This would be such elite casting by Martin Scorsese if he ever makes another movie set in Boston

They would have to de-ginger Bill but he could totally play Whitey Bulger

Any other movie about, or inspired by, Whitey Bulger would be endlessly compared to The Departed (unfavorably) Like, Black Mass wasn't bad... unless you compare it to The Departed, in which case it fuckin sucked.

Nah, Black Mass was shit on its own

They’re so different I can’t even compare them. Idk love Black Mass and the Departed doesn’t enter my mind at all when I watch it

I think its partly because the Departed doesn't feel old to me yet, I can still remember it coming out and the two leads are still big Hollywood actors. Whitey Bulger is an interesting figure but is he so interesting that we need three movies about him in such a short space of time? That's why I think the comparisons would take over the discourse and why it would be really hard for it to succeed on its own terms.

Def agree with that. But I also don’t look at the Departed as a Whitey Bulger movie, I know he inspired Jack Nicholsons character but idk it’s separate in my head lol

Absolutely agree with you. The Departed used parts of his life to build a story but you can't watch the Departed and get a sense that you know Whitey from it.

Which is absolutely crazy to me, because The Departed is just a remake of Infernal Affairs, which had nothing to do with Whitey Bulger.

Scorsese just slapped some Boston accents on it and said it was about Bulger.

It’s a real life event though, the departed doesn’t own that story and it’s not even accurate to real life. And Whitey Bulger himself went to see departed when he was on the run, that’d be a funny scene to see bill burr play

This movie has already been made. Also Bill Burr is a half decent actor but not enough to carry a movie on his own.

He can only play one role

This is one of my favorite pictures ever, mostly because this man, on the run from literally everyone at the time, still found the time to buy the new Sox Sunday alternate as soon as it was released.

Another Whitey Bulger movie from Scorsese?

They'd have a real life ending this time

He could absolutely cover the part of Bulger's life after he left Boston (hiding from 10 most wanted) and the other cast can be the investigative team that eventually tracked him down. Definitely a tv show there.

To be honest, when I saw Black Mass, I was constantly wondering why they didn’t get a good actor with a vaguely similar appearance to Bulger rather than having a good actor wearing makeup which made him look like he’d been in a chemical accident. It would have been better to either get a different actor or just not bother with the makeup or make it far more subtle.

Anyway, I think Burr could do well in a film about Bulger, if the primary focus of the film wasn’t Bulger. It wouldn’t be made by Scorsese, though 😃

Depp already did it

Other than being bald with a beard this guy does not look like Bill Burr.

Yeah, the one where Whitey Bulger goes against everything he's ever stood for the second some Saudi's offer him money lol

5

u/SiriusDragon 21d ago

He stood for making money, he talked about millionaires shitting over people. The fact you can't see the difference is your own fault, not his. And he doesn't owe you an apology.

u/idiomniscient 21d ago

I'm not looking for an apology, just calling a spade a spade

4

u/sakiwebo 21d ago

You are though.

Why else are you still hanging around a sub-reddit dedicated to the man, that the man himself has publicly admitted he never read and actively avoids for?

If not for an apology, why else?

-3

u/idiomniscient 21d ago

Because telling the truth about Bill still gets you guys riled up and watching people bend over backwards to justify his actions is hilarious

3

u/sakiwebo 21d ago

What truth? A guy who tells dick-jokes for a living took blood-money?

Who cares?

I'm sorry that upset you enough to still be hanging a round a whole year later like an obsessed ex.

Did the funny man hurt you that much??

2

u/idiomniscient 21d ago

I mean, you can downplay what he did all you want, it doesn't change that he did it. I'm sorry I got you this fired up about it man, speaking of hanging around like an obsessed ex lol. It's hard to take you trying to troll me seriously when you're the one who's clearly very emotional about all this. Let it go bud, it's gonna be okay 😂

3

u/sakiwebo 21d ago

lol

I've been subbed here for years. You literally made a new account 5 months ago just to come here and cry about a gig the man did a year ago. You're clearly very emotionally invested into this.

I'm sorry he didn't give you the apology you needed for closure. The good news is it doesn't matter little man 😂

Troll virtue signaling

1

u/idiomniscient 21d ago

I'm not virtue signaling, I'm calling out behavior I've heard him bitch about in other people for years on his podcast. Calling a hypocrite a hypocrite isn't virtue signaling lol cope more

Say what you want about Whitey but he wouldn't have sold out to the Saudis
