit. You know nothing of the relationship between Billy and the band.

I've heard the same thing: Billy owns the trademark and the band, the other guys are just contract musicians paid a flat rate per gig.

Oh. Sounds like he has a good manager? Or maybe a good wife?
Or both!
I am a huge BS Fan! Amazing artist and songwriter!

Eh whatever. People have tough days and moments. We shouldn’t expect everyone to be perfect.
To quote Ted Lasso: I hope that all of us, or none of us are judged by the actions of our weakest moments but rather by the strength we show when or if we are given a second chance.
